so you multiply $9.33 by 3 and you get $28 plus the $2 pammed by the boy you get $30 meaning no money is lost.

initially the three men each paid 10 dollars= 30dollars
for it to be $25, it must be = $8.33,  each
10-8.33, =$1.66,
on refunding $1, it means that they have paid 9.33 instead of 8.33. therefore 3(9.33)=27.999,  which is approximately $28. now adding the balance of $2 with the boy means $30.
