How Do You Greet Someone Happy New Year In Your Language? by yokiti: 1:05am On Dec 31, 2013 |
Its not a new thing that in another 23 hours the year 2013 will go in the ways of its forefathers and never to be experiences again. Hopes and expectations are high for the coming year. Many have compiled their new year resolution while some are still busy with their does and don't of the new year. . Back to the topic, as a south westerner a geopolitical zone in the most populous black nation in the world; the giant of Africa ( not forgeting our present challenges, I strongly believe that Nigeria; My country will surely take her rightful position as the true and worthy giant in the commity of nations if we as citizens perform our patriotic obligations ); we greet " aku ayo odun tuntun yii o, Olorun a je ki odun naa tura o. Odun yabo fun tebi tara wa o" while the new year greeting MIGHT(because its subjective ) be simply expressed in English as :" wishing you a happy and prosperous new year". . May the coming year 2014 be a rewarding and fulfilling one for each and everyone of us in good health and prosperity. . Fellow nairalanders, how is this expressed in your own language? |

TRANSLATION of Happy new Year in various languages of the world. . In less than 13 hours, Nigerians will be in the year 2014 (this differs from one continents to another because of the longitude position of every countries, as for the Australians, by 12noon in Nigeria its almost 12 midnight there: a good knowledge of Geographical time zones will tell us more). For example, the Americans ( state and provinces on Eastern Time Zones) will see the new year as from 6 hours after we might have shouted Euraka to the new year 2014 in Nigeria while the Far east Asia inhabitants will be preparing for the 2nd day of January) . I searched the internet to know how these words of felicitation is being expressed the world over and below are my discoveries: . I hope pyguru will not raise its suspicious head. YORUBA: eku odun / eku odun tun tun / eku iyedun ZERMA: barka'n da djiri tagio ZULU: unyaka omusha omuhle . Seeing all these, you have to bow before the throne of God because for Him to understand all these languages; it shows He is bigger than what will or might even call him. I will have to conclude that; God is indeed the Almighty and Jehovah is His name. . May we all have a rewarding, destiny fulfilling and prosperous year 2014. |
