CHRIST IS CRUCIFIED- 1
TEXT: JOHN 19:17-27

"And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha: Where they crucified him, and two others with him, on either side one, and Jesus in the midst" (JOHN 19:17, 18).

Ahmed Deedat, one of the religious clerics in South Africa, in August 1981, erroneously said about Christ's crucifixion that, "...they didn't kill Him, nor did they crucify Him. But it was made to appear to them so. And those who dispute therein, are full of doubts. They have no certain knowledge; they only follow conjecture, guesswork. For of a surety, they killed Him not."

Regardless of the fact that God sent several preachers to him, he maintained his position. Many youths today are yet to come to terms with the reality of the fact that Christ was crucified and that He rose on the third day.

During this Easter period, take time to meditate on Christ's vicarious death on the cross of Calvary for your redemption. He died to redeem mankind, and you in particular, from the bondage of sin and Satan. Before He died on the cross, He said, "...It is finished: and he bowed his head and gave up the ghost" (John 19:30).

Why should you perish in your sins? Come to Christ before it is too late.

Quote: "Meditate on Christ's vicarious death!"

Chɑllenge: "The Redeemer will judge you if you reject Him."

Prɑyer: "O Lord, I surrender, finish transgression in my life"

CHRIST IS CRUCIFIED - 2
TEXT: JOHN 19:28-35

"When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost" (JOHN 19:30).

Christ came to the world to fulfill the purpose of saving souls from sin. Fulfilling this mandate did not come as an easy task; it required Christ's total surrender to the will of the Father in Heaven, as well as enduring suffering and persecution. The good news is that He died, was buried and rose again as the grave could not hold Him back. The crucifixion of Christ gives us eternal life. We ought to embrace this benefit and opportunity to be saved so that Christ's death is not in vain in our lives.

The agony and pain of the cross as He bore the sin of the whole world was so much for Him. He died so we can live; He became wretched, so we can be rich through Him to possess eternal salvation and other blessings. The more you linger in sin, the more you reject the benefits of the old rugged cross, and this will lead to eternal doom at the end of your life here on earth. Give Jesus a chance so that you can be a changed person forever.

Quote: "He bore the sin of the whole world!"

Chɑllenge: "Receive Christ now!"

Prɑyer: "Oh God, may the crucifixion of Christ not be in vain in my life"

NO LONGER IN THE GRAVE
TEXT: MATTHEW 28:5-8

"He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay" (MATTHEW 28:6).

"Up from the grave He arose,
With a mighty triumph o'er His foes,
He arose a Victor from the dark domain,
And He lives forever with His saints to reign,
He arose!
He arose!
Hallelujah! Christ arose!"

These lyrics as beautifully penned down by Daniel Thornton, aptly capture the victory of the resurrection morning.
Christ had paid the ultimate price with His shed blood, He was embalmed and lowered into the grave. One by one His disciples sadly moved on with their lives with no string of hope left. First day passed, second day passed; then came the third day, the very foundations of death were shaken as Christ arose triumphantly from the grave!

There is the hope and victory we have that Christ died and rose again for our justification. Jesus conquered death so that we can live again.
Are you lost and worn out in the dark and grim grave of sin? Are you weighed down by challenges in your academics, family or health? Cry out to the risen Lord, He is the answer.

Quote: "Jesus conquered death so we can live again!"

Chɑllenge: "You can find a lively hope today, through His resurrection power."

Prɑyer: "Dear Lord, cause the power of your resurrection to save my soul"

A RULER'S ENQUIRY REWARDED
TEXT: JOHN 3:1-8

"Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God" (JOHN 3:3).

Seeking useful clarification is the hallmark of a good student. Nicodemus demonstrated this by removing his pharisaic hypocritical veil in order to find answers to matters of salvation from the Lord Himself. He did not feel too 'well-positioned' or 'too-big' to learn.

The burning issue on this ruler's mind was strong enough to make him go out alone in the night to the place where the Teacher was. He could not suppress his amazement about the wonderful teaching he heard from the Master. One may ask; where were his colleagues with their broad phylacteries and enlarged garments' borders when he came to Christ?

The length of time of upholding fake ideals or cleaving to wrong beliefs can never establish it as right. Pursue the real thing and stand out boldly. Some people know that the truth would take them away from their cherished earthly pleasures, so they prefer to avoid it entirely.

In the end, the ruler got a reward for his enquiry. Nicodemus discovered the truth about salvation - God's requirement for seeing His Kingdom. Have you discovered this? Are you born again?

Quote: "He discovered the truth"

Chɑllenge: "Move closer to God, and He will expound His words to you."

Prɑyer: "Lord, give me a heart that is thirsty to know You more"

READY TO READ ANYWHERE
TEXT: ACTS 8:26-35

"Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot. And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest?" (ACTS 8:29, 30).

The urgency of fulfilling Christ's mandate to preach the gospel everywhere, demands the commitment of all believers, youths inclusive. Today, there is a general apathy among Christians towards evangelism.

Christian youths are preoccupied with contemporary issues which make them insensitive to preaching the gospel. Consequently, unbelieving youths remain unsaved.

A faithful preacher of the gospel must be a voracious reader of the Bible and other Christian literatures to possess sound knowledge of God's Word. How is your reading habit?

Our text presents Philip as a knowledgeable, willing, ready and obedient instrument in God's hand towards the salvation of the Ethiopian Eunuch, who was reading the Scriptures in his chariot without comprehension. Philip, being vast in the Scriptures and empowered by the Holy Spirit, readily expounded the Scriptures and led him to Christ.

Like Philip, God needs you to reach other youths with the gospel and lead them to Christ, but limited knowledge of God's Word will hinder your effectiveness. This, you can overcome through voracious reading. You will also excel in your studies if you are ready to read anywhere.

Quote: "Be a voracious reader of the Bible"

Chɑllenge: "Limited knowledge of God's Word hinders evangelism."

Prɑyer: "Help me Lord, to give myself to reading for Christian service"

THE WHOLE DUTY OF MAN
TEXT: ECCLESIASTES 12:11-14

"Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man" (ECCLESIASTES 12:13).

"A duty dodged is a debt unpaid; it is only deferred, and we must come back and settle the account at last," said Joseph F. Newton.

We are bound to give account of whatever we have done with our body. To fear God is to keep His commandments and live in holiness and righteousness.

Matthew Henry clarified that, "There is a judgement to come. God Himself will be the Judge. Every work will be brought into judgment, even secret things (both good and bad) will be brought to light, and because of the strictness of this judgment, it behooves us to be very strict in our walking with God, that we may give our account with joy."

The judgment of God is both negative and positive. Those who live without fearing or obeying God will get into big trouble. Those who fear and obey the Lord will be rewarded.

Every boy, girl, educated, illiterate and literate will one day stand before God and have their whole life laid open to the Almighty God. Be wise, read and obey God's commandments.

Quote: "Read and obey God's commandments"

Chɑllenge: "God's judgment is imminent."

Prɑyer: "Lord, help me to trust and obey Your holy commands"

BEHOLD THE LAMB OF GOD
TEXT: JOHN 1:29-36

"And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God"! (JOHN 1:36).

The word, "behold" entails to see or look upon. In the context of the text, it goes beyond just merely seeing or looking upon with the physical eyes. To "behold" is to put your faith and trust in Jesus; that is, to own Him as your Saviour.

"Jesus, the Lamb of God, was our once and for all sacrifice that fulfilled God's need for blood offering. He was the perfect sacrifice of love that brought the possibility of salvation to the world. The reference to Christ being the 'Lamb' of God is because Jesus was a perfect offering of purity and cleanliness. He did nothing outside of the Father and was sinless despite being a man," affirmed a Christian writer.

Whatever sin, sickness, difficulty, problems or challenges that ensnares your life, look up to Jesus and you will be delivered. Many youths are entangled with all kinds of immoral lifestyles such as fornication, masturbation, homosexuality, lesbianism and other social vices that damn the soul. To free yourself from these, go to the Lamb of God for total cleansing.

Quote: "Trust in Jesus"

Chɑllenge: "Look up to Jesus and be delivered."

Prɑyer: "Father, I look up to the Lamb for cleansing"

LOOK AND LIVE
TEXT: NUMBERS 21:1-9

"And the LORD said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live" (NUMBERS 21:8).

Our Lord Jesus Christ succinctly declared, "And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life" (John 3:14, 15). "Lifted up" was a phrase used in Jesus' day to mean crucifixion. It also connotes or points to our Lord Jesus' ascension to glory.

The ultimate and unavoidable consequence of our sin is death and judgment before God. We look at the crucified Christ because He has paid the penalty of our sin on the cross of Calvary. He died to set us free from sin. Our salvation emanates from a Saviour who was willing to bear death and judgment for us.

Are you still struggling with sin, self and Satan? Look up to Jesus for deliverance and liberation. No matter the trouble or negative circumstances that bother your mind, a gaze upon Jesus will proffer permanent solution to them. Even that difficult subject will be very simple, as you keep looking unto Jesus. Jesus is the final solution to all your problems.

Quote: "Jesus is the final solution"

Chɑllenge: "Jesus is the solution to all problems."

Prɑyer: "Merciful God, help me to keep looking unto Jesus"

AVOID UNEQUAL YOKE
TEXT: 2 CORINTHIANS 6:14-18

"Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness"? (2 CORINTHIANS 6:14).

Our text today admonishes believers not to be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. "Paul means first, that we should not associate with believers who do not actually live for Jesus, and second, that engaging in any intimate relationship or partnership with someone who does not let Jesus be the centre of their lives will ultimately lead to our destruction. We must cut ties with whatever or whomever leads us to darkness," said a Christian writer.

You should not allow your relationship lead you into darkness. Get rid of or separate from your old way of living and fully grasp the ways of Christ.

Most often, unbelievers exhibit negative lifestyles and engage in all kinds of social vices which include - stealing, drug abuse, cheating, examination malpractices, immorality, violent attacks, bullying, lying, keeping malice, smoking, drinking, love for worldly music and movies.

Henry G. Bosch declared, "The Lord wants His people to keep themselves separated from the filth of this world at all cost." Be separate and disentangle yourself from worldly associations.

Quote: "Be separate"

Chɑllenge: "Disentangle yourself from worldly associations."

Prɑyer: "O God, help me to avoid unequal yoke"

A PURE HEART
TEXT: PSALM 24:1-5

"Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place? He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity..." (PSALM 24:3, 4).

The Greek word for "pure" as declared by Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount is "Katharos." It means to be "clean, blameless, and unstained from guilt." It also refers definitely to that which is purified by fire or by pruning. The heart, which in Greek is called "kardeeah," can be applied to the physical heart. It specifically also refers to the spiritual centre of life. It is where thoughts, desires, sense of purpose, will, understanding, and character reside. Therefore, to be pure in heart means to be blameless.

A Christian writer noted, "Being pure in heart involves having a singleness of heart toward God. A pure heart has no hypocrisy, no guile and no hidden motives. The pure heart is marked by transparency and an uncompromising desire to please God in all things..." Clean hands are free from evil deeds. The psalmist says, "Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me" (Psalm 51:10). God is the One who makes our hearts pure through the sacrifice of His Son and His sanctifying work on the cross.

Quote: "A pure heart has no hypocrisy"

Chɑllenge: "Let your motives be pure."

Prɑyer: "O God, create a pure heart in me"

STUDY SKILLS
TEXT: DANIEL 1:17-21

"As for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams" (DANIEL 1:17).

Do you ever wonder why you read and do not understand? You read, but your reading is not effective. This is because your study habit is not good enough. Just simply reading and re-reading your notebooks and even textbooks is not enough.

In our text, the four Hebrew children, Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego and Daniel had wisdom, knowledge and understanding. They were found ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers in Babylon. This is only possible because of God's favour upon them. You too can attract God's divine wisdom like these Hebrew children, if you seek God in prayers and please Him in all you do. You will become smarter and filled with wisdom, knowledge and understanding. Your memory needs to be activated; therefore, make connections with the concepts or topics you are reading; draw examples and use symbols related to the topics; figure out the answers to the problems you are trying to solve; try to memorise and master concepts; try to rewrite the points without looking at the note; and use questions to check-list what you have studied.

Quote: "You memory needs to be activated"

Chɑllenge: "You too can attract God's wisdom."

Prɑyer: "Lord, help me to study effectively"

PEER LEARNING
TEXT: DANIEL 1:1-7

"Children in whom was no blemish, but well favoured, and skilful in all wisdom, and cunning in knowledge, and understanding science, and such as had ability in them to stand in the king's palace, and whom they might teach the learning and the tongue of the Chaldeans" (DANIEL 1:4).

Peer learning is a student-centred learning process through student-led workshop, group discussion, peer-to-peer learning and group-centred activities, in order to attain educational goals. It offers opportunity for students to learn from one another. It is discovered that some students learn better when a fellow classmate explains a particular concept in a language they understand.

Our text reveals to us a group of youths who were trained in the learning and tongues of the Chaldeans. Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego excelled in all wisdom, knowledge and understanding, and even in Science. Why? In the battle for excellence, these four Hebrew children were passionate and purposeful in life. They worked hard as a team and were involved in peer learning so as to accomplish God's plan for their lives. Sometimes as students, you need to study in groups, discuss difficult concepts, ask questions and find answers to such questions from your peers who are good at such subjects. With these tips, you can demystify that difficult subject and top your class with high grades.

Quote: "Demystify that difficult subject"

Chɑllenge: "Be involved in group study."

Prɑyer: "Help me Lord, to take part in a good group study"
