JOHESU Heads To National Industrial Court (NIC) by tegax(m): 10:52pm On Jul 07, 2014 |
The Joint Health Sectors Union (JOHESU) and Assembly of Healthcare Professionals of Nigeria (AHPN) has headed to the National Industrial Court (NIC) to seek a perpetual injunction against the Nigeria Medical and Dental Consultants of Nigeria (MDCN), the NMA and Federal Government from infringing on its statutory provisions as professional groups in the health sector as well as on their rights and privileges among other prayers. Hearing in the suit filed last Thursday has been slated for Thursday July 10. Reacting to the report of the FG's MoU with NMA, President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), Olumide Akintayo, and Deputy President, National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), Femi Tonade, have both warned against the consequences of Federal Government "sacrificing the agreement it earlier had with (JOHESU/AHPN) to satisfy the doctors' interest". Speaking to our correspondent, Akintayo asked: "How can we be contented if they sacrifice our own agreement to satisfy the doctors? "Government should know there are consequences and we will look critically into it to react appropriately". He however said the PSN is yet to see the document of MoU, "but when we do, we will make appropriate statement", said Akintayo. Similarly, Tonade told our correspondent that the association is not in contention with doctors' demand for what they think they are entitled to do have. "Rather, our issues which we have enumerated over time are germane and have been presented to the federal government which has honoured us and we feel contented with the honour hence we are going about our professional duties. "There is no problem if government decides to review its agreement with doctors, we would wait to see the review, study it before we take any position if there is need for that", said Tonade. http://nursingworldnigeria.com/2014/07/johesu-heads-to-national-industrial-court-nic http://dailyindependentnig.com/2014/07/johesu-heads-industrial-court/ 3 Likes |

It is only in Nigeria that the Drs want to head all aspects of the medical profession but want to remain unprofessional, arrogant and complete chEats. They want All nurses to have Bsc cos that is the minimum in the USA currently (without a pay rise and when they get their Phd they should not be addressed as Drs of Nursing and when they become Profs should still not be consultants) . Pharm D should not be approved (as it is currently in the USA) cos it will give the Pharmacists the privilege of being addressed as Drs which will inturn lead to them becoming a consultant and as such can head a medical institution which is d practise in the USA currently. They are less concerned about the patients, self centered, arrogant and completely undertrained (unprofessional), harbalists are better than some of them but want to remain at the top. In all if this, the government and the Psyche of the Nigerian pple is to blame. The government is so lost also on the issue of HND vs Bachelor's degree .The stance, choices and decisions of the government is a reflection of the sanity and maturity of the Psyche of it's pple 2 Likes |

The FG should channel funds into the development of Homeopathic Medicine, Natural Medicine,Ayurvedic medicine, Ethnomedicine, Functional medicine, Holistic medicine and research into these important fields of medicine as is done in China, India U.S.A etc, where our Politicians go for medical tourism. No country with a solid health care system depends majorly on just one system of health practice- Allopathic medicine. Nigeria is ripe for a functional Pluralistic Medical system. 1 Like |

Nigerians brace up, 80% of professionals and workers in the health sector will soon withdraw their services. I'm sorry the other 20% (who are currently asking for heaven and earth) won't be able to meet your demands no matter how hard they try. Thank you. 4 Likes |

Government is to blame for not being firm. UK have their standards, US has its own, Russia and China have theirs but Nigeria is just copy, copy. Let us develop ours that suits our environment and enables us make progress. Hnd should never equal BSc and that is a standard. Even in JAMB its 180 university and 150 polytechnics. O levels for university is 5 credits polytechnic 3 so how can they ask for parity? 3 Likes |
