HOW TO BE TRULY HAPPY
TEXT: PSALM 146:1-10

"Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the LORD his God" (PSALM 146:5).

Many people in life run from pillar to post in search of help and happiness due to the overwhelming challenges of life. Sadly, their search for happiness in this sinful world that could be likened to a sea of gloom has led many of them into regrets and pains.

Take note that academic success, hobbies, social groups, friends, and family members cannot give you true happiness. King Solomon had more wisdom, money, opportunities and pleasure than anyone could imagine, yet, his conclusion was: "Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man" (Ecclesiastes 12:13).

To be truly happy as a youth, choose and chase godliness by walking with God; and following His steps and commandments (Joshua 1:8).

When your heart is filled with sin, there will be no room for God; and without God, we are destined for unhappiness and condemnation. Create space for God in your heart through genuine repentance for your sins. Accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour; and He will grant you true happiness in this life and in eternity.

Quote: "Choose and chase godliness"

Chɑllenge: "Seek help from God."

Prɑyer: "Heavenly Father, take over my life and grant me happiness"

LEARN MORE TO KNOW MORE
TEXT: PROVERBS 1:1-6

"A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels" (PROVERBS 1:5).

Eric Hoffer said, "In a time of drastic change, it is learners who inherit the future. The learned usually find themselves equipped to live in a world that no longer exists."

Have you ever imagined the power at your disposal when you have knowledge? Knowledge is powerful when acquired and used in the right way. It takes away the disease of ignorance and opens the door to great opportunities. Men of knowledge are men of power and influence.

The more you learn, the more you know; and the more you know, the more your chances of success in life. Even the scriptures reveal that knowledge of the truth, makes us free. Freedom from sin, failure, ignorance and disease is embedded in the knowledge of the word of God.
If there is any desire or craving in your heart today, it should be the desire to know more, which comes with learning.

Take a deliberate action to learn about God to discover His redemptive plan through Christ. Knowledge about God's redemptive plan should provoke repentance and righteousness to be profitable, and not mere head knowledge.

Quote: "Knowledge is sweet when acquired"

Chɑllenge: "Men of knowledge are men of power."

Prɑyer: "Lord, create in me the passion to learn and know more"

LEARN YOUR LANGUAGE
TEXT: GENESIS 11:1-9

"And their children spake half in the speech of Ashdod, and could not speak in the Jews’ language, but according to the language of each people" (NEHEMIAH 13:24).

Oliver Wendell Holmes opines that, "Language is the blood of the soul into which thoughts run and out of which they grow." The premium placed on language underscores its usefulness for the enhancement of communication for many generations.

Languages put our words in focus, give structure to our thoughts and help us to communicate with the people around us. They are fluid concepts, built from our heritage for a better reconstruction of our past and re-engineering of our future.

Speaking your language breeds motivation, unity and a sense of belonging. This was evident in our text as the people were determined to finish the construction of the tower. "And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language..." (Genesis 11:6).

It is therefore imperative on the young ones to learn the language of their parents and be attentive to the commandment of God. You must be careful not to use the power of language to fight against God's will as seen in our text, but skilfully use it to propagate the gospel of Jesus Christ, our Lord.

Quote: "Skilfully use it to propagate the gospel"

Chɑllenge: "Language is power."

Prɑyer: "O Lord, help me to understand the language of my nativity"

MOTHERS ARE GOD'S MARVELS
TEXT: PSALM 128:1-6

"Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of thine house: thy children like olive plants round about thy table" (PSALM 128:3).

In 1952, when Korea was in the throes of civil war, a young pregnant woman who was due to be delivered of a child, asked for help from passers-by, and no one could help her. She heard of a missionary living nearby who could render help. She then decided to go there even though it was a period of cold and snow.

On her way, the pain became unbearable, and the baby was already coming out. She took shelter under a bridge and gave birth to a baby boy on Christmas day. She took off her clothes, wrapped the baby and held him close in her arms.

The next day, the missionary was distributing Christmas packages and passing by, he heard the cry of a baby and traced him, only to discover the mother was frozen to death still holding her baby. The missionary saved the baby.

Mothers are really blessings from God. Their roles begin from conception and end at death. Their job begins early in the morning and ends late at night. Hence, you should appreciate and obey your mother.

Quote: "Appreciate and obey your mother"

Chɑllenge: "Honour your mother."

Prɑyer: "Lord, help me to appreciate and respect my mum"

AMAZING ETERNAL ABODE
TEXT: REVELATION 21:1-7

"And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea" (REVELATION 21:1).

Our text underscores the vision of a new heaven and a new earth as seen by Apostle John. The passing away of the old world of trouble and commotion shall pave way for the new world.

There is a world to come which is a better country, a heavenly city, prepared for the redeemed and overcomers. A place that is devoid of tears and sorrow but characterized by eternal joy and gladness. A world where no one grows old or dies.

The glories, beautiful edifices, trending fashion of this present world will melt with fervent heat. Christian youths are therefore admonished to lay up their treasures in heaven and to endure the present pain and predicament because they are 'light affliction' and will certainly pass away with the old world.

We must fix our eyes on Jesus and hold on to His promises as they are 'true and faithful'. Sin, no matter how infinitesimal, will hinder anyone from experiencing the new world. God's river of salvation still flows today. Therefore, drink from it freely to be prepared for the glories of heaven.

Quote: "We must fix our eyes on Jesus"

Chɑllenge: "Endure your present light afflictions."

Prɑyer: "Lord, prepare me for the supernal heaven"

PARDONED TO LIVE PURE
TEXT: JOHN 8:1-11

"She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more" (JOHN 8:11).

Late Dr. Adam Clarke in his book, Christian Holiness, said, "God made man in that degree of perfection which was pleasing to His own infinite wisdom and goodness. Sin must have no triumph and the Redeemer of mankind must have His glory."

The woman in our text was caught in the very act of immorality that can pollute the hearts and lives of sinful boys and girls. Her coming face to face with Christ the Redeemer opened the door for her salvation from sin and untimely death. Jesus charged her to sin no more after saving her from sin.

Sin must not reign in the life of any genuinely born again youth. Youths are enjoined to constantly read the word of God and pray for entire sanctification of heart until they experience it. Purity of life brings us into the original state God expects of man.

We are to remain unspotted from the world at all times. If you profess to be born again and still commit sin, it means you are not saved yet, and you need genuine salvation from God through prayer of faith.

Quote: "We are to remain unspotted"

Chɑllenge: "Be ye holy, for I am holy."

Prɑyer: "O Lord, grant me genuine salvation from sin"

POSITION YOURSELF FOR PROMOTION
TEXT: PSALM 75:4-7

"For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. But God is the judge: He putteth down one, and setteth up another" (PSALM 75:6, 7).

Everyone desires promotion, but only those who seek it by paying the price will find it. For students, it is in the form of successful completion of their education with good grades; and for those learning a trade (apprenticeship), it is the successful completion of their chosen trade.

Youths who are desirous of promotion must be diligent, resistant to obstacles or hindrances to success, and severed from addiction to television programmes, electronic games and social media. Besides, those who want promotion must go the extra mile through regular study, and not waiting till the examination timetable is released.

Above all, there is always a God-factor for all excellent and God-glorifying promotions since genuine promotion or good success only comes from God. Therefore, a youth who seeks promotion must be connected to Him through genuine repentance from sin by accepting Jesus as Lord and Saviour, and maintaining a consistent walk with Him.

Take note that youths who attempt to get promotions through examination malpractices or through other sharp practices will surely incur God's wrath here on earth and in eternity go through anguish, pains and regrets.

Quote: "Go the extra mile"

Chɑllenge: "Be diligent and focused on your pursuit."

Prɑyer: "Lord, crown my efforts with good success in Jesus Name"

RESIST THE DARING DEVOURER
TEXT: 1 PETER 5:6-11

"Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour" (1 PETER 5:8).

The text under consideration outlines basic duties of the believer. He is called unto submission, humility, vigilance, faith, total dependence on God and sobriety. God is on the side of the humble to give him or her grace and spiritual uplift in every battle of life.

Every youth believer should know that he or she is in a constant war with the devil. The devil is like a roaring cruel lion looking for ways to devour unsuspecting youths. His strategy is to attack standing and faithful children of God through persecution, trials, temptations and challenges of life.

If you would overcome Satan, the tempter and accuser, you must resist him steadfastly in the faith. Resisting the devil means fighting manfully against his allurements to commit sins like fornication, pornography, and disrespect for parents and constituted authority in the school or the society.

You need to trust in the grace of God to keep you to the end. Remember, you must be a born again child of God to be able to conquer the devil.

Quote: "You must resist him"

Chɑllenge: "We are called to battle."

Prɑyer: "Help me Lord to stand"

RESPECT FOR ELDERS
TEXT: 2 KINGS 2:23-25

"For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death" (MATTHEW 15:4).

It is said of a very prominent rich man in Nigeria how he respectfully gave up his seat with that of his assistant to a man of God who needed it desperately in an aircraft even though he was from another religion. This little act of kind gesture is believed to be the very foundation and secret of his wealth today in line with the prophecy of the man of God.

Honouring father and mother as the scriptures commands is not limited to your biological or spiritual parents; it concerns all elders. Our Lord expects us to show respect for all elders to prove we are His children.

Many youths today have missed great opportunities because of disrespect for elders. Greeting elders, helping them to carry their loads, standing up for them to take your seat in public vehicles and more, are all forms of respect that is needed from a growing youth.

As you go out today, remember the Lord is expecting you to show elders around you respect as a sign that you are His own and different from wayward children.

Quote: "Our Lord expects us to show respect"

Chɑllenge: "It pays to respect parents."

Prɑyer: "Lord, help me not to despise elders in any way"

REVIVE US AGAIN
TEXT: PSALM 85:1-10

"Wilt thou not revive us again: that thy people may rejoice in thee?" (PSALM 85:6).

"Revival is the visitation of God which brings to life Christians who have been sleeping and restore a deep sense of God's near presence and holiness," submitted J. I. Packer.

Reminiscing on God's past manifestations to His people and comparing these to the present regrettable conditions, we cannot but agree with the Psalmist's lamentable cry to God: "Wilt thou not revive us again?"

Looking at the present deplorable spiritual conditions in contrast to the fervency that characterised the lives of many youths when they first got converted, you would know that they need a revival.

For revival to occur, there must be a realisation of the need of revival, recognition of God as the Source of revival, removal of the obstacles to revival and resort to prayer for revival. Revival has its vital signs when it is in place.

According to Steve Camp, "Prayer is the burden of revival; repentance is the breakthrough of revival; evangelism is the blessing of revival; holiness is the bounty of revival." Do you not think you need a revival?

Quote: "You need a revival"

Chɑllenge: "There is a price to pay for revival."

Prɑyer: "Lord, revive me again"

SAINTS DO NOT SIN!
TEXT: 1 JOHN 5:18-21

"We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not" (1 JOHN 5:18).

"Sinning saint," what a contradiction! There are many so-called born-again youths who still live in sin with the belief that no man can be a saint while on earth.

But the passage above reveals that a true child of God is called out of the world of sin and does not commit sin. He has been made a new creature in Christ; the old lifestyle of sin is gone. The indisputable evidence of being a child of God is freedom from sin because God imparts His own nature to him or her.

God has produced a good number of saints both in Bible times and in our contemporary times - people like Enoch, Joseph, Elizabeth, Mary, Paul and a host of others.

It is the will of God for us to live an overcoming life over sin. Hence, He gave us great and precious promises that we might be partakers of His divine nature.

God still gives power and grace today to those who seek Him, for He says, "Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled."

Quote: "God imparts His own nature"

Chɑllenge: "Enoch pleased God; you can too!"

SERVING LIKE THE MASTER
TEXT: JOHN 13:1-8

"After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded" (JOHN 13:5).

Feet washing among the Jews was a task that only the lowest servants would do. In fact, the Jewish people would require Gentile servants to do this, not Jewish ones.

The text depicts the exemplary life of Jesus as He stooped low to wash the feet of His disciples. This is the highest form of humility, care and love as epitomized by Christ. God demands that all His children pattern their lives after the humility of Christ as a sign that they are disciples indeed.

Furthermore, Christ taught His disciples with authority and power, and not as the scribes. This tells us that we should serve the body of Christ with the resources He has deposited in our lives.

Some of us are gifted singers; have strength to clean the place of worship, work as ushers, visit the brethren to lift up the discouraged, provide food or support for the weak, and so on.

However, serving God and the brethren should come after conversion; otherwise, your service will be in vain and unprofitable. Thus, it is salvation before service.

Quote: "Serve the body of Christ"

Chɑllenge: "The servant is not greater than the master!"

Prɑyer: "Lord, help me to walk with You in humility"

SINFUL FRIENDSHIP ENDS IN SORROW
TEXT: NUMBERS 25:5-15

"And he went after the man of Israel into the tent, and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel, and the woman through her belly. So the plague was stayed from the children of Israel" (NUMBERS 25:8).

A young lady who was attacked on Valentine's Day by some ladies who accused her of snatching someone's boyfriend, bled to death as a result of the injury inflicted on her.

The girls involved in this incident were said to be under 18, and had been friends for years. Yet, these friends chose to end her life with razor blade deep cuts. The incident put an abrupt end to somebody's life and left others in deplorable states of emotional torments, having killed a friend.

In our text, the children of Israel had established immoral and idolatrous affinity with Moab, a heathen and enemy nation which attracted God's severe wrath resulting in the loss of about 24,000 lives.

In the midst of this chaos, Zimri, a Jew, went into an immoral act with Cozbi, a Midianite lady, right in the congregation of the children of Israel who were weeping before the Lord. This act led to the premature death and eternal perdition of these sin partners as Phinehas thrusted their bellies through with a javelin. Alas! What a sinful friendship that ended in tragedy. Beware!

THE SAVIOUR HEALS THE SICK
TEXT: MATTHEW 4:23-25

"And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people" (MATTHEW 4:23).

On the 13th of May, 1992, Pope John Paul II who had been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease a year earlier, instituted the "World Day of the Sick" and it is commemorated annually on the 11th of February. The day is dedicated to praying and caring for the sick.

As revealed in our text, Jesus Christ demonstrated His care for the sick by healing all manner of sicknesses and diseases among the people as He went about doing good things and delivering all that were oppressed by the devil during His earthly ministry.

Christ's power to heal is still the same today; and He is still the answer for a world that is ravaged by pandemics and all forms of life-threatening diseases. He is the greatest Physician who willingly bore our sicknesses in His body on the the cross, and paid the ultimate price for our health.

But remember that sin opens the door for sickness to afflict all sinners, including youths. Only repentance and faith in Christ can guarantee your permanent healing and health. He will surely heal you as you trust in Him today.

SLUGGARD STUDENTS
TEXT: PROVERBS 20:4-7

"The sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold; therefore shall he beg in harvest, and have nothing" (PROVERBS 20:4).

Who do you think a sluggard is? A sluggard is a person who is habitually inactive or lazy. A synonym for sluggard in the Bible is slothful. They both come from the same Hebrew root word 'atsluoth', from which some believe we get the English word 'Sloth', which literally means to 'lean idly'.

Bob Russell, among other things, identifies that a sluggard can't get started in the morning; seldom finishes anything; is full of excuses; seems to get a lot of bad breaks; and is full of unrealistic dreams.

Do you always have a reason for your inaction, for postponing your salvation or making your pending restitutions? Do you drag your feet in turning in your class assignments? If these characteristics define your life, you are a sluggard and need to wake up.

The slothful are failures in life; and a good number of them are failures spiritually and could end up in eternal regrets. The way out for the lazy or sluggard is to have a to-do-list and prayerfully follow it meticulously. Avoid procrastination!

Quote: "The slothful are failures in life."

Chɑllenge: "Avoid procrastination!"

Prɑyer: "Dear Lord, deliver me from the spirit of laziness"

LESSON SEVEN
THE BIRTH OF ISAAC, HEIR OF PROMISE

MEMORY VERSE:

"And the LORD visited Sarah as he had said, and the LORD did unto Sarah as he had spoken. For Sarah conceived, and bare Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him" (Genesis 21:1,2).

TEXT: Genesis 21:1-34

God called Abraham for the purpose of being a channel of blessing to the whole world. In the call, He promised that "in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed" (Genesis 12:3). God planned to raise through Abraham, a nation that would know and keep His ways. From his family would come forth a chosen people through whom Jesus Christ, the promised Seed of the woman would emerge (Genesis 3:15; Galatians 3:8, 16,18). To fulfil God's promise, Abraham needed to have a son. But Sarah, his wife, was barren for more than twenty years. At a point, Abraham seemed to have lost hope about the fulfilment of the promise. "And Abram said, Behold, to me thou hast given no seed: and, 10, one born in my house is mine heir" (Genesis 15:3). He was in doubt whether the seed God had promised should be a son of his loins or a son in his house. But the Lord cleared his doubt and assured him that the heir to his house would come (Genesis 15:4). In spite of this assurance, Abraham accepted Sarah's suggestion to take Hagar, their Egyptian handmaid, and go in to her (Genesis 16:1-3). Abraham fell into the temptation and its consequences still remain with us today. It takes a resolute faith and strong conviction to know when a suggestion is from an enemy and to reject it. Children of God should be wary of ungodly counsels, pressures from parents or friends and stand resolutely with the word of God. They should wait patiently for the Lord to fulfil the promises He has made to them. The text under consideration shows that, no matter how long it takes for God to fulfil His promise, in due time, it will come. "For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself, And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise" (Hebrews 6: 13, 15). God's promises are true and reliable, regardless of any opposing circumstances.

BIRTH OF ISAAC IN FULFILMENT OF GOD'S PROMISE (Genesis 21:1-8; 17:17; 18:10-14; Romans 4:19-21; 2 Corinthians 1:20; Luke 1:37)

Isaac was the promised heir born to Abraham and Sarah when they were very old in fulfilment of God's promise. Abraham was 100 years old while Sarah was 90 years. "And the LORD visited Sarah as he had said, and the LORD did unto Sarah as he had spoken" (Genesis 21:1). Once God has promised, He will surely fulfil it, no matter the delay. It is often said that "God's delays are His appointments". Therefore, believers should see delays in getting married, childbearing, securing a dream employment, financial breakthrough and healing, among others, as stepping stones to wonderful testimonies that would bring glory to God. Abraham named his child whom Sarah bore to him Isaac, meaning laughter because "...God hath made me to laugh, so that all that hear will laugh with me" (Genesis 21:6), said Sarah. Though the couple had laughed as a result of doubt, God, at last had turned their laughter of doubt to joy (Psalm 126:1-3; Job 8:20,21). Christians should always rest upon God's promises and not be swayed by contrary opinions of men. The New Testament made reference to the faith of Abraham, who "...being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sarah's womb: He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform" (Romans 4:19-21). In line with his covenant with God, Abraham circumcised Isaac on the eighth day. Flesh circumcision was a token of the Abrahamic covenant. No matter how difficult and painful to the flesh, believers should learn to obey God.

THE BONDWOMAN AND HER SON SENT AWAY (Genesis 21:9-21; 25:1-3,5,6; Galatians 4:22,23,25,28-30; Mark 12:6-9)

Ishmael, Abraham's first son through Hagar, was fourteen years older than Isaac (Genesis 16: 16) and the only heir apparent until Isaac came. After Isaac was weaned, probably at age three according to Jewish culture, "...Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, which she had born unto Abraham, mocking. Wherefore she said unto Abraham, Cast out this bondwoman and her son: for the son of this bondwoman shall not be heir with my son, even with Isaac" (Genesis 21:9, 10). Sarah's stance at this time must not be mistaken for the cruel jealousy of a woman who did not want a rival. The point is, Ishmael was persecuting Isaac, the child of promise; and that amounted to an opposition to the covenant God made with Abraham. The New Testament sheds light on this in Galatians 4:22-30. "And the thing was very grievous in Abraham's sight because of his son. And God said unto Abraham, Let it not be grievous in thy sight because of the lad; and because of thy bondwoman; in all that Sarah hath said unto thee, hearken unto her voice; for in Isaac shall thy seed be called" (Genesis 21:11, 12). God sanctioned Sarah's demand to send Hagar and her son away, though it was grievous in Abraham's sight. Ishmael was sent away in order to fulfil the promise God made concerning Isaac: "...for in Isaac shall thy seed be called" (Genesis 21:12). Abraham obeyed the Lord speedily and sent them away with provisions for their journey, as much as they would need, until they reached the next well or oasis. Believers should learn from Abraham's attitude of prompt obedience to God's command (Genesis 21:14; 22:3). As Hagar and Ishmael travelled, the water they took got exhausted, Ishmael fainted under the hot desert sun and Hagar abandoned him in despair. But "God heard the voice of the lad; and the angel of God called to Hagar out of heaven, and said unto her, What aileth thee, Hagar? fear not; for God hath heard the voice of the lad where he is" (Genesis 21:17). The Lord is benevolent towards all the inhabitants on the face of the earth. Despite the fact that Ishmael was born outside the divine covenant God made with Abraham, He still took care of him. This shows that God cares for all His creatures on earth, especially man that was created in His image. Moreover, He is not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9). Christ died for the whole world; and all that come to God through Him will be saved. Hagar was ignorant of God's care and concern for her and the young lad. While she despaired and hoped that they would both die of hunger and thirst, "God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water; and she went, and filled the bottle with water, and gave the lad drink' (Genesis 21:19). The Lord was with them and protected them from all dangers in the wilderness. There is always solution to man's problem no matter the condition and situation we find ourselves.

BEERSHEBA COVENANT BETWEEN ABRAHAM AND ABIMELECH (Genesis 21:22-34; Psalm 86: 17; Hebrews 12:14; Matthew 18:15)

"And it came to pass at that time, that Abimelech and Phichol the chief captain of his host spake unto Abraham, saying, God is with thee in all that thou doest" (Genesis 21:22). Abraham's favoured disposition is traceable to his decision to forsake the idols of his fathers and cleave to the God of heaven whom he had served with deep devotion. The testimony of Abimelech and Phichol is a confirmation of God's promise to protect preserve and defend him wherever he went. "And I bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed" (Genesis 12:3). It is no wonder that even the heathen perceived the divine presence with him. There are important lessons from the covenant between Abimelech and Abraham. One, it was a reflection of God's favour. God sometimes shows His people tokens for good that their neighbours cannot but take notice of (Psalm 86:17). Two, it is good to be in favour with those that are in favour with God. "...We will go with you, for we have heard that God is with you" (Zechariah 8:23). We do well for ourselves if we have fellowship with those that have fellowship with God. Abraham and Abimelech proposed that there should be a firm and constant friendship between the two families, which should not be violated. This bond of friendship must be strengthened by the bond of an oath, in which God was appealed to, both as a witness of their sincerity and an avenger in case either side were treacherous (Genesis 21:23). Three, Abimelech requested that the covenant should extend to his people and posterity. Good men should secure alliance and communion with the favourites of heaven, not for themselves only. Abraham was ready to enter into a covenant with Abimelech after finding him to be a man of honour, good conscience and one who fears God (Genesis 21:24). It is however necessary to note that New Testament believers are to be careful of going into covenant relationships with others to avoid unequal yoke. Abraham prudently settled the matter concerning the well about which Abimelech's servants had quarrelled with him (Genesis 21:25). What an instructive lesson to believers that when our brother trespasses against us, we should settle the rift with meekness of wisdom (Matthew 18:15). Abraham accepted Abimelech's exoneration of himself in this matter: "...1 wot not who hath done this thing" (Genesis 21:26). Many are wrongly suspected of injustice and unkindness who were innocent of the act, and we ought to accept when they clear themselves. The faults of servants should not be imputed to their masters unless they know and justify them. Satan-motivated misunderstanding among brethren can be settled with love and humility. When a similar event happened between Abraham and Lot his brother, he settled it with maturity devoid of covetousness (Genesis 13:7-9). The strife that would have probably ended in battle against each other turned to a covenant relationship that brought joy to their generations. God calls us to "Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord" (Hebrews 12:14). Abraham took care to have his title to the well cleared and confirmed to prevent any disputes or quarrels in the future. He presented to Abimelech that which was valuable and useful — sheep and oxen — in gratitude for his kindness and hospitality as a token of a hearty friendship (Genesis 21:27). Eventually, they ratified the covenant by an oath and registered it by giving a new name to the place — Beersheba, the well of the oath — in remembrance of the covenant (Genesis 21 :31). Believers should always remember that they are in covenant relationship with God. Being conscious of this, they should live soberly, righteously and godly in this present world.

Questions for review:

1. What should be a believer's attitude to different suggestions in time of pressing needs and problems?
2. What can a Christian learn from the fulfilment of the promised son to Abraham?
3. Why was it necessary for Abraham to send Hagar and Ishmael away?
4. What can we learn from Abraham's obedience to the Lord though it was grievous?
5. What should be our role as brethren in the church when there is strife or misunderstanding?
6. What can we learn from Abraham's attitude of peaceful co-existence?
7. What can believers learn from the covenant between Abraham and Abimelech?

THE LAKE OF FIRE
TEXT: REVELATION 20:11-15

"And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire" (REVELATION 20:15).

When a judge slams the gavel, that wooden hammer, on the desk after the pronouncement of a sentence on a confirmed or guilty criminal, it indicates that there is nothing more. That is the final! The condemned criminal's fate is sealed and then he or she is confined or cast into the prison.

God is a righteous Judge who has prepared and reserved a "prison" only for the devil and all his servants. The eternal lake of fire was not even made for you or anyone else, but for Satan. However, those who allow the devil to deceive them in rejecting the offer of salvation that brings eternal life, would perish with him.

Youths are expected to realise the importance of being saved from the wrath of God and eternal damnation in the lake of fire by repenting of their sins and accepting Christ as Lord and Saviour of their lives before it becomes late.
Those whose names would be missing in the book of life at the time of judgment would be cast into the lake of fire.

Quote: "That is the final!"

Chɑllenge: "Escape for your life!"

Prɑyer: "Dear Lord, please save me from the doom of the lake of fire"

CALVARY LOVE
TEXT: JOHN 3:14-17

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life" (JOHN 3:16).

What comes to your mind when you think about the word: love? According to Rick Warren, "Love leaves a legacy. How you treated other people, not your wealth or accomplishments, is the most enduring impact you can leave on earth."

The world has much to say about love; from the print media to the electronic media, we have different definitions and display of love. Most of them reflect sinful emotions. However, love is more than emotions.

The greatest love story of all time is contained in the lines of our memory verse. God's love for you and me was made manifest in the life and death of Jesus Christ.

It beats one's imagination that Christ could leave all the glory and splendour of heaven, humble Himself to be born of a woman and live physically in the flesh like you and I just to fulfil one purpose: redemption of mankind.

It is surely unthinkable that anyone would reject Christ's love. If you are a sinner, His arms are wide open to receive you today.

Quote: "His arms are wide open to receive"

Chɑllenge: "It is almost unthinkable that anyone would reject Christ's love"

Prɑyer: "Dear Lord, keep me from despising Your love, in Jesus' name"

THE REAL LION
TEXT: REVELATION 5:5-12

"And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof" (REVELATION 5:5).

Lions are fascinating creatures with marvellous strength and intriguing terrifying roars that can be heard five miles away. They are magnificent creatures known for their strength to fight against other animals for food and to protect their territory and pride. In the scriptures, the devil is symbolically referred to as a roaring lion. Our Lord Jesus Christ is also referred to as a Lion in our text today. There should not be any confusion in the minds of believers because both of them were referred to symbolically as lions.

Jesus is the real Lion because He prevailed in opening the book which no other man could. The devil is a fake lion and could only roar and destroy sinners who yield themselves to him through sin. No other is as strong and powerful like our Lord. He conquered death and the grave, making Him to be eminently qualified to conquer your fears and failures and solve all your problems. Do not be afraid because you have the Real Lion living inside of you if you are a real child of the kingdom.

Quote: "Jesus is the Real Lion"

Chɑllenge: "You should be as bold as a lion"

Prɑyer: "Lord, make me bold like the Lion of the tribe of Judah"

STEPS TO BIBLICAL REPENTANCE
TEXT: ROMANS 10:6-13

"And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel" (MARK 1:15).

"True repentance is no light matter. It is a thorough change of heart about sin, a change showing itself in godly sorrow, heartfelt confession before the throne of grace, a complete breaking off from sinful habits, and an abiding hatred for all sin. Such repentance is the inseparable companion of saving faith in Christ." This is the position of J. C. Ryle.

Biblical Repentance is a total break away from sin. Many church goers are yet to take the steps that can grant them salvation. Unfortunately, many youths are caught in this web. Are you born again?

The steps to biblical repentance includes: acknowledgement of sins, confession and readiness to forsake them, faith in Christ's atoning sacrifice, and acceptance of the Lordship of Jesus Christ. When these steps are genuinely taken with faith in Christ Jesus as Lord and Saviour, you shall be saved.

It is also pertinent to constantly bear the fruit of the Spirit and maintain unbroken relationship with God and the brethren. With Jesus reigning within you, the result is deep hatred for sin, showing the proof of biblical repentance.

Quote: "Bear the fruit of the Spirit"

Chɑllenge: "Biblical repentance is a total break away from sin"

Prɑyer: "Lord Jesus, save me from all sins"

THE SAVIOUR'S SACRIFICE
TEXT: HEBREWS 10:5-14

"But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God" (HEBREWS 10:12).

On February 3, 1943, a ship was attacked and it began to sink in the waters of the North Atlantic. Four chaplains on the ship began distributing life jackets. When there were no more lifejackets, they removed theirs and gave them to four young men.

Eventually, the chaplains linked their arms together and went down with the ship. The chaplains sacrificed their lives for the young men. One of the survivors said, "It was the finest thing I have seen or hope to see this side of heaven."

This situation gives us a picture of the sacrifice Jesus made for humanity to be reconciled with God and have access to His mercy and unmerited favour and love.

Christ sacrificed Himself for us to save us from our sins. Christ has made the ultimate sacrifice, but we need to confess and forsake our sins to have access to His forgiveness and the lost glory.

Youths who trivialise the sacrifice of Christ are bound to face the eternal judgment of God, who is also a consuming fire. The door of His mercy is still open for all sinners today.

Quote: "Christ has made the ultimate sacrifice"

Chɑllenge: "Make Christ your Lord"

Prɑyer: "Lord, help me to live for You all the days of my life"

A LEADER'S SIN: A LEADING SIN
TEXT: EXODUS 32:17-25

"And Moses said unto Aaron, What did this people unto thee, that thou hast brought so great a sin upon them?" (EXODUS 32:21).

When a leader sins, he is giving a negative example that can bring terrible consequences on those he leads. From our text, Aaron who was supposed to take charge and direct the affairs of the children of Israel while Moses was away, got himself drawn into the sin of idolatry by making a calf from their jewelleries, and they worshipped it. Aaron, further gave a frivolous and foolish excuse to justify his sinful act by claiming that the people were determined to have their way in relation to having an idol as their god and that he had to give in to their demands. This led to the death of about 3,000 men of Israel (Exodus 32:21-28). Many years later, King Saul of Israel also yielded to the pressure of his soldiers to disobey God's command (1 Samuel 15:13-23). He lost the kingdom for it.

Christian youths are to hold fast to God's word when their faith is challenged by the devil and his agents. You should stand on God's Word when people try to lure you into sinful practices.

Quote: "Stand on God's Word"

Chɑllenge: "Stand for the truth always"

Prɑyer: "Lord, keep me through to the very end"

SUCCESSFUL SOLO OUTREACH
TEXT: ACTS 8:29-39

"Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus" (ACTS 8:35).

Sometimes, God opens a door of opportunity to His children in unusual places. Philip, through the inspiration and help of the Holy Spirit, preached Jesus Christ to the Ethiopian Eunuch who eventually accepted Jesus and was baptized.

The Holy Spirit provides a guide to believers in the field of personal evangelism to make them effective soul winners. Personal evangelism is a ministry for all believers in Christ and does not require any special ordination for you to be enlisted.

Personal evangelism is the one-on-one preaching of the gospel to our classmates, friends, relatives, and people you meet every day in your neighbourhood. By engaging in personal evangelism, godly youths share the good news of Jesus Christ with others in order to bring them to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour.

Like Philip, obey the promptings of the Holy Spirit and share the gospel with youths who are yet to give their lives to Christ in your class, on your street, and even in the church. Win the lost at any cost. Make sure you are born again before you preach to others.

Quote: "Win the lost at any cost"

Chɑllenge: "I will preach the gospel as a light bearer"

Prɑyer: "Lord, help me to be a gospel light bearer"

EVANGELISM BY THE PRINTED PAGE
TEXT: ACTS 1:1-4

"The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach" (ACTS 1:1).

A story was told of an old woman who was on the verge of committing suicide, and just about that time, she heard a knock on her door. Reluctantly, she opened and found a young boy with a tract in his hand and an angelic smile on his face, who told her of God's unconditional love for her and left. Puzzled, she read the tract that night, joy flooded her heart, and the thought of death flew away! The joy of salvation would make the vilest sinner jettison his or her sinful life.

The act of this young boy who came and delivered a soul from death by bringing the person to sweet communion with God is commendable. Literature evangelism is the giving out of Christian publications or materials such as tracts, youth magazines and books to fellow youths, so they can come to know Jesus. Like that young boy, you can also reach out to your friends, families, both far and near, by giving them tracts, sending e-mails, text messages and posting gospel messages on social media platforms to win them to Jesus.

Quote: "Reach out and save someone today"

Chɑllenge: "Prayerfully give out tracts today"

Prɑyer: "Father, help me to share the gospel through tracts"
