Please guys help me out. I was offerred admission for my postgraduate study (M.SC) and when i presented the issue to the directors of the company where i works. The Technical director told me that, how am i sure that after this study the company will be able to keep me since my profile would have gone higher, and also the Managing director who seldom breeze into the country threatened with brimstone and fire ''that it is better i forget about the master study or i resign''. They made carricature of Master programmes in Nigerian universities (maybe because majority of them don't have the master qualifications). I saw that they are intimidated because they believe that after the programme i will go for another company that pay higher than they peanut they give. I have to abandon the programme inspite of the money i had already paid because of the intensity of the thread and now another admission has come and my technical director has told me that ''i shouldn't mousel the horse that threaded the vine''. Please help me i am in a state of dilemma now. |

CONGRATULATIONS. THERE ARE SOME CHANCES YOU HAVE TO TAKE IN LIFE AND THIS IS ONE. GO FOR YOUR MASTERS. YOU ARE NOT ONLY ADDING SOMETHING OF VALUE TO YOUR C.V., BUT ALSO IMPROVING YOURSELF. IT WILL PROBABLY BE THESE SAME PEOPLE WHO WILL MAKE YOU REDUNDANT FOR NOT HAVING UPGRADED YOUR QUALIFICATIONS? AND AGAIN, IT MIGHT SIMPLY BE A CASE OF "BAD BELE". GOOD LUCK. |

Dearest jeebeewell, take tis piece of advise from some1 whose being there & is still there. Take your masters programme. Its one of the most important steps in your life. Don't let your office pple knw abt ur plans. Jst apply 4 a part time programme instead if u can. Presently, i'm taking an Msc programme as well, taking a professional exam for accounting qualification, & working in a firm that does not recognise a masters which means that afta my programme, i don't get any form of promotion. But in the nearest future, wen i'm thru wit my masters & professional qualification, i'ld b more than relevant in the market. Please don't throw away this opportunity. The way i understand ur post, this seems like the 2nd time an opportunity for a masters is coming ur way. Please don't let cowards in ur office who seems afraid of what u'ld become in future 2 intimidate u into quitting or rejecting God's favour in your life. I'm a lady & i'm not the only person working, schooling & studing all at once. When i see others like me who seems to be threading this same path, it gives me the courage to go ahead. Don't hinder your own growth & prosperity. I knw a million & one pple who wld give anything to either get a job now or be given an opportunity to start a masters. PLSSSSSSSS don't throw away this opportunity. Or u'ld be the only person to regret this move. Take your masters along with d job or without the job. It'ld even give you an opportunity to meet pple, make connections & get a far better job. All the best in your decision taking process. |

Thanks joichi, I never knew there are people of this sort here, you guys make me great and optimistic. Although i would have been completing the previous one by now, nevertheless i am not rregreting since the second opportunity has come. Any objection i drop their work and face my studies. |

jeebeewell:Thats the spirit Jeebeewell. There is nothing new or strange under the sun. Jst knw dat whatever it is u r going thru right now, some other person has gone thru & survived, is going thru & surviving or refused to go thru & failed or is regretting. I'm not saving u should drop ur job (except its a full time course). I'm saying u should consider taking the programme as a part time course, do not let ur boss & mgt be aware, & study really hard. Jst be determined. Moreover, except the job is paying u really well & u need the money to support urself & ur family, then don't waste the opportunity. If ur take home is within 70,000 per mth & below, i'ld suggest u drop the job lik hot oil. U r worth more than that with a degree & far more with a higher degree, especially if u knw u can afford to pay the fees & support urself thru d programme without the job. A bank wld take u without a second thought if u have a higher degree. Take this from me. |

I had my first degree in chemical engineering and on to the second degree in process engineering (MPE) unlike the formal addmission which was full time in Chemical engineering (M.SC). The MPE is a part-time and i am resolute in going for it. Afterall the take home pay i get from my present job is immensely rediculous (far beyond what joichi stated. THANKS joichi, i can't blink twice on this because i realised that these guys here are dream killers and will never want to see u set up. Imagine one of my boss telling me that ''why did i need masters?'' that all that happens in Nigerian schools are basically outdated theories and the company paying me will not be base on my master certificate. They even stood against my professional trainings, because i will be too hot and expensive for them to handle (imagine the cunny craftiness of these guys). |

Seems to me like ur mind is made up as u hve now seen d light. Pls ignore them & go 4 ur masters programme. Anytin less than N100,000 in a job that is not fulfilling ur career plan is not worth it at all. 4 ur information, 2 land a job in d world bank or ADB (African Development Bank), u require a Masters. Also, a masters is an added advantage for any good bank position. All the best my dear. The Lord wld give u d grace 2 do d right thing. |

jeebeewell go for it, @joichi don't compare the quest for knowledge and professional excellence with the the amount u earn in your workplace.what professional theory guides the use of #100,000 or #70,000 below.it is simple,it's either you advance your studies or choose to be static.the choice of that shouldn't in any way be a function of present gratification(s).no decision is perfect, there is always two sides to everything we do in life?the puzzle remains which side pays better, issues like this are more objective than subjective.thanks. |
