Happy New Year Everyone and Happy 100th year of Amalgamation and Disunity in Nigeria.

This year 2014 marks our 100th year as a North/South Amalgamation but 108th that the Amalgamation between Colony of Lagos & Protectorate (West) was merged with Southern Protectorate (East and South).

It is expected that a National Dialogue or a Sovereign National Conference will hold this year to decide a new structure along forming a better unity. Going also by recent release from INEC on 2015 elections we have just about a year left to exercise our voting rights for the democratic process. So there are many milestones and markers to live through between today and possibly the next 14 months or so and each and everyone of them touch directly with that beginning back in late 1800s and early 1900s. Without that history our experience today will be totally different.

The history of colonial administration in Nigeria talked a lot about the events and the dates but not much is known about the characters, educational background and thought pattern and psychological mindset of the people who put this structure together. It cannot be denied that in a divorced separation, the individual ethnic group or people will do better in a self determining existence than in an amalgamated marriage in which the frustration, mistrust, hatred, suspicion is mutual and highly volatile and caustic.

To cut the story short, Im bringing you a book to read and in this book you will find revelations that the officers that amalgamated the different peoples into Nigeria were not at all in concensus and did not fully understand how the system would work or what behaviors to prepare for. In other words, they were not State planners and this amalgamation was a spontaneous experimentation with a life span at worst, a year, and at best, 100yrs; which comes to full term today.
