Rattled by the revealing publications in some national and local media, linking the Akwa Ibom state governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio with the plot to remove the PDP national chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, and the resultant suspicion and bad blood generated against the governor in the presidency, the state chapter of the party is currently battling to save the governor's neck.

The embattled governor deployed all the state media apparatus to fight the story, which tried to tie the governor with the plot to remove Tukur and the disloyalty implication of the plot. It was a worried Akpabio, Weekend Insight learnt that called a meeting of his inner cabinet to see how best they can battle the allegation, knowing the political implication of the it. Our source hinted that those consulted decided that the best approach was to use the PDP machinery.


The state party chairman was immediately asked to issue a press statement denying that the state caucus meeting in which Uche Secondus was in attendance had nothing to do with the plot to remove Tukur.

The presence of Secundus had set tongues wagging as he was seen as a part of the plot to remove the national chairman, after which he was supposed to take over as the national deputy chairman, pending a national convention, which the forces against Tukur had planned never to take place.
