Most of the messages we get from GSM operators are not directly from them. They are from 3rd party companies. I believe the Network Operators are paid for them. But it can be compared to what they call "commercials" i.e adverts in the middle of a radio or TV programme. You don't stop watching or listening to your favourite programme because of "commercials" though you may grumble. The same applies here. Perhaps, this is contained in the T&C they usual sound aloud. But how many of us have ever taken time out to check their "Terms & Conditions" of service? So, we can only complain but it can never stop. They make money from the ads as TV or Radio Stations do.
