I would like to get an idea of where everybody gets their domain name from. I personally use netfirms but i always check name availability with go daddy.

Godaddy is so much better.

Never ever in your lifetime any should use godaddy. They suck big time i have used them and they really suck. most of the products or services that you will readiy get for free along with subscription to services with other webhosting companies, godaddy charges extra they suck dont use they. youve being warned.

have you tried ">www.naijahost.com those guys are good too! but i get my domain names from many places, www.guardserver.net, www.brinkster.com, www.ipowerweb.com these are the ones i've used so far! but i think i would just stil with www.guardserver.net cos my friend owns it and its jsut $9.20 and i can register a domain with a host without paying cash right away! lol!

godaddy is rubbish. @ retro, if you want anyone in nigeria to be able to view ur site, then never think of using godaddy.
i used it for three months and i was told that they block all nigerian Server request coz of fraud.

We have many local hosts offering Domain name registration. Try www.weblagos.com. I use them for all my registrations and hosting. They are very good!

Godaddy has nothing to do with whether you are able to view your site if it is hosted in Nigeria. They are a good Company and offer very cheap domain names. You can get a .com domain for US$6.99 per year!

Network Solutions or Register.com are a bunch of thieves and charge up to $36 per year for a .com domain!

I have checked with both and it is absolute nonsense that people state that Nigerian servers are being blocked!

Once you domain name is registered and the DNS has propagated, then you will be able to view your site wherever it may be hosted on the planet.

GoDaddy is a good domain registrar and is currently the number one domain Company in the World!


I will let you into a secret. Get a free domain name at http://www.dot.tk/en/index.html. I use a few of these and they are great. You can use them with free hosting providers as well. You will also be helping the people of the island of Tokelau in the South Pacific!

Have you used godaddy previously? those who have know what they are talking about. well the cheap price for the domain is mainly to entice you to use their hosting service which sucks like crap. I hope you know the difference between domain registration/hosting. registration is easy anyone can do it. our grudge against godaddy is in respect to their hosting service. their service suck,

GoDaddy are a cheap and fast domain registrar. Their domain registration services are first class. They also register more domains than any other company in the World. In fact 100% more than their nearest competitor!

When was registering a domain enough to start a website? Domain registration and hosting are totally two seperate issues and services!

If you only want a domain for a year then their prices are cheap!

GoDaddy is still the number one domain registrar in the World and that is not by chance!

Domain names can be gotten from any domain registration company irrespective of their hosting reliability.

From stats verifiable online, if GoDaddy registers more domain name than any other DNR then one cannot take it away from them.

I still believe GoDaddy offers cheap domain names just as Hostway (which I use for all domain name registrations anyway).

I learnt about GoDaddy's pettiness late last year. About thier blocking Nigerians. Thats their cup of tea. Other smarter companies are always finding ways of doing business with Nigeria, Africa's biggest population.

I wonder why people still go ahead looking for host outside nigeria when there are cheaper domain name registeration with loads of freebies more visit 9ja-hosted.com and host your domain name for N2000 for two years. Also you will get a free webhost of 300mb with 7 mysql database and 6gb b/dw. Its an unbeatable offer.

another thing many people don't know/should start differentiating is that many a times when you register a domain name with a naija company it's usually a third party thing. you don't have full control of the name. simply get a master-card/visa-card, do it yourself and have full control. someone recommended netfirms.com , I'm about switching to them
