FORGIVE YOUR FOES
TEXT: MATTHEW 6:2-15

"For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you" (MATTHEW 6:14).

According to Matthew Henry, those who desire to find mercy with God, must show mercy to their brethren. God freely releases His forgiveness to us; and He expects us to do the same for our fellow human beings.

Those who form the habit of forgiveness, always gain more than they lose because apart from God being pleased with their obedience, they have peace of mind since their minds are free from bitterness which causes emotional disturbance that could in turn lead to other medical complications.

Learn to forgive those who offend you in the school or neighbourhood from your heart so that you can be free from bitterness and hate. Nevertheless, you cannot give what you do not have; so, to really forgive others, you need to possess God's forgiveness from all sins through repentance.

Sanctification experience will grant you more grace to forgive freely those who hurt you to release them from the prison of your heart. Remember that sanctification is a definite work of grace that could be done on a believer by God after genuine salvation experience; and requires prayers.

THE GOLDEN RULE
TEXT: MATTHEW 22:36-40

"And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself" (MATTHEW 22:39).

According to R. Ingersoll, we rise by lifting others. This goes to say that whatever we want people to do to us, we should do it to them.

The golden rule states that you must do unto others, as you want them to do unto you. So, loving your neighbour as yourself should not just be a command, but also a way of life. If you do not want to be treated unjustly, then treat others fairly. If you do not want others to make fun of you, then do not make fun of them as well.

Youths who flout the golden rule suffer a lot as a result of the law of retribution which catches up with those who do evil. The fact is that an evil doer will definitely reap evil in this life and in eternity, except he or she repents and makes necessary restitutions.

Make others around you happy with your actions, even if they are hostile towards you because of your faith. The golden rule should make you preach the gospel to others to make them escape hell, just as you want to escape hell too.

NEVER GIVE UP
TEXT: 1 PETER 5:6-10

"Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you" (1 PETER 5:7).

A beautiful caption states that "Sometimes, God calms the storm. Sometimes, God lets the storm rage and calms His child." The above quote shows that life often has its ups and downs, but we need to trust God through all situations that life offers us.

The situation you face in life may appear as if the whole world is crumbling on you, making you to be overwhelmed and too discouraged to even pray. At any time you feel low, you are to increase your faith and confidence in God, as the enemy who brings situations of discouragement to you wants to make you lose your blessings.

Do not give in to discouragement, when you are facing challenges in your studies; or facing persecution, health and financial difficulties. You only need to work harder; and also seek counsel from faithful brethren who will help you by showing you the way out and praying along with you.

Meditate on God's Word and promises. Don't give up; your miracle is on the way; and you will surely share the testimonies of God's goodness to His glory.

THE BOLDNESS OF THE RIGHTEOUS
TEXT: PROVERBS 28:1-5

"The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion" (PROVERBS 28:1).

A song writer pens down these words:

"Victory ahead!
Victory ahead!
Through the blood of Jesus,
victory ahead;
Trusting in the Lord,
I hear the conqu'ror's tread,
By faith-I see the vic-tory ahead!"

We are encouraged to have faith and confidence in God. He will fulfil all His divine promises. Do not hinder yourself from reaching your full potential in your academic, social and spiritual life. Keep pushing through, the walls of challenges will soon crumble at your feet of determination.

Press on in faith in such a way that no matter the setback, disappointment, delay, and discouraging sight that comes your way, you will make it and be all that God has purposed for you to be.

Boldness comes from a strong faith in God and through the help of the Holy Spirit. Like Daniel, stand out from the crowd, and wear your badge of righteousness and holiness. Make sure you are in a good relationship with God. Repent and hold fast to righteous living if you are not yet born again.

PATIENCE OF JOB
TEXT: JAMES 5:7-11

"Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy" (JAMES 5:11).

Job represents the best example of patience - patience in suffering. Patience is the ability to endure difficult circumstances or to manifest perseverance when there is delay or disappointment and tolerance in times of provocation, without responding in anger. Job lost his children and wealth in a day. As if that was not bad enough, he became very sick, to the extent of hating life. The wife and his friends who should be sources of comfort to him, were not helpful; rather, they added to his prevailing challenges. Job resiliently held on to his integrity before God and waited patiently for God's visitation.

How you need patience! You need patience with overbearing seniors in the school, teachers, older siblings, guardians and parents. Unpleasant circumstances require patience. At such times, pray for grace to be patient. God knows what you are going through and is working out a glorious outcome for you, just as he did for Job. Those who do not have a Father - child relationship with God, may not have sufficient grace for patience. Give your life to Christ for His abundant grace of patience to flood your soul.

PARTNERS IN HIS SERVICE
TEXT: COLOSSIANS 4:1-10

"Aristarchus my fellow prisoner saluteth you, and Marcus, sister’s son to Barnabas, touching whom ye received commandments: if he come unto you, receive him" (COLOSSIANS 4:10).

A partner is a fellow who shares in one's vision and helps to achieve it, not minding the cost. Apostle John, in 3 John 6-8, commends Gaius for his charity before the church and the missionaries for their commitment to the service of the Lord as fellow helpers. The work of God cannot be done singlehandedly, as it requires a number of good hands who are ready to give their best to the Lord of the work, who eventually rewards His faithful servants.

As a Christian youth, partnership opportunities abound for you in the service of the Lord. Jesus said, "The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few". In your local assembly or school fellowship, there are quite a number of things to do for the glory of God and for the edification of the body of Christ. Identify your God-ordained role today and partner with like-minds in your school or local church to work for the Lord. Partner with the Lord today for a rewarding divine service which would attract blessings both here on earth and in eternity.

SOUND THE TRUMPET
TEXT: JEREMIAH 4:1-8

"Declare ye in Judah, and publish in Jerusalem; and say, Blow ye the trumpet in the land: cry, gather together, and say, Assemble yourselves, and let us go into the defenced cities" (JEREMIAH 4:5).

Trumpets were used in the Bible days to call the people of God to assembly and to give warning signals in cases of enemy invasions. Thus, the sound of the trumpet was indicative of an emergency call for the good of the people, either to inform or to warn them.

In our contemporary time, the sound of the trumpet is made loud through the preaching of the gospel by anointed men of God. Thus, the sound of the trumpet (gospel message) is a wake-up call to sinners to repent and for believers to remain steadfast.

Every sinner is at risk of eternal destruction. It is therefore your duty, once you are born again, to sound the alarm; to point out to other youths who are still sinners, the eternal danger ahead of them. Preach the gospel; give out tracts and magazines to them. By all means, do all you can to save the unbelieving youths around you. Have you yielded your life to Jesus? If not, why not now? Tomorrow may be too late. Pray and ask Jesus into your heart right now.

THE LORD'S SUPPER
TEXT: 1 CORINTHIANS 11:24-30

"But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup" (1 CORINTHIANS 11:28).

The story was told of a church member who went to observe the Lord's Supper with his 'drinking horn'. He thought that it would be a session with a lot of wine to drink with hilarity and without the solemnity that is required of the Lord's holy symbolic ordinance. How wrong he was. There are many youths today who have faulty perceptions of the Lord's Supper, and fail to approach its observance with the required solemnity that it deserves.

The Lord's Supper is a solemn ordinance to be observed by all those who have accepted Jesus as Lord and Saviour, in remembrance of His vicarious death at Calvary and His imminent return to take believers to heaven. Beware of so called Lord's Supper that is observed with alcoholic drink and leavened bread. Some avoid the Lord's Supper. Whatever keeps you away from the Lord's Supper will shut you out of heaven.

It would be to one's detriment to partake unworthily. Determine to partake at the next opportunity. Examine yourself and be sure there is no sin in your life; and partake in its glory.

BLOCK BACKSLIDING
TEXT: JEREMIAH 3:12-22

"Go and proclaim these words toward the north, and say, Return, thou backsliding Israel, saith the LORD..." (JEREMIAH 3:12).

Simply put, to "backslide" is to step backwards from following the Lord. When a true Christian goes back on his or her commitment to faithfully follow the Lord in holiness of life, such a person is said to have backslidden. That was the case with Demas in 2 Timothy 4:10.

Some Christians backslide by yielding to the pull of the temptation that the ungodly world presents. Many youths today are backsliding because they are too close to the sin-inviting persons or situations. A youth who goes for a picnic with the ungodly will surely backslide because they will pull him or her down through drinking, lust and fornication.

Once saved, earnestly pray for grace to consistently follow the Lord, without going back to your old sinful lifestyle. Resist the temptation of self-acclaimed independence from mature and God-fearing spiritual leaders like the Prodigal Son who strayed away from the father to a far country. Do not backslide.

Have you backslidden? Hope is not lost. Urgently return to the Lord by pleading for restoration before it is too late.

CONSCIENCE VOID OF OFFENCE
TEXT: ACTS 24:14-18

"And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offence toward God, and toward men..." (ACTS 24:16).

Conscience is described as "a person's moral sense of right and wrong, viewed as acting as a guide to one's behaviour." The subject of pure conscience is very important to a Christian, as it determines the extent of conformity to the word of God. As a commentator puts it, "your conscience recalls what you have accepted as right or wrong." That means your conscience keeps a record of your behaviour or pattern of life. It is a heavenly witness God has put within every boy or girl to report all that is going on in his or her life. Those who commit sins behind closed doors, thinking that they can cover their sins, are not wise because their sins are recorded in heaven and known to God the owner of our conscience.

The scriptures say, "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?" (Jeremiah 17:9). You are to depend on the scriptures to determine what is right or wrong. God searches the hearts. To maintain a conscience void of offence, therefore, make your ways right through restitution where necessary.

ARISE AND SHINE
TEXT: ISAIAH 60:1-5

"Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee..." (ISAIAH 60:1).

Nightfall signifies a period of darkness covering everywhere because of the absence of light. Nobody can see properly during the night. Where no light exists, darkness reigns. Those who are in the darkness of a sinful lifestyle, cannot see afar off to know the consequences of sin to their lives. The Lord's call to all sinning youths is for them to arise out of their darkness so He can cause His glory to come upon them, so that they can shine. Jesus is the Light of the world. Anyone who is in Him will not walk in darkness and would shun the unfruitful works of darkness.

As a child of God, the Lord requires you to allow His glory to shine through you for the world to see. "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven" (Matthew 5:16). God does not want His children to be in obscurity. Are you in an academic obscurity? It is time for you to rise and shine in your class with the help of the Holy Spirit.

THE WISDOM OF GAMALIEL
TEXT: ACTS 5:25-40

"And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought: But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it..." (ACTS 5:38, 39).

Gamaliel stood out as a member of the Jewish Council. He was a Pharisee, a doctor of the law, who had a great reputation among all the people. He was highly educated, and full of wisdom and allowed God to use him. His wise, godly counsel delivered the apostles from the imminent death plan of the murderous council.

Youths are challenged by the life of Gamaliel to use their wisdom to accomplish godly purposes. Those who use their God-given wisdom for internet fraud, or cause rancour in the school or neighbourhood, are enemies of God. Only those who desist from doing so and promote godliness after genuine repentance will not be guilty of misuse of wisdom in the court of heaven.

Have you become wise unto salvation? If not, why not? You need to be truly born again for God to bestow more wisdom on you. You can study hard to become highly educated with the highest degree in any field, but without God in your life, your knowledge will be in vain. Allow God to guide you to use your knowledge wisely.

FLEE YOUTHFUL LUSTS
TEXT: 2 TIMOTHY 2:15-22

"Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart" (2 TIMOTHY 2:22).

Youthful lusts are inordinate and sinful passions to go into immoral behaviour that could damn the soul of a youth. Lusts in the heart of a youth could lead him or her to impurities of the heart and flesh. Inordinate passions emanating from uncontrolled lusts have led many youths to pornography, rape, early and unwanted pregnancy and the likes. Lust can destroy your physical and spiritual life if you do not fight against it vigorously. Little wonder the instruction of God is to flee youthful lusts.

No excuse is acceptable for you to commit immorality. Don't allow any boy or girl to seduce you. If you are tempted by anyone to commit fornication, do what Joseph did in Genesis 39:7-12. Run away! Don't stay back to negotiate with anyone who suggests immorality to you.

Many promising girls have allowed evil boys and men to destroy their future through early pregnancies. Many youths have died of the dreaded Acquire Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) because of immorality. Don't be a victim. Are you lusting after anyone? Shut the door against the devil! Repent, ask for God's forgiveness and cleansing.

OVERCOME LIKE JOSEPH
TEXT: GENESIS 39:7-12

"And she caught him by his garment, saying, Lie with me: and he left his garment in her hand, and fled, and got him out" (GENESIS 39:12).

The whole world seems to be under the full control of the devil today like a theatre under the full control of the stage director because the children of men love immoral acts.

God was moved with wrath and He destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah by fire because of sodomy. Today, youths have gone into sodomy acts like homosexuality and lesbianism, giving room for immorality to continue to increase everywhere.

God who created the world will rise and bring into judgment those who pride themselves on immorality, just the same way He did in the days of Noah, Sodom and Gomorrah.

Joseph was a classical hero of victory over the temptation to commit immorality. Many others have overcome and are still overcoming similar temptations today. You can overcome.

See whoever lures you into immorality as a person who wants to destroy you and cast your soul to hell. Avoid being alone with the tempter. Shout and flee from anyone who wants to lure you into fornication or rape you. That was what saved Joseph. He fled from his master's wife.

HE WAS TEMPTED TOO
TEXT: HEBREWS 4:14-16

"For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin" (HEBREWS 4:15).

Temptation is the intentional enticement of a person (boy or girl), with a bait to disobey God's revealed Word. It is a stark reality of life. Many a youth find temptations too strong and the flesh too weak to resist them. They always fall every time they are tempted. The cry of their heart is, "who shall deliver me from the body of this death?" (Romans 7:24).

Our text makes reference to Jesus Christ, our Saviour, whose historic victory over temptation is recorded in the gospels (see Matthew 4:1-11). Jesus was basically tempted in three areas - satisfaction of the flesh, display of might, and materialism. These constitute the various areas by which temptations come to man. Jesus overcame temptations by remaining focused on the Word of God. He used the scriptures to counter the enticements of Satan. We can overcome today by also resisting the tempter, using the Word. We also need to seek the grace of God, avoid the objects of temptation, and fill our hearts with things noble and of good report.

IDLENESS
TEXT: ACTS 17:18-22

"For all the Athenians and strangers which were there spent their time in nothing else, but either to tell, or to hear some new thing" (ACTS 17:21).

Idleness, simply put, is the state of wasting time by doing nothing of value. On the list of the 'Seven Deadly Sins', it was named acedia (sloth, laziness or idleness). Dorothy Sayers thus described it as "the sin that believes in nothing, cares for nothing, seeks to know nothing, interferes with nothing, enjoys nothing, hates nothing, finds purpose in nothing, lives for nothing, and remains alive because there is nothing for which it will die."

Athenians had the problem of idleness. They spent their time in "nothing else." Modern youths also have the problem of idleness. A modern rendition of the verse may read thus: "for all the youths spent their time in nothing else, but to text, chat, watch videos and play games on their smartphones." But they have work to do - domestic chores, academic work and reading the Bible. One of the things that God hates is idleness. THERE IS GOD: HE SEES
TEXT: PSALM 14:1-5

"The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good" (PSALM 14:1).

Stephen Hawkins was a celebrated English theoretical physicist, cosmologist and author. He was best known for many of his seminal works in quantum physics, including the discovery of the "black hole." He wrote many books and scientific papers.

His last book, published after his death in March 2018, was entitled: Brief Answers To Big Questions. In the book, he stated that "We are each free to believe what we want, and it's my view that the simplest explanation is that there is no God. No one created the universe, and no one directs our fate." What a sad way to end a life!

What Stephen Hawkins said with his mouth (in his book), many sinners are saying with their lives. To live in sin and wickedness is to deny the existence of God. To live and behave as if God does not observe human behaviour, and that actions have no consequences, is indeed foolishness.

Make no mistake about it - there is God in heaven. He sees everything and He will bring every action to judgment. Repent today, and come to Christ for salvation.
