Lagos, Nigeria, a place the imagination fears to dream of. Take Texas at rush hour the day before thanksgiving, then take away all traffic signals and stops, take away all the money and government which keeps the city infrastructure going (roads, sanitation, sewars, police, water, etc, ) then drop a huge bomb on everything, add black-thick air from the burning trash and exaust, disease, ritual killings, chaos, and crazy people with guns, large iron pipes and tire spikes stopping whomeever they want whenever they want on the road. That is Lagos, Nigeria in a nut shell, and to think, so much of the world's oil, the infrastructure of our industrialized societies rely on, comes from one of the most crazy places in the world, this place makes the visions of hell look like apple pie cooling on a windowsill in summer.

Life in africa is very intense. Every moment, every situation brings about another question in the mind. Nothing is as it seems, nothing works as it should, and nothing happens when its suppose to. But the people (for the most part) are beautiful, generous and rooted. Its a place where man still hasnt put his dominion over the earth, where culture still places a large role in the lives and ways of people. Many people see africa as poor and struggling, which is true. But if yuo ask me, the people of africa are some of the richest people i have ever met. There is an understanding for the importance of the earth, and a knowledge of the skills and strategies necessary to survive. Cultural traditions are not lost and still are seen very evident in everyday life. These are the people, this is the lifestyle which will continue, Africa will continue on, and we will watch, as babylon begins to fall, the mistakes we have made in our industrialized societies and the price the whole world will pay because of it all. When you erase culture from history, when you forget about human place amongst the living creatures of the earth, when the human race tries to rule its dominion over nature, and a society tries to rule their dominion over the world, there will be consequences, and we will all live to experience them.

A trip to Africa is intense. You expose yourself like my dad to situations, experiences, and visions you may never have dreamed of and you may never want to see again, but you also expose yourself to the beauty, hope and stuggle of life on this planet. But this is life, experiencing the global community, trying to learn what you can, and give back what you are able, its a privilage which is very rare.
