33-year-old jobless graduate caught for stealing N80,000 from ATM

By Akin Oyedele, Ibadan

A 33-year-old unemployed graduate, Mr. Adebiyi Okunade, was almost lynched to death in Ibadan, on Tuesday, after stealing N80,000 from the Automated Teller Machine of the Intercontinental Bank Plc, Adamasingba branch.

The self-acclaimed graduate of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, was said to have stolen the money meant for unwary customer, who had earlier fumbled with the machine for several minutes.

It was gathered that when the money initially refused to come out from the first ATM, the suspect, who had lurked around the bank premises, advised the woman to try her luck with the second ATM.

Unknown to him, the woman had become suspicious of the gesture, having already programmed the first machine for the withdrawal, before the suspect played a prank on her to relocate to the other one.

As soon as the woman settled down on the second ATM, with an eye on the first one, the suspect was said to have taken position by the machine and collected the N80, 000 that came out, obviously meant for her.

The alertness of the owner of the money was said to have saved the day as she confronted the man over how he came about the money since he did not insert any card on the ATM within the period.

The thief gave himself away when he allegedly shoved the woman aside and started running away before he was caught and beaten to a pulp

we self we bring unwanted wahala on ourselves.

There should be regulations on how much one could take from ATM?? shocked. why that amount from atm??

Even the country where such machine was invented, there is a max you could take from atm i think 400. anything higher than that
you go into the bank.

This news is hard to believe because an ATM cannot dispense more than 40k at once. How come 80k came out of the ATM is it once or twice?

a probe into this shld started.

i doubt if that money is really the woman's money; cos one normal grounds, on 40k can exit an ATM at once

i suspect the guy hacked into the system with some kinda password which someone in the bank must have given to him
