SUBMISSION TO GOD'S WILL
TEXT: 1 Samuel 18:4

"And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was upon him, and gave it to David, and his garments, even to his sword, and to his bow, and to his girdle" (1 Samuel 18:4).

To find a true friend like Prince Jonathan who would forfeit his rightful position for an ordinary friend so that the will of God would be done is rare in every generation of mankind. The history of leadership in the world is full of people that overthrew and killed others to take over their positions. The action of Jonathan in our text today is a rare example of willful abdication and transfer of his right, royalty and future to David. Though King Saul was ready to do anything, including killing David for his son to succeed him as the King of Israel, Jonathan knew that it was not the will of God for him to become the king of Israel because God had anointed David, his friend, to replace his father.

The present world is highly competitive. Everybody wants to be on top by all means. The Church is also copying the world in the struggle for positions. But Jonathan chose to submit to the will of God like Jesus our Lord and Master. Are you doing God's will for your life? Be born again!

Chɑllenge: "God's will is the best."

Prɑyer: "Lord, God, let your will be done in my life, in Jesus name."

Quote: "Are you doing God's will for your life?"

WHEN YOUR CHANGE BEGINS
TEXT: 2 Corinthians 5:17

"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things have passed away; behold, all things are become new" (2 Corinthians 5:17).

A writer narrated a story about a publisher who made a mistake some years ago. According to him, a book had been in the market for years and needed to be revised. The author rewrote the book to update it. When the revised edition was published, the publisher gave the book a new cover but printed the text of the old edition inside. The exterior was new but the interior was old and outdated. This usually happens when some youths realise the need for change in their lives and frantically put on new exterior without making the needed change in their heart. This is self-deception.

Dear friend, genuine change begins when you surrender your life to Christ. The old sinful life dies and new life begins. Your school mates and neighbours would notice that you no more tell lies, get involved in immoral relationships or break parental or school rules and regulations. The Holy Spirit transforms your life, enabling you to love, obey and be committed to God. As you grow in faith, you will experience all-round blessings from God and make heaven at last.

Chɑllenge: "Your change begins when you give your life to Christ."

Prɑyer: "Help me Lord, God, to embrace Christ and live in newness of life."

Quote: "The Holy Spirit transforms your life."

LIVE IN GOD'S PRESENCE
TEXT: Psalm 89:15

"Blessed is the people that know the joyful sound: they shall walk, O Lord, in the light of thy countenance" (Psalm 89:15).

A seventeenth-century monk, Brother Lawrence, who worked as a cook in his community tried to live in God's presence. Before each day’s work, he prayed: "O my God … grant me your grace to stay in your presence. Help me in my labours. Possess all my affections." While working, he would talk to God, listen to His leading, dedicate his work to Him and ask for His grace at busy periods. He experienced God’s presence in every situation. What a challenge to all Christians!

Like Brother Lawrence, learn to live in God's presence daily in your studies, work, interpersonal relationships and leisure hours. As you do, whatever challenges you may experience, God will deliver you. A farmer cultivates his farm by applying various inputs in order to get a good harvest. A Christian also cultivates the presence of God to enjoy His presence. How is this done? First, you must abstain from all evil and guard your salvation and other Christian experiences jealously. Secondly, it involves prayer, Bible study and fellowship with other Christians. Child of God, stay close to your Father.

Chɑllenge: "Live daily with the consciousness of God's presence."

Prɑyer: "Lord, help me to live in your presence in every moment."

Quote: "Child of God, stay close to your Father."

GOD IS ABLE
TEXT: Daniel 3:17

"If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us out of thine hand, O king" (Daniel 3:17).

A miracle, someone says, is: "An event occurring in the natural world, observed by the senses, produced by divine power, without any adequate human or natural cause, the purpose of which is to reveal the will of God and to do good to man." This definition authenticates the miraculous deliverance of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, "… upon whose bodies the fire had no power" (Daniel 3:27). Our God is a miracle working God. He is able to deliver those who stand for Him like the three Hebrew young men.

No matter the hardship you are passing through, God is able to deliver you. But be sure you are His faithful child. He is always close and compassionate. When you obey and walk with God, your problems become gateways to experiencing His power. God can only be limited by your unbelief. In every situation, have faith in God and He will empower you to overcome.

Chɑllenge: "With God, you will sail through every life's storm."

Prɑyer: "Help me Lord, to obey you and stand for you in turbulent times."

Quote: "God can only be limited by your unbelief."

POLICING THE MOUTH PAYS
TEXT: Psalm 141:3

"Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips" (Psalm 141:3).

An unknown poet wrote: "A careless word may kindle strife; a cruel word may wreck a life. A bitter word may hate instill; a brutal word may smite and kill. A gracious word may smoothen the way; a joyous word may lighten the day. A timely word may lessen stress; a loving word may heal and bless." The Bible says: "Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing…" (James 3: 10). The mouth needs policing to help control the tongue. Is your mouth policed?

Dear friend, the words from your mouth reveal the state of your heart. According to C. T. Studd, "Whatever moves the heart wags the tongue." A depraved heart cannot utter edifying words. Christ in the heart tames the tongue. Is Christ in your heart? If not, receive Him now by confessing and forsaking your sins. He will give you a new heart, transformed life, and set a watch before your mouth and keep the door of your lips, so that you can speak edifying words to the glory of God.

Chɑllenge: "Be silent when you have nothing godly to say."

Prɑyer: "Help me Lord, to speak only edifying words."

Quote: "Speak edifying words."

GIVE THE FULL GOSPEL
TEXT: Acts 20:24

"But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify of the gospel of the grace of God" (Acts 20:24).

A story was told of a pastor posted to a youth church. He bombarded them with intellectual sermons. Soon he began to lose members. One day, he found a note on his pulpit with the message, "Preach Christ." Initially, he was furious but later realised that he had been preaching wrong messages to the congregation. He confessed to God and started preaching the simple message of Christ. This revived the congregation and brought back members who left. This was why C. H. Spurgeon wrote, "Let eloquence be flung to the dogs rather than souls be lost. What we want is to win souls. They are not won by flowery speeches."

Beloved, what message do you preach to fellow youths? Only the full and simple gospel message can save sinners. To preach successfully, you must know the Saviour, know your message, and know your audience and how to deliver the message to them. Preach Jesus to unbelieving youths, persuading them to forsake their sins and accept Him. Your life should point non-believers to Christ and you will receive the crown of soul winning.

Chɑllenge: "Preach the full gospel to the lost."

Prɑyer: "Lord, help me to preach the real gospel with zeal."

Quote: "Preach Jesus to unbelieving youths."

MORE THAN CONQUERORS
TEXT: Romans 8:31-39

"Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us" (Romans 8:37).

The Bible is replete with young people who were more than conquerors. David conquered Goliath of Gath. Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego defied Nebuchadnezzar. Joseph was more than a conqueror in Potiphar's house. The Disciples of Christ were more than conquerors over Satan and his agents through Christ. Jesus, our perfect example, conquered Satan, our arch enemy, at the cross. You too can be more than a conqueror. Be encouraged by this line of Charles Wesley which says: "Faith, mighty faith, the promise sees, and looks to that alone; laughs at impossibilities, and cries it shall be done."

Are you presently facing giants in your life? Are you having problems with your academics, finance, lecturers, fellow students or health? Do not despair or give up. God is able to deliver you if you repose absolute faith in Him for every challenge, including temptations. Remain faithful to Him and He will make you victorious over Satan and his agents.

Chɑllenge: "Live for God and you will be more than a conqueror."

Prɑyer: "Lord, make me a conqueror as I live for you."

Quote: "You too can be more than a conqueror."

TRUST IN GOD IN ALL THINGS
TEXT: Proverbs 3:5, 6

"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths" (Proverbs 3:5, 6).

The Scripture says: "But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him" (Hebrews 11:6). God expects us to have absolute faith in Him. This entails trusting His Word, character and track record of faithfulness. It is impossible to please Him if we do not trust Him. Let us read this faith exhortation of Samuel Rutherford, "Believe God's word more than you believe your own feelings and experiences." In whom do you trust?

If you are a child of God, trust in Him with all your heart. Do not be your own god. It is your faith in God that will see you through life's challenges. Our text counsels us to trust in God and acknowledge Him in all our ways. In times of persecutions, disappointments or academic problems, trust in God, remain faithful to Him, and you will experience divine intervention.

Chɑllenge: "Repose your trust in God and not in man."

Prɑyer: "Help me Lord, to trust you in all things."

Quote: "Do not be your own god."

LOVE NOT THE WORLD
TEXT: 1 John 2:1

"Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him" (1 John 2:1).

A story was told about a Christian girl who lost her salvation and other Christian experiences while in the university. She was the only child of her Christian parents. She was committed to her local church and was admired for her Christian virtues. On entering the university, she identified with the Christian fellowship. Shortly after, she mixed up with a notorious group of girls who thrived on worldliness and various forms of social vices. She ended up losing her salvation, other Christian experiences and a bright future. The worldly never think that they are until they are ruined. "Worldliness is what a particular culture does to make sin look normal and righteousness to look strange," said David Wells. You see the irony of the situation?

Whoever you are, the warning is, "Love not the world." Satan lures youths with money, cult, latest fashion, pornography, movies and worldly music. Do not be destroyed by the influence of bad friends. Steer clear of the world; stay with Christ, and live with heaven in view.

Chɑllenge: "If you are wise, let the world pass, lest you pass away with the world."

Prɑyer: "Dear Lord, grant me the grace to flee the world and its allurements."

Quote: "Steer clear of the world; stay with Christ."

NOTHING HIDDEN FROM GOD
TEXT: Hebrews 4:13

"Neither is there ɑny creɑture thɑt is not mɑnifest in His sight: but ɑll things ɑre nɑked ɑnd opened unto the eyes of Him with whom we hɑve to do" (Hebrews 4:13).

In this age of unprecedented information and technological development, people are conscious of bugging and monitoring devices. It is common to see residential houses and business establishments fortified with Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) camera to monitor sound, movement and activities of intruders. As effective as these devices are, criminals still get away with crimes. This is not so with God. No one gets away from the all-seeing eyes of the Almighty God.

The Scripture reveals that God is all-powerful, all-knowing and all-present. Nothing is hidden from Him. The couple, Ananias and Sapphire thought that their financial deal about the land they sold was only their family's top secret, but God saw it and revealed it to Apostle Peter. God watches over the saints to deliver them, but punishes sinners. Christians should be faithful to God and live a holy life, shining as light among peers and pointing them to Christ. If you are not a Christian, your sins are open before God, and you are heading for divine judgment and eternal destruction. Repent and receive Christ today to escape God's judgment.

Chɑllenge: "Be warned: God sees and knows every detail of your life."

Prɑyer: "Help me Lord God, to live righteously."

Quote: "God watches over the saints."

WALK IN WISDOM
TEXT: Ephesians 5:15-16

"See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, Redeeming the time, because the days are evil" (Ephesians 5:15, 16).

In the book of Proverbs we are admonished that: "Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding" (Proverbs 4:7). Walking in wisdom is mandatory for every Christian youth. As a Christian, be guided by wisdom in all you do. William Ward counsels: "Before you speak, listen; before you write, think; before you spend, earn; before you invest, investigate; before you criticize, wait; before you pray, forgive; before you quit, try; before you retire, save and before you die, give." This is lovely! A counsel that cuts across all age groups. Meditate on it and so may you walk in wisdom.

Our text advises that we should walk in wisdom in these evil days. No youth should walk carelessly like Dinah the daughter of Jacob, who got into trouble of immorality with a young prince. Rather, you should be prudent in all things. Take each step of your life with Jesus. Flee sinful associations and cling to God's word. Also, pray and share your faith with others. Jealously guard your salvation and God will help you to walk in wisdom.

Chɑllenge: "Walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise."

Prɑyer: "Dear Lord, please help me to walk in wisdom before you."

Quote: "Take each step of your life with Jesus."

WHOSE SON ARE YOU?
TEXT: Ephesians 5:15-16

"But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name" (John 1:12).

Commenting on 'Mistaken Identity,' a writer reported that Tibet operates the caste system. It is a system where one's birth determines ones status in society. People are born either as outcasts, priests or lower caste. After birth, it is impossible to move to another status. Biblically there are two kingdoms: the kingdom of God and the kingdom of Satan. Unlike the caste system in Tibet, you have the right to choose, and your choice determines whose son you are, either God's or Satan's. Whose son are you?

Our text asserts that as many as receive Christ, to them He gives power to become the sons of God. You are not a son/daughter of God without Christ as your Lord and Saviour. You can become God's child today if you confess your sins and receive Christ into your life. Thereafter, live a holy life and the blessings of God's kingdom will be yours.

Chɑllenge: "Surrender your life to Christ and become God's child."

Prɑyer: "Dear Lord, make me your child as I surrender my life to you."

Quote: "You can become God's child today."

DARE TO DO
TEXT: Philippians 4:13

"I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me" (Philippians 4:13).

A writer pointed out that; "One of Satan's strategies is making you feel incapable of accomplishing anything worthwhile. He'll remind you of your past mistakes so that your fear of failure will sabotage your effort Satan wants you to feel so bad that you'll have no confidence. You don't need confidence in yourself, but in God who lives within you."

Our text says that you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you. As a Christian youth, with Christ you can dare to do the impossible. He says: "…for without me ye can do nothing" (John 15:5). To do exploits, you must be consecrated to God like Bezaleel and Aholiab, whom God filled with His Spirit to accomplish engineering and technical works (Exodus 35:30-35). So commit your life to Christ, abide in Him, and He will infuse inner strength into you to do great things. Men and women like Jonathan Edward, Martin Luther, Catherine Khuman, and Billy Graham, who shook the world with the gospel, dared to do what God led them to do and were successful.

Chɑllenge: "With God you can do all things."

Prɑyer: "Dear Lord, infuse inner strength into my life to do impossible."

Quote: "With Christ, you can dare do."

I FORBID FOOLISHNESS
TEXT: Proverbs 15:5

"A fool despiseth his father's instruction: but he that regardeth reproof is prudent" (Proverbs 15:5).

Someone said that: "One of the maladies that is most incurable is folly. Most men are indeed born like the wild ass colt, but some by the grace of God after their encounters with Christ, are changed for the better. We cannot trust a fool for anything. Wise sayings lose their significance in the mouth of a fool. A sinner or a fool is likened to a loathsome dog that returns to its vomit" Are you wise or foolish? God forbids foolishness.

Our text says that a fool despises his/her father's instruction. Do you despise the instruction of your parents, teachers and Christian leaders? If you do, God says you are a fool, irrespective of your spiritual or academic status. It is a tragedy to be a fool without knowing it because foolishness breeds dishonour, failure, contempt and ignominy. The fool says there is no God. Quit foolishness today by surrendering your life to Christ, the wisdom of God, and He will make you wise.

Chɑllenge: "Quit foolishness today and embrace Christ."

Prɑyer: "Help me Lord, to abhor foolishness and walk in wisdom."

Quote: "Quit foolishness."

BRING TO GOD YOUR BEST
TEXT: Mark 12:41-44

"For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living" (Mark 12:44).

"The God from whom we seek the greatest things for life and eternity has right to the greatest things of our possession and wealth," says a writer. The lyrics of this song illustrate our topic: "Give of your best to the Master; Give of the strength of your youth… Give Him first place in your heart; Give Him first place in your service…Give Him your heart's adoration, Give Him the best that you have." Indeed God has right to our best. Are you ready to bring your best to God?

The widow in our text, out of her penury, gave her all to God. What a challenge? Beloved, do not withhold your best from God. Although our text focuses on financial giving, God also deserves the best of your time, talent, intellect, and other possessions. You are bringing your best to God if like Mary Slessor, T. L. Osborn and a host of others who served God from their youth, you dedicate your life to God's service today. Great will be your rewards in heaven if you do.

Chɑllenge: "Give to God the best that you have."

Prɑyer: "Help me Lord, to give my best to you."

Quote: "Surrender your heart and all to God."

GOD'S PROMISE TO HIS PEOPLE
TEXT: 1 John 2:25

"And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life" (1 John 2:25).

God's promise to those who believe in Him, including youths, is eternal life. One writer opined; "The dreams of most men do not transcend the observable earthly realm. Most people believe that everything on earth begins and ends here… Unknown to them, however, this present world is the genesis of eternity, which believers strive to conquer so as to enter into the realm of eternal bliss that the Saviour has gone to prepare for His own." Are you ready for eternity?

Beloved, eternity is real. It is either spent with Christ in heaven or Satan in hell. Only those who have surrendered to Christ and are faithfully living for Him will qualify for eternity with Christ in heaven. As a believer, remain faithful to God and live with eternity in view. If you have not received Christ, confess your sins today and admit Christ into your heart. He will transform your life and make you worthy of eternal life with Him in heaven.

Chɑllenge: "To qualify for heaven, you must give your life to Christ."

Prɑyer: "Help me Lord, to live with Heaven in view."

Quote: "God's promise is eternal life."

SERVING CHRIST UNKNOWINGLY
TEXT: Matthew 25:40

"And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me" (Matthew 25:40).

A story was told about Nelly, who cared for her house-bound mother-in-law, Joan. Nelly hated washing Joan's feet but did it grudgingly. One day, her attitude changed as she was washing Joan's feet and suddenly felt like she was washing the feet of Jesus Himself. Thereafter, she felt honoured to wash her mother in-law's feet. This is instructive for youths who grumble when serving others.

A call to salvation is a call to serve the Lord. When you serve others, you are serving Christ. With your limited resources, God expects you to feed the hungry, give water to the thirsty, assist the poor, welcome strangers and visit the sick. The needy are all around you. Any help you render to others is precious before God and will earn you the King's welcome to eternity. Don't be weary of well-doing.

Chɑllenge: "Seize every God-given opportunity to serve others."

Prɑyer: "Dear Lord, help me to serve others with joy, in Jesus name."

Quote: "Serving others is serving Christ."

HEADING AND TOPPING IN LIFE
TEXT: Deuteronomy 28:13

"And the Lord shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandment of the Lord thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them" (Deuteronomy 28:13).

In 2013, a 20-year-old Nigerian, Osareme Anita Omonuwa, bagged a first class degree in Law at Reading University, United Kingdom. Osareme also became the first black female to receive the Chancellor's award in 2012 for outstanding academic performance. The Chancellor described her as a "Representative of our brightest and best students." Osareme's performance is a good example of heading and topping in life, and a challenge to youths. This kind of top performance does not however come to the lazy. Osareme is not only intelligent but also hard working. A youth who wants to be at the top in education, career or Church ministry must be a hard worker.

Our text assures that youths who obey God's commandment will be head and above only. Are you obedient to God's commandments? Matthew Henry says: "Those that make the Word of God their rule, and consciously walk by that rule shall both do well and speed well." Consecrate your life to Christ and obey Him in all things. As you obey God and labour you will reach the top.

Chɑllenge: "Consecrate your life to God and excel."

Prɑyer: "Help me Lord, to obey your commandments and excel."

Quote: "You will reach the top."

ESCHEW LAZINESS
TEXT: Proverbs 12:24-27

"The slothful man roasteth not that which he took in hunting: but the substance of a diligent man is precious" (Proverbs 12:27).

Philip Stanhope counsels: "Know the value of time; snatch, seize, and enjoy every moment of it. No idleness, no laziness, no procrastination; never put off till tomorrow what you can do today." What a wise counsel to youths! Laziness, some say, is a disease only the victim can cure. A lazy youth is unproductive and unprogressive. He always looks for quick solutions to problems, such as examination malpractice to make up for his unpreparedness. Are you lazy?

Beloved of God, eschew laziness and escape failure. Attend your school lessons regularly and punctually; be serious with your studies. Do your assignments and projects, and submit promptly. Prepare for your tests and examinations on time, and you will make excellent results that can earn you a full scholarship in an institution of higher learning in your country or abroad. A lazy youth will end up in poverty and regret for failing to do things when necessary. Laziness is a gateway to social vices. However, God can help you out. Give your life to Christ if you have not, and you will be empowered.

Chɑllenge: "Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today."

Prɑyer: "Deliver me Lord, from the yoke of laziness."

Quote: "Laziness is a gateway to social vices."

PROSPERITY IN ADVERSITY
TEXT: Genesis 39:2-3

"And the Lord was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous manAnd his master saw that the Lord was with him, and that the Lord made all that he did to prosper in his hand" (Genesis 39:2,3).

A biology teacher taught his students the development of butterfly from caterpillar (or chrysalis) stage. He brought the cocoon to demonstrate the painful struggle needed to free the butterfly. He warned that they should not help it. In his absence, a student helped to free the butterfly out of pity, but it later died. The teacher explained that the butterfly died because it had not developed and strengthened its wings through painful struggles. The story shows that good things don't come easily.

Beloved, life is full of adversity. Joseph, in our text, experienced many adversities. He exercised patience, faith and fear of God and was prospered. You should have a positive attitude in bad times. Courageous people prosper in tough times. Conrad Hilton, the owner of a chain of international hotels, was busy buying more hotels during a recession in America, while others were selling theirs. That brought him prosperity later. Are you experiencing some challenges presently? Look up to Jesus. Don't give up. He understands your situation and will turn your adversity to prosperity.

Chɑllenge: "Focus on God in times of adversity, He will prosper you."

Prɑyer: "O Lord, give me grace to endure in times of adversity."

Quote: "Look up to Jesus! Don't give up."

FLEE THE WAY OF DEATH
TEXT: Proverbs 16:25

"There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death" (Proverbs 16:25).

Marilyn Hickey stated that, "When Satan tempted the very first man, Adam, to sin, his goal was to bring forth death. There are actually three kinds of death: spiritual, physical and eternal." The primary cause of death is sin. However, many ways can lead to death today; there are physical, spiritual and emotional causes. These causes of death are also interrelated. For example, when Amnon, the son of King David lusted after Tamar, his half-sister, it was a spiritual problem. Then, it affected him emotionally to the extent that he could not eat. From that point it started affecting him physically - he began to grow lean. Physical death was near.

Our text warns against taking the ways of death. Avoid taking unguided decisions concerning your life. Travelling abroad through illegal routes can be fatal. Going into sin is deadly. Accept godly counsels from your parents, teachers and Christian leaders. Be guided by God's word and will. Pray for every step you want to take in your academics, career and relationships. Let God keep you from the way of death.

Chɑllenge: "Be receptive to godly counsels to flee the way of death."

Prɑyer: "Help me Lord, to flee the way of death."

Quote: "Going into sin is deadly."

GOD WILL SUPPLY YOUR NEEDS
TEXT: Philippians 4:19

"But my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:19).

Someone wrote: "Outside my office window, the squirrels are in a race against winter to bury their acorns in a safe, accessible place. An entire herd of deer can go through our backyard and not make a sound, but one squirrel sounds like an invasion. The two creatures are different in another way. Deer do not prepare for winter. When the snow comes, they eat whatever they can find. Squirrels would starve if they followed that example." God uses different ways to meet the needs of His creatures, including youths.

God supplies our needs by enabling us to work and earn money. He also uses other people to meet our needs. As a youth, God has given you opportunity to gain knowledge/skill. Be diligent and faithful in your studies/apprenticeship so that you will be successful with a great future. Commit your life to God, be faithful to Him and rely on His promises. Your needs cannot exceed God's riches.

Chɑllenge: "Don't doubt God's faithfulness to meet your needs."

Prɑyer: "Dear Lord, help me to rely on your faithfulness to meet my needs."

Quote: "Your needs can not exceed God's riches."

WISDOM BREEDS PROMOTION
TEXT: 1 Samuel 18:5

"And David went out whithersoever Saul sent him, and behaved himself wisely: and Saul set him over the men of war, and he was accepted in the sight of all the people, and also in the sight of Saul's servants" (1 Samuel 18:5).

The Bible is replete with young men who lived in wisdom and were promoted to positions of authority. Our text cites David as one of such men. He behaved himself wisely before King Saul which earned him favour and promotion. Daniel was promoted above the Presidents and Princes because he had an excellent spirit (wisdom). Someone wrote: "True wisdom is the secret of successful living here on earth and also having eternal life…" Are you wise?

True wisdom breeds promotion. It helps one to know what to say or do at the right time and in the proper way. It is acquired through first, reverential fear of God. Second, by personal life experience. Third, by the experiences of others, including: reading widely, researching, and listening to good counsels. Surrender to Christ today and gain access to the Holy Spirit who is the best teacher and he will empower you to live in wisdom before all men. God's wisdom will keep you in the path of righteousness and promote you above your equals. Ask God for wisdom today (James 1:5).

Chɑllenge: "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: so, fear God."

Prɑyer: "Dear Lord, please help me to live my life in wisdom."

Quote: "Ask God for wisdom."

EFFECTIVE STUDY TIME TABLE
TEXT: Ecclesiastes 3:1

"To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven" (Ecclesiastes 3:1).

An adage says: "Time and tide wait for no man." Time trickles away into oblivion. Unutilized time is irrecoverable, irreversible and irreplaceable. W. Clement Stone observed that: "Time is the most important ingredient in every successful formula of human activity. Save time. Invest it wisely." God, the Creator, worked within set time limits to teach us how to apportion our time to our duties. We should as much as possible avoid overwork just as we advise against idleness. Someone also stated, "Behind any meaningful achievement is proper time management and time allotment to competing opportunities."

Our text states that there is a season for everything and time for every purpose. To utilize your time maximally and achieve your goals, prepare an effective time table. Read your books and do your assignments on time. The Lord Jesus was time conscious in His earthly ministry. He said, "I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day…" (John 9:4). Avoid procrastination and time wastage on irrelevant matters. Embrace Christ as your Lord and Saviour today and follow His steps.

Chɑllenge: "To excel: prepare an effective study time table."

Prɑyer: "Help me Lord, to be diligent in the management of my time."

Quote: "Prepare an effective time table."

STUDY GROUP DYNAMICS
TEXT: Genesis 11:4

"And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth" (Genesis 11:4).

Someone shared an experience of study group dynamics in a university. The group's goal was academic excellence. They scheduled days and times of meeting and prayed before and after each meeting. Members were committed to the group. They made sure that each group member followed the study plan. There was commitment of all to the group. At the end of the course, each member excelled. What an example of a positive study group dynamics!

In our text, the group dynamics was to achieve ungodly goal. God will not honour a study group with ungodly goals. As a Christian youth, choose your study group prayerfully. Choose a group with people of like precious faith whose goals focus on academic, spiritual and moral excellence. Members must be ready to learn and impart knowledge to others. Contribute positively during your study group activities. Uphold your faith; share the gospel with members, and you will achieve excellence.

Chɑllenge: "Contribute positively during your study group activities."

Prɑyer: "Help me Lord, to choose a study group with godly goals."

Quote: "Choose your study group prayerfully."

PRESCRIPTION FOR PERFECTION
TEXT: 1 Timothy 4:12

"Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity" (1 Timothy 4:12).

After many years of walking with God, Abraham was told by Him, "I am the Almighty God; walk before me and be thou perfect" (Genesis 17:1). There was no Bible study syllabus to follow but he made it. Today we have the full Bible as our guide in the holy walk. The lyrics of this hymn, "Let Others See Jesus in You," seem to reflect our text of today and the requirement for perfection:

"While passing thro' this world of sin.
And others your life shall view,
Be clean and pure without, within.
Let others see Jesus in you.

Your life's a book before their eyes.
They're reading it thro' and thro';
Say, does it point them to the skies.
Do others see Jesus in you?"

Fellow pilgrim, do others see Jesus in you? God's word is the prescription for perfection. Study, meditate on and obey God's word. Preach the gospel and be a light to unbelieving youths, pointing them to Christ.

Chɑllenge: "Study and obey God's word for your perfection."

Prɑyer: "Help me Lord, to be an example of believers."

Quote: "God's word is the prescription for perfection."

NOT OF THE WORLD
TEXT: John 17:16

"They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world" (John 17:16).

An author wrote: "There is perversion in the world. Globally, moral decadence is the order of the day. It is a world of popularity without principle, pleasure without perspiration, wealth without work, certificate without character, business without integrity, riches without righteousness, power without purity, science without sanity, and greatness at any expense." Isn't this a true description of the present world? In our text, Christ says His disciples, by extension all Christians, are not of the world. Are you separated from the world?

Dear friend, Christ says you are not of the world. Living a worldly life dishonours God. Jesus declared that He was not of the world and He lived true to that assertion. Like Christ, live above the world in your aspirations, behaviour, dressing, relationship, social life, moral standard, and every area of your life. Glow for Christ at home, in your community, before fellow youths and your teachers, thus revealing Christ to the lost and winning them to the kingdom.

Chɑllenge: "Compromise with the world will exclude you from heaven."

Prɑyer: "Help me Lord, to live above the defilement of the world."

Quote: "Glow for Christ."

LIFTING UP HOLY HANDS
TEXT: 1 Timothy 2:8

"I will therefore that men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting" (1 Timothy 2:8).

There was a dynamic youth loved by all in his church. He was a member of the choir, played organ and led the congregation in praise worship sessions. Whenever he led, the old and young spontaneously lifted up their hands in worship. However, the pastor later discovered that he also played worldly music for entertainment houses. The Pastor confronted him with the finding and he admitted that he was not born-again. The pastor ministered to him. He gave his life to Christ and became a new man with fresh anointing. There are many youths out there playing music for money in Churches, yet unsaved. Are you genuinely saved?

The Bible says: "God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth" (John 4:24). To lift up holy hands in worship, you must be saved. If you are not, confess your sins today, admit Christ into your life and live for Him. Only then can you lift up holy hands to worship God acceptably.

Chɑllenge: "You must be holy to render acceptable worship to God."

Prɑyer: "Cleanse me Lord, from all my sins and make me holy."

Quote: "Worship God in spirit and truth."
