MY PARENTS' PROSPERITY
TEXT: GENESIS 24:34-38

"And Abraham was old, and well stricken in age: and the LORD had blessed Abraham in all things" (GENESIS 24:1).

Riches and material increase are God's blessings and heritage for Christians. As you seek spiritual blessings and your soul's prosperity through repentance from sin, and separation from sinful peers and partners, God will add material blessings to you. Through you, your parents, the church and the world at large can enjoy divine abundance if you are steadfast in serving the Lord. These blessings multiply even more when the family members unite in righteousness; and are consistent in holy living. If your family members are still living in sin, God can use you to bring them to the Kingdom if you can pray and preach Christ to them.

From our text, Abraham obeyed the call of God, yielded himself totally to God's priority; and God blessed him in all things. He became great; he had unquantifiable silver and gold as well as abundance of livestock. He was among the economic powers in His time. Your parents too can be blessed like Abraham in all things as you uphold them in prayer. God will bless the works of their hands.

Quote: "Your parents too can be blessed"

Chɑllenge: "Serve God and your household will be blessed"

Prɑyer: "Lord, show my parents the path to true prosperity"

PERSONAL PERSUASION
TEXT: ROMANS 8:35-39

"For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come...shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord" (ROMANS 8:38-39).

A popular chorus reads:

"I have decided to follow Jesus,
I have decided to follow Jesus,
I have decided to follow Jesus,
No turning back,
No turning back."

The call to follow Jesus is a personal and not corporate one. It is a call to suffer pain, hatred, rejection from friends, and sometimes, even from family members. The world is against any youth who wants to follow the way of the cross, but our Lord embraces, supports and strengthens him or her despite the raging storms of life.

Personal persuasion is born out of personal experience from seeming difficulties in the Christian race. From our text, you can see that as you persevere through distress, peril, famine, persecution, loss, lack, etc., your faith is perfected and your persuasion in Christ as His child deepens, and unquantifiable joy oozes out of your heart ceaselessly.

In spite of persecution and ridicules from the people of the world, if you are born again the Lord will see you through. Indeed, tribulations and trials ratify and validate our faith. Earthly and eternal rewards await all who remain firm in their resolve to follow Christ till the end.

Quote: "It is a call to suffer"

Chɑllenge: "Can your faith withstand fiery trials?"

Prɑyer: "Lord Jesus, give me the rugged faith of overcomers"

SERVE GOD AND BE SERVED
TEXT: EXODUS 23:22-25

"And ye shall serve the LORD your God, and He shall bless thy bread, and thy water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee" (EXODUS 23:25).

There lived a missionary who before he got converted, lost his wife and children through a fire accident. He was dejected and went into drunkenness. One day, after reading a gospel tract, he got converted and decided to serve God. He responded to a missionary call to a far country, but for two years, he could not get a single convert. He got discouraged and was about to quit.

Then, one night, God appeared to him and encouraged him to be faithful; he was revived and resumed with greater passion and a multitude came to the Lord. That same year, he got married and had four children within three years. All he once lost was restored because he served God, and God served him in return.

From the passage, God promised to protect, provide for the Israelites and shield them from the diseases and sicknesses in their land. All these promises were hinged on their obedience and unwavering devotion. As you obey and serve God, these benefits will be yours.

Quote: "God owes no man"

Chɑllenge: "Are you serving God with all your heart?"

Prɑyer: "Lord, give me grace to serve You without complaints"

FAITHFUL AND GOD-FEARING
TEXT: NEHEMIAH 7:1-6

"That I gave my brother Hanani, and Hananiah the ruler of the palace, charge over Jerusalem: for he was a faithful man, and feared God above many" (NEHEMIAH 7:2).

Desiring to serve God in His vineyard is a noble decision. But, one must be God-fearing and faithful. The essence of a good selection process in the choice of leadership is to ensure that genuine and committed people, whose passion is to serve God with sincerity, are brought to limelight to serve God with all the spiritual endowments God has bestowed on them.

Nehemiah appointed workers who would serve the Lord in His vineyard. He appointed his brother, Hanani, to be in charge of Jerusalem. His decision was not based on affinity but on faithfulness and readiness to serve on the part of the appointee. He also entrusted the city to Hananiah whom he described as a man who was faithful and God-fearing.

You too can be appointed to serve in the school fellowship or in your local church assembly if you are faithful and holy. To be used in God's house and in the world at large, the Christian youth must seek to please God first by yielding his or her life totally to God through genuine repentance.

Quote: "You can be appointed"

Chɑllenge: "Are you faithful in all things?"

Prɑyer: "Lord, put Your fear in my heart while I serve You all my days"

WOEFUL FALL THROUGH WOMEN
TEXT: NEHEMIAH 13:23-28

"Did not Solomon king of Israel sin by these things? yet among many nations was there no king like him, who was beloved of his God, and God made him king over all Israel: nevertheless even him did outlandish women cause to sin" (NEHEMIAH 13:26).

Our text reveals the awful tragedy that King Solomon brought upon himself and the whole kingdom through lust for women. This canker has claimed countless lives, destroyed a lot of talents, and blinded the vision of many youths. Reuben lost his birthright, Shechem ended his life with his city, Samson lost his calling, Amnon cut short his life - all for their ungodly passion for women.

To escape this tragedy, you must fight like Nehemiah did. As a wise governor who was eager to complete the spiritual purging of the land, he investigated the families of those that had corrupted themselves by marrying ungodly women, and reproved them.

Inordinate affection towards the opposite sex must be brought to the foot of the cross where forgiveness and grace can be obtained through prayers of repentance. Many youths have destroyed their lives as a result of immorality. Some have addicted themselves to pornography.

Discipline yourself if you want to overcome lust. Constantly fill your heart with God's Word and maintain fellowship with the brethren. Beware of gifts and favour from sinners.

Quote: "Fill your heart with God's Word"

Chɑllenge: "Guard against evil, or you will be influenced by it"

Prɑyer: "O Lord, help me always when under seduction"

WEEP FOR GOD'S WEAPONS
TEXT: JUDGES 15:9-17

"And he found a new jawbone of an ass, and put forth his hand, and took it, and slew a thousand men therewith" (JUDGES 15:15).

Cowards' language always shows they want to remain under bondage and captivity of the enemy. This was not so for Samson. Being filled with God's power, Samson knew that God could use the thing that is lightly esteemed in the sight of men to accomplish His purpose. By casting away the jawbone, Samson demonstrated that the power to accomplish much was not in the jawbone, but in the Spirit of God that came mightily on him initially. God himself said: "One man of you shall chase a thousand: for the LORD your God, he it is that fighteth for you, as he hath promised you."

Today, we do not employ carnal weapons in our spiritual warfare (2 Corinthians 10:4). Therefore, any born again and sanctified youth who wants to do exploits must cry out unto God for the baptism of the Holy Spirit. The word of God, righteous living, faith and prayer are other potent weapons in combating foes. Stand firm today in prayer of faith and war against all enemies of progress in your life. Your victory is sure.

Quote: "Stand firm today in prayer"

Chɑllenge: "God gives power to them that wait upon Him"

Prɑyer: "O God, pour thy Spirit on me, in Jesus' name"

DECEITFUL DEEDS
TEXT: EXODUS 8:25-32

"And Moses said, Behold, I go out from thee, and I will intreat the LORD that the swarms of flies may depart from Pharaoh...to morrow: but let not Pharaoh deal deceitfully any more in not letting the people go to sacrifice to the LORD" (EXODUS 8:29).

Pharaoh's stubbornness in not freeing the Israelites from servitude occasioned the plague of flies that besieged the Egyptians. He displayed false repentance and deceitfully agreed to let them go. As soon as the flies were removed, he hardened his heart, and refused to let the people go.

Just like Pharaoh, selfishness has poisoned the heart of many ungodly youths today and made them deceitful. The words of their mouths are filled with lies and flatteries. They deceive their parents, teachers, classmates, etc., in the name of 'smartness'.

The thought of a natural youth is corrupt and his counsel is deceit. Jeremiah said "As a cage is full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit" (Jeremiah 5:27). The judgment of God awaits all deceitful people if they fail to repent.

Therefore, the deceiver must acknowledge his/her sinful deeds, believe in Jesus for forgiveness and continue steadfastly in following Him and His eternal Word. We must speak the truth always in spite of some negative consequences that may follow. Shun deceit at all times.

Quote: "Shun deceit at all times"

Chɑllenge: "Take heed that no man deceives you"

Prɑyer: "Lord, deliver me from the spirit of the last days"

GAINS FOR OUR GROANS
TEXT: ROMANS 8:22-25

"And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body" (ROMANS 8:23).

Our devotional today opens up the matter of the general pains humanity goes through as a result of the fall of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, and the hope of the saved on earth when their bodies would be redeemed from the grave (resurrection of believers) and adopted by our Father in heaven as children.

For now, the saved, Jews and Gentiles, still groan in pains of hunger, thirst, disease, death and all forms of catastrophes. Hence, the hymn writer wonders:

"Does Jesus care when my heart is pained Too deeply for mirth and song;
As the burdens press, and the cares distress,
And the way grows weary and long?"

Praise God the refrain says:

"O yes, He cares, I know He cares! His heart is touched with my grief;
When the days are weary, the long nights dreary, I know my Saviour cares."

We should not allow our present light afflictions to becloud our vision of heaven with all that our Saviour has promised the Church. When we get to heaven, all the groans and pains will be forgotten as the joy of seeing and being with Jesus takes over.

Quote: "He cares"

Chɑllenge: "It is better for you to suffer now and gain the future glory"

Prɑyer: "Lord, help me to finish well"

LIVING OR DEAD FAITH
TEXT: JAMES 2:14-22

"Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works" (JAMES 2:17, 18).

We are in a generation of believers in the church who profess to have faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, yet at the same time show no evidence of sincere devotion to Him and His word.

Saving faith is always a living faith that does not only confess Jesus as Saviour, but also obeys Him as Lord. Saving faith keeps the believer on motion when it seems the whole world is against him.

To profess saving faith in Christ and contradict Him in deeds is a dead faith. Good works borne out of love of God are evidences of living faith. Good works of morality without salvation in Christ cannot save as they are filthy rags before God.

However, your faith must be backed up with good works for you to remain saved because without righteousness, your Christianity is fake. Faith should not be professed in isolation - it goes with gracious works. It is only by works that faith is perfected.

Good works entail sacrificial services that proceed from a pure heart towards God and humanity. Living faith demonstrates Christlikeness through good works.

Quote: "Living faith demonstrates Christlikeness"

Chɑllenge: "Faith can only live through good works"

Prɑyer: "Quicken my faith for sacrificial service, O God!"

LOVING HATERS OF THE LORD?
TEXT: 2 CHRONICLES 19:1-7

"And Jehu the son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him, and said to king Jehoshaphat, Shouldest thou help the ungodly, and love them that hate the LORD? Therefore is wrath upon thee from before the LORD" (2 CHRONICLES 19:2).

Jehoshaphat's indiscreet affinity with the idolatrous king of Israel was a total violation of God's instruction against unequal yoke. He substituted his spiritual position as the king of Judah with his socio-economic and political status, and equated himself with Ahab, the hater of the truth. He joined the wicked to fight a battle which almost claimed his life if not for God's intervention. God expressed His displeasure through His servant, Jehu, the seer, to warn Jehoshaphat on returning from his ungodly trip. Youths should be mindful of the people they fellowship with to avoid falling into the hands of the devil.

Unequal yoke with unbelievers and backsliders attracts God's frown and judgment. Friendship with the world is enmity against God. Samson, Dinah, Demas and Judas Iscariot are culprits. To be unequally yoked in business, marriage, fellowship, etc., has grave consequences such as premature death, failure, divorce, frustration, setbacks, stagnation, etc. Loving haters of the Lord is betrayal. Believers are warned to come out of ungodly association with unbelievers and be separated unto the Lord.

Quote: "Be separated unto the Lord."

Chɑllenge: "Unequal yoke is a yoke equal to bondage"

Prɑyer: "O Lord, deliver me from presumptuous sin and compromise!"

FAITH IN AN ENVIRONMENT OF FEAR
TEXT: NUMBERS 14:1-9

"Only rebel not ye against the LORD, neither fear ye the people of the land; for they are bread for us: their defence is departed from them, and the LORD is with us: fear them not" (NUMBERS 14:9).

The wilderness journey was originally designed by God to prove the faithfulness of the children of Israel. God allowed certain challenging situations to confront the people in order to examine their comportment in trying times. The evil reports brought back by ten spies constituted the environment upon which their fear thrived. Walking by sight was their nightmare. They soon forgot God's miraculous deliverance through mighty signs and wonders. Obsessed by fear, they spoke against their leaders and wished they (murmurers) had died in Egypt.

Fear has torment, can cripple the brain and impair proper thinking. Like Joshua and Caleb, we must base our confidence in God's promises. You must see through the eyes of faith and the might of the Almighty. Faith is our weapon of victory. Only faith can remove fear.

F.E.A.R. can be seen acronymically as False Evidence Appearing Real. Greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world. Through the shield of faith, you can quench all the fiery darts of the devil. Walk by faith and not by sight.

Quote: "See through the eyes of faith."

Chɑllenge: "God calms all fears"

Prɑyer: "O Lord, increase my faith!"

WONDERS OF GOD'S WORD
TEXT: ISAIAH 55:8-11

"So shall My word be that goeth forth out of My mouth: it shall not return unto Me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it" (ISAIAH 55:11).

God's word is the final authority on all matters of life in all ages. It is eternally settled in Heaven and cannot be altered or mutilated. God's word reveals His majesty, might, judgment and justice. It is a dynamic and powerful tool with inexhaustible attributes of wisdom and operations.

God's word is a creative word (Psalm 33:6). It also sustains creation such that anyone who chooses to believe it can be sustained in any circumstance. The word of God has the power to impart new life, bringing life to those that are dead in sin and trespasses.

More so, it releases grace, power and revelation by which believers grow in faith and commitment to Jesus Christ. It polishes our character and refines us to glowing and glory. It is the sword of the Spirit by which Satan can be defeated. It judges and corrects us so that we can remain secured in Christ.

To profit maximally from the Word, you must read, study, meditate, and personally apply the light of revelations. God is faithful to His Word and promise.

Quote: "Satan has been defeated."

Chɑllenge: "Jesus Christ is God's Word personified"

Prɑyer: "O Lord, establish me in Your Word and Your Word in me."

GOD’S POTENT PRESCRIPTION– 1
TEXT: EXODUS 15:22-27

"And he cried unto the LORD; and the LORD shewed him a tree, which when he had cast into the waters, the waters were made sweet: there he made for them a statute and an ordinance, and there he proved them" (EXODUS 15:25).

It is popularly said that, “The more you look, the less you see.” This was the case of the Israelites in our text. After their divine intervention from Egyptian slavery, they continued their journey three days in the wilderness of Shur, and found no water. Coming to Marah, and finding bitter waters, they murmured against Moses. In answer to the prayer of Moses, God showed him a tree by which the waters were sweetened. The Israelites saw more of their present predicament (thirst for water) and could not see the solution (tree) around them.

The solutions to most of man’s problems are closer to him than he can imagine. Sin and faithlessness are twin causes of suffering and unanswered prayers.

The tree God showed Moses is symbolic of the cross of Christ. All who are weary in sin and battered by its consequences should run to the cross for forgiveness and cleansing. Christ also specialises in turning every bitter situation into a blessed moment. Pray in faith today and you will not be disappointed.

Quote: "Pray in faith."

Chɑllenge: "Worry less and pray more"

Prɑyer: "Dear Lord, help me to trust You at all times and in all situations."

GOD’S POTENT PRESCRIPTION– 2
TEXT: JAMES 5:13-18

"Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much" (JAMES 5:16).

Felix was envied and hated by his classmates for his exceptional academic performance, and worse still, for his uncompromising stance against vices perpetrated by them.

One day, Samson, a notorious classmate of Felix who often spearheaded hostilities against him, fell critically ill. All Samson's gang mates tried all they could to help him recover to no avail.

Felix came to the scene, spoke words of faith and prayed for him and he was instantaneously healed. They were all broken and confessed their faults to Felix, who took the opportunity to lead them to Christ.

Prayer is talking to God. It is a place where pride is abandoned, hope is lifted and supplication is made. For one's prayer to be answered, there must be confession of faults to God and then to fellow men, especially those our actions have affected. Faith and fervency are also crucial for prayer to be effective.

There is no situation that is impossible for God to deal with. Have a groaning in your heart for a change of situation and travail in prayer until the answer comes. God bless you!

Quote: "Prayer is talking to God."

Chɑllenge: "Nothing prayer cannot do"

Prɑyer: "Lord, please forgive my faults and intervene in my problematic situations."

PROSPERITY IS YOUR PORTION
TEXT: JEREMIAH 17:5-8

"Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth" (3 JOHN 1: 2).

It is very common to see young people in the rat race to 'make it' to a point that they are ready to do and give anything to achieve their desires. But, as a child of God, it is pertinent to have a holistic grasp of God's mind concerning prosperity.

First, prosperity goes beyond having money. It is wealth mixed with health and achievement of set goals. Also, prosperity is only an instrument to be used, not a deity to be worshipped as Calvin Coolidge said.

You do not have to chase after what is yours. In fact, Jesus told us what to pursue. He said: "seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you."

As children of God, it is His desire that we have all round prosperity. Follow His precepts, trust Him firmly, be hardworking, generous, prayerful and resolve never to compromise, and prosperity shall be your portion in Jesus' name.

Quote: "Trust Him firmly."

Chɑllenge: "Be determined to have all-round prosperity"

Prɑyer: "O Lord, cause me to prosper in all that I do today."

HUMILITY: THE SAINT'S HALLMARK
TEXT: PHILIPPIANS 2:5-11

"And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross" (PHILIPPIANS 2:8).

Humility is a very important Christian virtue that marks us out as real followers of Christ. Kris Vallotton said: "True humility is not the absence of confidence but rather, strength restrained."

Jesus Christ is the ultimate model of humility and servanthood. He was of a meek and humble Spirit. He was humble and obedient both to God and man. Thus, He laid aside the splendour of His glory as God and took upon Him the human form.

He subjected Himself to His parents, worked at the trade of a carpenter, conversed with the meanest of men and washed His disciples' feet. He also complied with His Father's will. Humility made Him to offer His life as a sacrifice to the Father to save humanity.

Humility is an issue of the heart and requires genuine repentance for all sins with inward transformation of heart. You should not wait for God to humble you as that will only result in humiliation as it was in Nebuchadnezzar's case. Make humility a lifestyle, and God will take you higher every day.

Quote: "Make humility a lifestyle."

Chɑllenge: "Be a model of humility"

Prɑyer: "Dear Lord, give me a meek and humble spirit like that of Jesus Christ."

TIMELY NOTE-TAKING
TEXT: ESTHER 6:1-10

"And it was found written, that Mordecai had told of Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king’s chamberlains, the keepers of the door, who sought to lay hand on the king Ahasuerus" (ESTHER 6:2).

Robert G. LeTourneau, the notable American Christian industrialist, who manufactured almost 70% of the earthmoving machines and vehicles used during World War 2, was good at note-taking.

On a certain occasion, as he was on a private jet flight, he slept off. However, he sometimes woke up, jotted down things in his notepad, and returned to sleep. When fully awake, he never remembered jotting down anything.

Such jottings helped this great inventor. Note-taking aids students' concentration and makes permanent the ideas, facts and concepts discussed in class.

Mordecai's act of loyalty probably would not have been remembered and rewarded by the king, but for the written record. Note-taking is important for youths at school, in the Church and everywhere.

Take notes! Do not operate phones or chat during services. Obtain a notepad and pen for jotting today. During your 'quiet time' as well as Church services, ensure you take notes that can be helpful to you in the future.

Quote: "Obtain a notepad and pen for jotting."

Chɑllenge: "Much is lost by not taking notes"

BRING HIM YOUR BURDEN
TEXT: MATTHEW 11:28-30

"Come unto Me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest" (MATTHEW 11:28).

It was the great evangelist, Billy Graham, who brought multitudes to Christ through his tent meetings, mass crusades and street evangelism, that wrote: "It is man's unwillingness to learn and to obey God's Laws that has laid such a heavy burden on our souls."

Our world is full of challenges that burden our souls. Often, young people fall into depression due to problems that they cannot appropriately handle such as: academic failure, poverty, rejection, addiction to drugs and immoral practices. However, in our text, Jesus declares Himself the Burden Bearer of all those who genuinely come to Him.

Are your burdens unbearable? Jesus is able and willing to help you. The Samaritan woman, who could not keep to a man, burdened Nicodemus, the ruler, and Zacchaeus, the corrupt public officer, all got help from Christ.

What is required of you is to accept Him as your Lord and Saviour today and your weeping will turn to joy. Remember, Peter's net caught a shoal of fish where he initially caught nothing because Jesus stepped in. Jesus cares for you.

Quote: "Jesus cares for you."

Chɑllenge: "I cannot bear my burden alone"

Prɑyer: "Lord, I hand over my burden to You."

WORK! WORK! WORK!
TEXT: PROVERBS 6:6-11

"In all labour there is profit: but the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury" (PROVERBS 14:23).

Most people would have avoided work if it was not a necessity. Labouring on the farm, carrying out scientific researches, or working in factories and offices may not give pleasure. However, Otto Von Bismark wrote, "To youth, I have but three words of counsel - work, work, work."

Many youths fail in their academic pursuits or in their entrepreneurial efforts, not because of lack of ability but because they simply will not work hard. The inspirational writer, Kevin Durant, captures this succinctly, "Hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard."

Remove distractions and concentrate on your goal. Avoid "friends" and anything that would hinder you from hard work for success.

You may be a star among your peers because you can talk, but that will not get your work done. Always remember that no excuse for failure is good enough. Work hard and obey God's Word.

If you are not yet born-again, whisper a prayer of repentance and invite Jesus into your heart. He will help you to succeed as you do your part by working hard.

Quote: "No excuse for failure is good enough."

Chɑllenge: "Laziness leads to failure and disappointment"

Prɑyer: "Father, may You grant me the grace of hard work."

WALK IN WISDOM
TEXT: COLOSSIANS 4:2-6

"Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time" (COLOSSIANS 4:5).

Wisdom is a very important virtue which all Christians must possess. Christ is the wisdom of God. There should therefore be nothing like a foolish Christian. Walking in wisdom is a call to all Christians to know how to behave as they interact with believers and unbelievers in the society.

God's Word is a source of wisdom. "It is a fact that those whose lives are daily being conformed to the word and purposes of God will see issues more plainly," said Malcolm Watts.

Christian youths should guard their salvation jealously to avoid backsliding. Youths in high schools and tertiary educational institutions should watch who they accept as friends; take note, sudden friends lead to regrets. Some youths are lured into cults and wicked gangs for not walking wisely.

The starting point of walking in wisdom is making Christ your Lord and Saviour. It is also wisdom to change the lives of sinning youths in your locality through evangelism.

Quote: "Christ is the Wisdom of God."

Chɑllenge: "Sudden friends lead to regrets"

Prɑyer: "Lord Jesus, may I be like You, in wisdom."

A LESSON FOR LOAFERS
TEXT: 2 THESSALONIANS 3:6-15

"For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies. Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread" (2 THESSALONIANS 3:11, 12).

Abraham Lincoln said, "My father taught me to work; he did not teach me to love it."

Loafers are idlers and loiterers; they do not like to work. They are people who are not serious-minded. They have no visions and therefore no goals, no achievements.

Thomas Edison, who experimented ten thousand times with different materials before getting the right filament that produced the incandescent light bulb said, "God gives every bird its food, but He does not throw it into its nest." That is a great lesson.

What are your career goals in life? Do you have any problem in pursuing a tertiary education course? There is something you can still do for a fruitful life.

Like Thomas Edison, you can go for a vocational training and become a successful entrepreneur. Pray to God to guide you and lift you up. Do not be a loafer.

Quote: "Do not be a loafer."

Chɑllenge: "How usefully engaged are you?"

Prɑyer: "Lord, rid me of the loafing spirit."

PLANNING FOR PROGRESS
TEXT: LUKE 14:27-33

"For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?" (LUKE 14:28).

The Israelites had delays on their way to Canaan. At a point, God had to urge them to move on. Read this, "The Lord our God spake unto us in Horeb, saying, Ye have dwelt long enough in this mount: Turn you, and take your journey..." (Deuteronomy 1:6, 7a). Journeying to reach their land of destiny was progress.

Harold Mayfield declared, "Progress is a tide. If we stand still, we will surely be drowned. To stay on the crest, we have to keep moving." Yes, keep moving to make necessary progress - but plan it.

All progress requires planning. Families, companies and educational institutions plan. To go higher in education, you must plan; plan for the course of study, the institution to attend, finance and other resources. Pray and plan for progress.

As a Christian, also plan for spiritual progress. You should move from salvation to sanctification and to Holy Ghost baptism. Plan and move on.

Quote: "Also plan for spiritual progress."

Chɑllenge: "How long will you remain at this point?"

Prɑyer: "Lord, show me what to do to make progress."

FRIENDS, BEST FRIENDS!
TEXT: 1 SAMUEL 19:1-7

"A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother" (PROVERBS 18:24).

One dictionary says that a friend is "Somebody who trusts and is fond of another." A friend should love, care, and be kind and compassionate always. According to John L. Mason, "Your true best friends are those who bring out the best in you. You are better, not worse, after you have been around them."

The friendship between David and Jonathan was super (1 Samuel 19:1-7). However, there is undoubtedly no friend like Jesus. He is the great Friend who forgives sins (Luke 5:20); "Seeing their faith, He said, 'Friend, your sins are forgiven you.'" He is the great sacrificial Friend, Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends" (John 15:13).

Invite Jesus into your life as your best friend. Jesus said, "You are my friends, if you do what I command you." (John 15:14). Jesus is not only close to His friends, but loves and helps them always.

Quote: "There is undoubtedly no friend like Jesus."

Chɑllenge: "Rather be a friend of Jesus, than of Satan and the world"

Prɑyer: "Lord Jesus, make me Your friend today."
