My King Sunny Ade MEGAPOST.

The first song is from his 1982 Juju music album, it's titled Ja funmi ( fight for me). Nice song.

Ja Funmi

My next favourite song on the album is Ma Jaiye Oni, meaning I'll have fun today. This is a song about having fun in the present and not worrying about the future. I am not going to write alot about this songs because the music speaks for itself. Watch out for a nice guitar solo 2 minutes into the song.

Ma Jaiye Oni

These next songs are from his Live Live Ju Ju album.

The first one is titled Mo ti Mo (I know now), it is a redo of one of his earlier song titled Mi o mo ( I don't know). I may be reaching here but I think they are both songs about destiny with KSA not knowing his own fate in the beginning of his career - Mi O mo. The song Mo ti mo came out at the time he had already secured a place for himself as one of the best in the Nigerian music scene and thus, he now knows his own fate.

Mo ti mo ( I know now)

The next one from the same album is titled Maa jo( I will dance). There's  a common theme of destiny, worries and fun in a lot of KSA's songs. This is a song about dancing and drinking away your sorrows without worrying about what the future brings. Was KSA depressed around the time he sang this songs? In a part of the song he sings about things going on in the world at this time and sings about having hope so far you stay alive.

Hi great post! My dad's Nigerian, but he passed away 2 years ago. I was looking through some of his old records looking for this song that reminded me of him and my childhood. And I found it - it was Dr Victor Olaiya's - Omo Pupa. I googled the meaning and this came up. I have been a member since August but have only just figured out how to post. I'm a lurker and read the forums sometimes. I love all the old stuff. I have records (stolen possibly) from a radio station in Ibadan. I wonder if you will read this?? How oh how do i access the tracks you've posted? It's funny, i know there is a big market out there for ppl who are into highlife/juju/afro beat. Lots of compilations have been released this last couple of years!

write back please!!!!!!!

Man, your Dad must have had a huge collection. In what format does he have them - CDs, vinyls, cassettes? It will be cool if he had vinyls because the CDs are crap. Foreign labels break up the songs into tracks and most of these songs are not meant to be broken up.

I already started updating the links as you can see, if you want me to translate somethings for you, I'll try.
Re: N-guage's Music Thread. by nguage(m): 2:46am On Dec 14, 2008
Yeah, I have some good Sir Shina Peter songs, this right here is his best work. Don't download the any SSP albums on  i-tunes. The only Shina Peters album on it is the one he did with Kennis Music a few years back, that album was shite.

This is Side A of his 1989 Ace album. These songs are quite vulgar, if you're able understand Yoruba, you'll see what I mean. If you can't I'll do a bit of translation - ""

"I see a beutiful girl shaped like the figure 8, the breasts on her chest taste better that an orange. Young lady dance with your chest - digi right digi left oya oya were were kiamosa, oya dance with your chest"

Sir Shina Peters - Afro Juju/ Je Kajo/ Ijo Shina/ Moju Kuro/ Oyin momo/ Omoge To Rewa

If I get replies, I'll post the Side B of the Shina Peters joint.
Re: N-guage's Music Thread. by Lolalu: 10:09am On Dec 16, 2008
yay! Thanks

My dad was Edo, but spoke Yoruba and a bit of Hausa. I understand nothing, but still like the tunes. I have a handful of records made in Nigeria. They have written on them 'Radio Nigeria Ibadan'. The rest are from compilations. Are you Yoruba? I was born in Ibadan, I went back about 4-5 years ago and tried to find records, but nada. If you have time side B would be ace. Your in the U.S right? Are your family there with you?
Re: N-guage's Music Thread. by Lolalu: 10:36am On Dec 16, 2008
Oops I was wrong, I don't have a lot of the things you posted but I have them now. Thanks so much. You should check out this site called 'soulseek' http://www-soulseek.org/?t=slsk1A

It's a p2p that has heaps of stuff, all for free if your into piracy. I'm going to go on there now and search for some of the albums you have. grin cheesy

^^I've been really busy with my finals and that explains why I'm replying late. I'm in New York and yeah, I'm here with my family. I used to be a soulseeker, that was around September but they changed then their server and I uninstalled the program.

Once I'm done with my exams, I'll post more and more songs and not just Nigerian songs this time. But for now the Side B

Sir Shina Peters - Omo Enia Lo Sora / Jesu Gbadura Mi / Atoto Arere / Irawo Lagba (Ace) / Adebisi Odutayo / Afro-Juju Lo Gbode

Re: N-guage's Music Thread. by nguage(m): 10:16pm On Dec 17, 2008
Edide ke mujo means Get up and Dance, one of the more popular songs by KSA.  Upbeat and lots of rhythm, this must have been during the electric drums craze in the erly 90s.

King Sunny Ade - E Dide E Mujo

http://www.zshare.net/audio/52889411067a5f09/

Another Sunny Ade song, this is kind of early KSA. This is E Su Biribiri or Mi O Mo (Compare it with Mo Ti Mo the one I posted earlier).

I actually go by my Nigerian name. My middle name is european, and I have never been known as that. My first has always been an Edo name.

I don't wanna post it though. Is there a way to send private msgs?

Thanks soooo much again for the tracks. Good luck with your finals.

Wish I could upload something for you in return  smiley

Oh sure, you can always send me an email since this messageboards don't have a private message feature.

Upload whatever songs you have, this thread is not all about old Nigerian music, it's about good music. So if you have any good songs, upload.

Speaking of non-Nigerian music, I'll start deviating from what I've been doing all along from this post on. But to establish some sort of connection, I'll post what might as well be my last Nigerian song, except I find a song that I really feel like posting.

This song is the first track on Fela's 1971 album LIVE!, an album recorded with British drummer Ginger Baker, who (as seen in this clip) went to Nigeria to record the album with Fela and his Africa 70s band.
