Osun (N216.7bn) And Ondo ( N162bn) Present 2014 Budgets by geeez: 7:34am On Jan 01, 2014 |
Ondo State Governor Olusegun Mimiko; and his Osun State counterpart, Rauf Aregbesola, on Tuesday presented their states’ 2014 budgets to the respective Houses of Assembly for approval. While Mimiko proposed to spend N162bn, with N92.319bn and 69.681bn naira earmarked for capital and recurrent expenditures respectively, Aregbesola proposed a N216.7bn budget. Presenting the budget estimates, which he said was the fifth in the series of the administration’s Caring Heart budgets, Mimiko said his government had embarked on a number of initiatives in the last five years, some of which he said had earned the state special recognition and accolade. He said some of the initiatives had been delivered while some were still ongoing. In view of the general economic trend in the country, however, the governor said it was the desire of his government to concentrate more effort on revenue generation with a view to completing the on-going projects. A breakdown of the recurrent expenditure component of the Ondo budget shows that Personnel Cost will received N35.371bn; Overheads, N5.184bn; Recurrent Grants to Parastatals and Tertiary Institutions, N7.457bn; Special Programmes , N13.469bn; Consolidated Revenue Fund Charges, N8.030bn; and Grants and Loans, N170mn. The sectoral details of the capital vote shows that Economic receives N37.643bn, Social Services, N21.504bn; Regional, N10.240bn; Law and Justice, N661mn; Administration, N6.621bn; and Debt repayment/servicing, N15.650bn. Reviewing the 2013 fiscal year, Mimiko said that last year’s revenue projections experienced “economic upheavals which adversely affected the revenue inflow.” He said one of such factors was the inability of the state government to access a N23bn Bond. Aregbesola was represented by his Special Adviser on Budget, Mr. Bade Adesina, at the presentation of the appropriation bill. The budget, which he christened “Budget of Growth Enhancement and Development,” is about N18 bn less than what the governor proposed for the 2013 fiscal year. Aregbesola proposed to spend N119, 136,932,600 on capital projects while a total of N97,608,280,660 is expected to be spent on recurrent expenditures. The governor proposed to spend N 17.9bn on over head cost and the consolidated cost was put at N52, 493,953,200 in the appropriation bill. Aregbesola explained that the short fall in the price of crude oil and huge loss of revenue to oil theft were the reasons for the reduction in the amount proposed to spend in 2014 fiscal year, compared to the budget of N234, 269,308,820 for 2013 fiscal year. He promised that his administration would continue to embark on projects, which would make life more comfortable to the people of the state. 1 Like |

Abiolacicero: Ondos budget should surpass Osun now. Osun has an IGR that is almost twice that of Ondo State As a matter of fact after Lagos, Ogun and Rivers, Osun has the fourth highest IGR in the whole of Nigeria However, I believe Ondo has more potentials but we aren't seeing it yet |

This Mimiko is a big thief, how can Osun budget more than Ondo? Ondo is an oil producing state and therefore gets 13% derivation fund while Osun is a glorified village. Mimiko must face EFCC before he absconds to Europe. Can we all now see why APC will continue to win in South-West? A thief and dunce like Mimiko is only fit for Kirikiri Maximum Security Prison. |

Don't you think this Osun State budget is meant for media stunt and there is no way they can realise it. The Governor should have stated the breakdown on how he intends to get the money or where he will source for the deficit. If I buy your argument of Osun State high IGR, can Osun State IGR eclipse that of Ondo State by N54,000,000,000 in 2014. Moreover, knowing fully well that total allocation from the Federation Account accruing to Ondo State will supersede Osun State Allocation + her 2014 IGR. How will our able Governor going to balance the budget? geeez: 2 Likes 1 Share |

Many of you from across the Niger talk like illiterates or mostly half baked graduates. This is a budget presentation for God's sake. All you need to seek for ( which you can easily get online) is the budget performance for the preceding years to know if the state can actually generate what they proposed. I am sure your heart will be broken..lol I dont know y you Ibos get frustrated anytime there is a report of good tidings in the west. Osun state will only post what they can generate. You can all GO AND DIE if it turning your stomach.....bad belle 2 Likes 1 Share |

For those who want to know how Osun state is going to finance her 2014 budget, I suggest you go and find out how the 2013 budget-N18billion higher than what's been proposed for 2014- was financed. You should get your answers by doing just that. |

Osun's budget for 2014 like for most states is lower than it was for 2013 The governor is massively investing in infrastructure which has led to an increased IGR The GDP of the state for 2012 was also the fourth highest in Southern Nigeria after Lagos, Rivers and Oyo From the figures I've seen for 2013, it's even gone higher though Lagos, Rivers, Oyo and Ogun had higher GDPs than Osun for the year just gone by Besides, why is Osun's budget giving these Igbos constipation? 1 Like 1 Share
