Why would Jesus have implored his Father (or  himself) not to lead people into temptation?

After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in Heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.  (Matthew 6:9–13)

Was it because god is wont to lead people into temptation and by make this prayer it is hoped that this would stave of god's temptation?

Deut 4: 34;

Or hath God assayed to go and take him a nation from the midst of another nation, by temptations, by signs, and by wonders, and by war, and by a mighty hand, and by a stretched out arm, and by great terrors, according to all that the LORD your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes?

Is god involved in the business to tempting people?  Job, Abraham etc come to mind.

There is a difference between being tempted and falling for temptation.

Think about this:

And lead us not into (falling for) temptation, but deliver us from evil

And lead us not into (being killed in) war , but deliver us from death

See?

The sense behind the temptation of Job for example is a test or a trial. God wanted to see whether Job really loved Him. In fact, it was the devil who asked God to tempt Job.
JOb 1- Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought?

10Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land.

11But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face.
(the test)
12And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand.

The words we use bear contextual meanings. People often fall into the mistake of assuming what the Bible never teaches - for the basic reason that they do not and have not carefully studied what they enquire about.

Such is the case with the word "temptation". It does not bear a linear meaning but has varied applications in context where they are used.

Deuteronomy 4:34 - "Or hath God assayed to go and take him a nation from the midst of another nation, by temptations, by signs, and by wonders, and by war, and by a mighty hand, and by a stretched out arm, and by great terrors, according to all that the LORD your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes?"

The word "temptation" in that verse does not bear the idea of seduction to sin, evil or wrong doing. This is clear when that verse is compared with other verses where the thought is in connection to difficulties of a very tough situation. Deauteronomy 7:19 reiterates this, and it is the word that word that describes difficult trials in life's experiences.

Matthew 6:13 - "And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen."

Here the thought is about being seduced to evil or wrong doing. God does not desire that His people take seduction to wrong doing lightly - others actually delight in such a lifestyle, and often it is the case that people who profess godliness in their lives may be led to easily assume that there's nothing wrong with allowing oneself to be seduced into sin.
