WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

ASSISTANT EDITORS (Minimum of 4 years Experience)
Job summary: Assists the editorial team in all phases of the magazine publication process by performing the following duties;
o Assisting in the development of the Bi-monthly editorial lineup
o Verifying facts, dates and statistics
o Reading copy to detect errors in spelling, punctuation and syntax.
o Rewriting or modifying copy to clarify meaning and to conform to publication’s style and editorial policy.
o Proof-reading the work of columnists as required to provide the publication style and editorial policy
o Writing or rewriting headlines and captions according to publication requirements.
o Selecting photo for clarity and style.
o Routinely corresponding with columnists and photographers regarding changes made to copy.
o Marking copy for typesetter, using standardized code to indicate how type should be set.
o Initiating or replying to correspondence regarding material published or being considered for publication.

STAFF WRITERS/ RESEARCHERS (Minimum of 2 years Experience)
o Job summary: Writes original prose material for publication by performing the following duties;
o Writing subject matter based on personal interest or receives specific assignment from the Editor.
o Conducting research and making notes to retain ideas, develop factual information and obtain authentic detail.
o Organizing material and planning arrangement and outline.
o Developing factors such as theme, plot, order, characterization and storyline.
o Writing draft of copy.
o Occasionally, training new staff or freelance writers
o Actively contributing to team meetings regarding new projects, suggesting ideas and brainstorming
o Assisting the Editorial team to create and update the content strategy as required.
o Contributing to additional projects within deadlines as required to enhance the magazine.
o Reviewing, revising, correcting and submitting copy for editing and publication.


Essential skills, experience and abilities
o Formal qualification in Writing, Journalism or English
o Ability to write reviews and features in a descriptive but concise style.
o Experience in a news or publication environment
o Keen eye for detail
o Excellent written English
o Excellent computer skills
o Willingness to travel if required
o Proven Copy-editing Experience FOR ASSISTANT EDITOR
