TOPIC: THE INTERPRETER OF DIVINE REVELATION
TEXT: GENESIS 40:5,8; 41:12-16,25,32,38-44; 2 PETER 1:20-22
Genesis 40:5,8
• 5 And they dreamed a dream both of them, each man his dream in one night, each man according to the interpretation of his dream, the butler and the baker of the king of Egypt, which were bound in the prison.
• 8 And they said unto him, We have dreamed a dream, and there is no interpreter of it. And Joseph said unto them, Do not interpretations belong to God? tell me them, I pray you.
ch 41:12-16, 25, 32, 38-44
• 12 And there was there with us a young man, an Hebrew, servant to the captain of the guard; and we told him, and he interpreted to us our dreams; to each man according to his dream he did interpret.
• 13 And it came to pass, as he interpreted to us, so it was; me he restored unto mine office, and him he hanged.
• 14 Then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they brought him hastily out of the dungeon: and he shaved himself, and changed his raiment, and came in unto Pharaoh.
• 15 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, I have dreamed a dream, and there is none that can interpret it: and I have heard say of thee, that thou canst understand a dream to interpret it.
• 16 And Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, It is not in me: God shall give Pharaoh an answer of peace.
• 25 And Joseph said unto Pharaoh, The dream of Pharaoh is one: God hath shewed Pharaoh what he is about to do.
• 32 And for that the dream was doubled unto Pharaoh twice; it is because the thing is established by God, and God will shortly bring it to pass.
• 38 And Pharaoh said unto his servants, Can we find such a one as this is, a man in whom the Spirit of God is?
• 39 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Forasmuch as God hath shewed thee all this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou art:
• 40 Thou shalt be over my house, and according unto thy word shall all my people be ruled: only in the throne will I be greater than thou.
• 41 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, See, I have set thee over all the land of Egypt.
• 42 And Pharaoh took off his ring from his hand, and put it upon Joseph's hand, and arrayed him in vestures of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck;
• 43 And he made him to ride in the second chariot which he had; and they cried before him, Bow the knee: and he made him ruler over all the land of Egypt.
• 44 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, I am Pharaoh, and without thee shall no man lift up his hand or foot in all the land of Egypt.
2 Peter 1:20-21
• 20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
• 21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

INTRODUCTION:
We are coming to the reading, learning and applying the word of God today.

Genesis 40:5,8. Joseph himself was a dreamer, he didn't look for interpretation for them because he already knew it. His brothers and father also knew it. Now, the king's butler and baker had dreams according to their destinies and were looking for an interpreter, and Joseph was available to interpret for them.

Does God give dreams like that today? Yes, He does. Did He give dreams in the New Testament? Yes, He did.
DREAMS IN THE NEW TESTAMENT

When Mary was to have Jesus, Joseph had a dream in which he was cleared about Mary's pregnancy as coming from the Holy Ghost, and he acted on the instructions he received in the dream in the next verse.

In chapter 2 of Matthew, Joseph had another dream about how Herod would seek to harm baby Jesus and he was told what to do. He carried Mary and the child to Egypt in fulfilment of the word of God. Immediately Herod died, God showed him in a dream and he brought the Lord back home.

The Lord Jesus was being tried and Pilate was the judge and his wife sent a message to him never to have anything to do with the trial of the just man because she suffered many things in the dream earlier in the night.

On the day of Pentecost when the Holy Ghost came down, the words of God said that in the last days, He would pour out His Spirit upon all flesh and the young men shall see visions and prophesy and the old men shall dream dreams. This is also in the New Testament.

In Acts 18, the Lord appeared to Apostle Paul in the night visions (dreams) and assured him to fear not because no one will be able to hurt him. In ch 27, they were in the ship, and the Lord appeared to him in a dream, giving him assurance of safety along with all who were with him in the ship.

God uses dreams, not only for the heathen, but also for His children: Joseph in the Old Testament, Joseph in the New Testament, Paul the Apostle and others who received revelations from the Lord.

Now, when God gives us dreams, we have the privilege to compare them with the Bible, an opportunity not available to Joseph in his time, when Genesis was not yet written. So you see these people looking for interpretation because they had no Scriptures to compare their dreams with.

We have seen that the king's butler and baker had their dreams the same night and because they didn't have the interpretations, they were perplexed. Joseph interpreted their dreams which came to pass as he said.

Joseph was called by Pharaoh and he shaved and changed his clothes before appearing before him. How many people appear today in the presence of the King of kings and fail to present themselves in an acceptable manner, clean and pure within as well as without. Joseph knew that, I pray that God will help us to do the right thing by appearing before God clean in spirit, soul and body in Jesus name.

Pharaoh told Joseph that he had some dreams which no man could interpret but Joseph told him that to interpret dreams was not in his hands, but by the wisdom, enablement of the Spirit of God. He said by the dreams, God had shown Pharaoh what He was about to do, and that they came twice to show that they were established by God and would happen shortly.

As we look at these two chapters today, we are considering the message titled THE INTERPRETER OF DIVINE REVELATION. God has shown Pharaoh in a dream what He was about to do and has given the interpretation through the interpreter of divine revelation. We are looking at three things in this message:

Re: Higher Everyday — Learning: Route To Greatness - 2 by OLAADEGBU(m): 6:42pm On Aug 07, 2022
A. THE FAITHFUL INTERPRETATION OF GOD'S REVELATION

1. THE IMMUTABILITY OF DIVINE DREAMS
(Genesis 41:32, 53-56; 40:20-22, Daniel 2:36, 44-45, Acts 27:23-25
As revealed by Joseph, nothing on earth could change the dreams. Why? God had revealed to Abraham that his descendants would sojourn in a strange land and when the time was fulfilled, He would bring them out after He has developed and they are matured as a nation to a land of Canaan. It was the way the Lord would bring the whole family of Jacob to Egypt and it is unchangeable and God would bring it to pass.
vs 54. The seven years of famine actually came to pass as Joseph said, it went to all lands and only Egypt had food. When the Egyptians exhausted their stores, they came to Pharaoh for food and he told them to go and meet Joseph.

The interpretation of Joseph concerning the dreams of the butler and chief baker came to pass exactly as he said. Same thing happened in the land of Babylon when Nebuchadnezzer dreamed and Daniel interpreted it. The king's dream revealed what God would do, how He would establish a kingdom of His choosing which will destroy and replace all the kingdoms of the earth.

This shows that whatever God reveals anything, especially things concerning the coming kingdom, and what He had decided and decreed in heaven, it is certain, sure, immutable and will come to pass. God revealed to Apostle Paul that he and all who were with him in the ship would be spared, and it came to pass likewise.

2. THE INCORRUPTIBILITY OF DIVINE DOCTRINE
(Deuteronomy 32:2-4; Isaiah 55:10-11; Matthew 24:35; 1 Timothy 4:15-16)
The word of God is eternal, abiding immutable truth and without iniquity. The doctrines of the word of God are immutable. And will not pass away. As He sent the rains down and they will not go back, so will His words be. The word of God, the doctrines of Christ does not expire or pass away. Heaven looks stable and immovable yet, they shall pass away. The earth looks immovable, yet, it shall pass away. The things which appear stable and strong will pass away, but His words will not pass away without being fulfilled.

All He said: Repent and believe the gospel, blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God, the sinner will not see Him, except our righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisses, and except a man be born again, he shall not see the Kingdom of God. All will come to pass. Jesus said His words will not pass away. He prayed, sanctify them through Thy truth, Thy word is truth. The word of God is true. He said He will go and prepare a place for us, and He will come again and take us home, this will also come to pass.

He said for this cause shall a man leave his father and mother and shall cleave to his wife. One man, one woman until death does them part. The word of God is unchangeable.

It is important to take heed to the doctrines of the word of God. When Pharaoh had dreams and Joseph interpreted them, he did not throw away the interpretation and sent Joseph away, but he took heed to them and preserved his nation and the world of that time. When we hear the interpretation of the word of God today, we must not jettison it but to accept, take heed to, and work on them. By doing this, we will save ourselves and all who hear us.

3. THE INTEGRITY OF DIVINELY-DIRECTED DISCIPLES
(Genesis 41:38-40; 1 Kings 22:14,23-28; Acts 20:26-27; 2 Corinthians 2:17)

How do you know a man or woman, a boy or girl in whom the Spirit of God is? He does not fear the face of man, he does not mutilate, change or corrupt the word of God for fear of the people. He speaks the word of God the way it is, no matter where he is brought to. He does not become political or seek self relevance, or praise from anyone, no matter what the reactions of the people will be.

Micah said he would only speak the words which the Lord put in his mouth. The fear of man did not ensnare or derail him. Apostle Paul also said he was free from the blood of men: low, high, religious, bond, free, etc. because he never shunned to declare the whole counsel of God. He will not shy away from any of the doctrines of Christ. He did not cover up anything, nor did he mislead anyone. He said the just shall live by faith, he was not afraid to declare the word of God to all.

He did not corrupt, mutilate or distort the word of God, but boldly spoke the truth in Christ.

WONDERFULLY MADE
TEXT: PSALM 139:11-15

"I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well" (PSALM 139:14).

The zenith of God's creation is man, made in His own image and likeness. After creation, God proclaimed to man - male and female to...be fruitful, multiply, replenish the earth, subdue it and have dominion... God evaluated His creation and adjudged them "very good." He made man unique; endowed him with divine capabilities.

Our text shows the Psalmist's acknowledgement and acceptance of God's creative ingenuity. He expressed the incontestable fact that darkness cannot hide any thing or person from God. Hence the assurance that right in the womb of his mother, his "substance was not hid" from God. He examined himself and declared in awe that he was "fearfully and wonderfully made."

Note this: he was not boastful of his wonderful personality, no self-praise; rather, he gave praises to God for His greatness and marvelous works. As a youth, you should not focus on an aspect of your body that you are not satisfied with and forget about the overall wonders of God in your life. God wonderfully made them all. Like the Psalmist, give God praise!

Quote: "Like the psalmist, give God praise!"

Chɑllenge: "Appreciate God and surrender your life and possessions to Him."

Prɑyer: "Lord, let me fulfil Your purpose for my life, in Jesus' name"

SPIRIT-FILLED STEPHEN
TEXT: ACTS 6:1-10

"And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch" (ACTS 6:5).

Richard Blanchard, who wrote the hymn, "Fill My Cup Lord", suffered a severe lung problem, leading to Blanchard being left with one-third of his lung capacity. But a diminished physical wellbeing did not stop young Blanchard.

In 1953, he became the pastor of a church in Coral Gables, Florida, and one day, was asked by a young couple to perform their marriage ceremony. However, the couple was quite late for their counselling appointment; as he waited for the young couple, God gave him the inspiring song with the following chorus:

"Fill my cup, Lord, - I lift it up, Lord!
Come and quench this thirsting of my soul;
Bread of heaven, feed me till I want no more -
Fill my cup, fill it up and make me whole!"

This song, and the experience of the inspired writer, summarize the significance of our Bible text. Stephen became the first Church martyr, but his preaching aided the growth of the early Church. Beloved, do you want to be used of God? Seek to be filled with the Holy Spirit, for then can you fully achieve your utmost for Christ.

Quote: "Seek to be filled with the Holy Spirit!"

Chɑllenge: "You too can be Spirit filled."

Prɑyer: "Lord, fill me with Your Holy Spirit"

SATISFYING THIRSTY SOULS IN A DRY LAND
TEXT: PSALM 42:1-2,4-6,8,11

• 1 (To the chief Musician, Maschil, for the sons of Korah.) As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.
• 2 My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?
• 4 When I remember these things, I pour out my soul in me: for I had gone with the multitude, I went with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, with a multitude that kept holyday.
• 5 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.
• 6 O my God, my soul is cast down within me: therefore will I remember thee from the land of Jordan, and of the Hermonites, from the hill Mizar.
• 8 Yet the LORD will command his lovingkindness in the daytime, and in the night his song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God of my life.
• 11 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.
INTRODUCTION:
vs 1-2. Here the psalmist is saying to the Lord that as the hart pants after the water brook, so he is panting after Him. He wanted something from God, something spiritual, something physical. He desired wisdom, knowledge and understanding to rule the nation. Although he had the things of the world, the place, position and properties, yet, he desired something the world could offer.
Psalm 61:1-2. The cry of the psalmist is not a silent one, but a loud one to God. Some keep their desires in their hearts, only meditating on them, not so with the psalmist. From the ends of the earth, from any part of the world he was, he poured out his heart to the Lord, begging Him to lead him to the rock that is higher than him.
ch 63:1. Despite all the duties, the responsibilities ahead of him on a daily basis, David still took time to seek God. He was seeking God not for the physical reasons only, but for spiritual purpose.
The heart cry of the righteous:
Early in my life, profession, and ministry will I seek Thee. My heart, flesh longs after you. I want to see more of you, your power and glory.
ch 84:2-7. David desired the living God. We serve a living God, not a dead God. Though we can worship God on our own, yet, we desire to be in His presence because there are some things we get in His presence we cannot get elsewhere. Whatever we learn in the house of God we still remember when we get to our offices, and places of businesses. We praise God everywhere, as if we are still in His house.
Those who seek God, who put their requests before God grow from strength to strength.
A. THE PANTING AND THE PASSION OF A THIRSTY SOUL. Psalm 42:1-2
Here we see the expression of a soul panting after God.
How do we know a hart panting after the waters?
1. By going in the direction of the water brooks, not up a tree, or towards the desert
2. Because it is not going sluggishly but running towards the water
3. By staying and drinking the water to the full.
A thirsting soul
1. Will go towards the direction where he can find the word, will, way, grace, power and satisfaction of God
2. He goes early and promptly to the presence of God, He will not be sluggish or lethargic
3. He stays, patient, rests there, seeking the Lord, wanting more of the Lord. His heart and life is there. Whatever he has, he wants more. He wants to get to heaven when he dies.
Psalm 143:6-8. As you look at your life, and what other people seek after: money, position, wealth, landed and other properties, and other things that can make their lives comfortable, you see that they are not satisfied or fulfilled by these things. But as for you, you long for fellowship and intimacy with God because He is the only one who knows the destiny which He has planned for us. We mortals do not know the way wherein we should walk, so we lift our souls to God.
Isaiah 44:3-5. God Himself desires to pour waters of refreshing, revival and blessings upon us. (ch 55:1) All that thirst are being invited to the waters of life (vs 12) we shall have peace that passes all understanding, we shall rejoice. Amen.
ch 48:18. Our peace shall be multiplied, and our righteousness as the waves of the sea (vs 21; 41:17-20).
Matthew 5:6. The righteousness will overflow, but it takes thirsting and panting after it. Righteousness at home, in the house of God, in our places of work and business, everywhere.
John7:37-39. When we are really thirsty, we go to the Lord in prayer. And our souls and spirits will be revived. Our bodies will be healed in cases of sicknesses.
Acts 2:33
Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.
Revelation 21:6 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.
Revelation 22:17
And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.
B. THE PRAYER AND THE PRAISE OF A TRUSTING SOUL. Psalm 42:4-5,8
You cannot fill any container without opening the lid. If you decide to not open your mouth to pray, you will not get anything. Some people do not know that the house of God is a house of prayer. The day of the Lord is a holy day meant for worshiping and putting our requests before God. It is not a day to go to beaches on picnics or any other worldly pursuits.
Psalm 62:8. When there are challenges, when things are not going the way we want, as we pour out our hearts to God in prayer, we will not be denied.
ch 46:1-5
- 1 (To the chief Musician for the sons of Korah, A Song upon Alamoth.) God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
- 2 Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;
Some people are afraid of the situation of the country, of the economy, etc. We shall not be afraid.
- 3 Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.
- 4 There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High.
- 5 God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early.
God will not be late on our case as we seek His face in Jesus name.
2 Chronicles 20:3,12. Jehoshaphat was initially afraid, but afterwards, he sought the face of the Lord. Messages of encouragement came to him. (vs 20-24) Problems, challenges, sorrow will not take songs of praise out of our mouths. Amen. Our enemies will help to destroy themselves and none of them shall escape. Amen.
Psalm 40:3-5
- 3 And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.
What God will do in our lives, and in the lives of our family members, many shall hear them and trust in the Lord.
- 4 Blessed is that man that maketh the LORD his trust, and respecteth not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.
- 5 Many, O LORD my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered.
The goodness, wonderful works of God in us will not be countable. Amen. Isaiah 50:10
Romans 4:18-21. Abraham believed God. He hoped against hope. He was fully persuaded that what God has promised, He was able to perform. He eventually had the promise.
Acts 16:25-26. When we praise the Lord in adversity, SUDDENLY, our problems vanished away, the joy came, our burdens rolled away, our bodies are healed, the oppression vanishes away, the demonic powers are broken, the long awaited jobs come, SUDDENLY! Thank God, today is the day. Amen!
C. THE PRIORITY AND THE PURSUIT OF A TRANSFORMED SOUL. Psalm 42:6,11;
My brother and sister, hope in God! Those problems you see today, you will see them no more!
Psalms 42:11. Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.
Matthew 6:31-33. Seek first the kingdom of God, and all other things shall be added unto you. Let seeking God be your priority.
Romans 8:32. God who did not spare His Son Jesus Christ, but gave Him to us will also freely give us all things.
3 John 2
- Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.
- You will prosper in everything you do. Your health will come back to the optimum in Jesus name. Your soul will prosper in Jesus. As you seek the Lord, you will find Him. Your soul should not be cast down or weary. You should not be tired, and think there is no hope. Nothing is over, you are starting afresh. New strength, power, courage, blessing, healing in your body, strength in your soul, power in your spirit, prosperity in your job, and the work of God will prosper in your hands in Jesus name. Amen.
Prayer:
- Pray for grace to seek God more, and that, as you seek God, you will see Him.
- Pray that your strength will be renewed on a daily basis
- Pray that God will bless and renew the spiritual and physical energy of our father in the Lord.

SPIDERS IN KING'S PALACES
TEXT: PROVERBS 30:25-28

"The spider taketh hold with her hands, and is in kings' palaces" (PROVERBS 30:28).

Someone does not have to go too far to locate spiders. Spiders are not only in poor men's huts, but they also live in kings' palaces. They are found almost everywhere - in the bush, in the corner of the room, on the ceiling, on the wall, and in caves. They make their webs everywhere. Spiders are very industrious. The ingenuity with which they spin their web with dispatch is astonishing.

Human beings constantly destroy the spider's 'house'. The moment it's web is swept away, the spider begins to construct a new one immediately. Spiders are examples of diligence. "Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men"

Some youths who would have been shining stars have gone into oblivion because of sinful acts, indolence, idleness and procrastination. Christian youths who will mind their business and not be deterred by difficulties, mocking, intimidation or harassment will soon find themselves in kings' palaces. A child of God is destined for places of honour. Do not settle for anything lesser.

Quote: "Spiders are very industrious."

Chɑllenge: "A lazy person will be a servant to the diligent.."

Prɑyer: "Dear Lord, help me to be up and doing always"

THE DOWNFALL OF DAGON
TEXT: 1 SAMUEL 5:2-7

"And when they arose early on the morrow morning, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of the LORD; and the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands were cut off upon the threshold; only the stump of Dagon was left to him" (1 SAMUEL 5:4).

The hostility ended with the Philistines defeating the Israelites. The Philistines committed a blunder by capturing the ark of the covenant of the LORD and placing it side by side with Dagon, their idol, thus ascribing their victory to Dagon. In the morning, Dagon was "fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of the LORD."

Perhaps they thought it was accidental, they put it back into its place. The aftermath was disastrous. Their jubilation and funfair was therefore short-lived when they discovered the dismemberment of Dagon the following day. Their dumb idol was degraded. God defended His glory by bringing a painful and dreaded disease, 'emerods' upon the Philistines of Ashdod.

In like manner, the kingdom of Satan will certainly fall before the Kingdom of Christ, darkness before light, error before truth, and profanity before godliness. The Bible says, "The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, and the haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day" (Isaiah 2:11). Do not compare anything with Jehovah. Worship Him only.

Quote: "Do not compare anything with Jehovah"

Chɑllenge: "God is sovereign and supreme."

Prɑyer: "O God, I worship your majesty. Let me not wander away from You"

THE RUGGED RUTH
TEXT: RUTH 1:16-22

"And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God" (RUTH 1:16).

Adversity is the grindstone of life. It grinds some people down and polishes others up. George Young wrote:

"Some through the waters, some through the flood,
Some through the fire, but all through the blood."

Indeed, no one is immune from adversity in life. Following the Lord is not a jolly ride. Beethoven composed his greatest works after becoming deaf. Luther translated the Bible while enduring confinement in the Castle of Wartburg. John Bunyan wrote Pilgrim's Progress in a Bedford jail.

Ruth had her own share of life's adversities. She became a young widow. Worst still, her mother-in-law did not give her a ray of hope for a brighter future but painted a picture of cheerlessness.

Ruth decided to leave her comfort zone. She forsook her idolatrous people and doggedly plunged herself by faith into an "uncertain future" to serve the only true God.

Life is full of challenges. The impact and ultimate result depend on what you do with the problems that come your way. Whatever life's situations bring, rise up, face your challenges and overcome.

Quote: "She forsook her idolatrous people"

Chɑllenge: "Make your life's challenge a stepping stone."

Prɑyer: "Dear Father, help me not to cringe in the face of any challenge"

THE SERVANT SAMUEL
TEXT: 1 SAMUEL 2:18-20

"But Samuel ministered before the LORD, being a child, girded with a linen ephod" (1 SAMUEL 2:18).

Samuel was a product of prayer. His life was consecrated as a gift to God by his mother even before his birth. He grew up like a lily in the mire. He had no godly examples to emulate in the house of Prophet Eli where he grew up.

The two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were described as sons of Belial. These were supposedly the companions of Samuel. Notwithstanding, the life of Samuel was exceptional. This worthy life made him to start his ministry from childhood as he "...ministered before the LORD, being a child..."

No matter the corruption in your environment, you can also decide to live for the glory of God and escape the corruption that is in the world. Only saved and sanctified youths can become useful instruments in the hand of God.

God is looking for changed youths to change the world. You will become a mighty instrument in the hand of God as you set your life apart and become one of the servants of God like Samuel. Make your life count for God.

Quote: "A mighty instrument in the hand of God"

Chɑllenge: "Decide to live right no matter what others do."

Prɑyer: "Father, help me to keep away from defilement"

THE SYMPATHETIC SAMARITAN
TEXT: LUKE 10:33-37

"But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him, And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him" (LUKE 10:33, 34).

A woman was arrested in a grocery store for stealing. When the policeman asked her what she stole, she said, "Five eggs to feed my hungry children." Rather than carry out the arrest, the police officer took her back to the supermarket and bought her foodstuffs to feed herself and her children.

Compassion will not allow the "good Samaritan" to abandon the victim in his precarious condition despite the hostility between the Jews and the Samaritans.

We should not dodge any opportunity to do good under any guise. "As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith."

Plant good seeds in the lives of others and forget them. It will germinate and grow someday. No form of kindness you show is lost, it reproduces itself, not necessarily in the same form, but it always does.

Goodness is a fruit of the Spirit which Christian youths should produce in abundance. Be zealous for good works for it will always come back to you in due season. It is good to be good.

Quote: "Plant good seeds in the lives of others"

Chɑllenge: "Never lose any opportunity to do good."

Prɑyer: "Father, give me grace to impact others positively, in Jesus' name"

HEART CIRCUMCISION
TEXT: DEUTERONOMY 30:1-8

"And the LORD thy God will circumcise thine heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, that thou mayest live" (DEUTERONOMY 30:6).

Medically, circumcision - the surgical removal of the foreskin of the male private part - is done for hygienic purposes to lower the risk of urinary tract infections. This practice found its origin in the Bible.

Just as circumcision of the flesh symbolised outward identification with the Lord and the covenant (Genesis 17:10-23), so circumcision of the heart (Deuteronomy 10:6 and Jeremiah 4:4) speaks of internal identification with God, also called sanctification or purification of heart in theology.

Our hearts define who we are. What comes out of a man can make him unclean. From within men's hearts comes evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly (Mark 7:20-23).

Therefore, to see an outward change, there must be an inward change. The benefits of heart circumcision include: being able to totally love God and man (friends and enemies alike), forgive hurts and pains, be blameless and holy in God's presence, live a peaceful and joyful life in all circumstances and live eternally with God.

Quote: "Our hearts define who we are"

Chɑllenge: "Are you ready for a heart circumcision? Ask for it."

Prɑyer: "Circumcise my heart dear Lord"

THE WISE VIRGINS
TEXT: MATTHEW 25:1-7

"They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps" (MATTHEW 25:3, 4).

When John Wesley was asked what he would do if he knew his Lord would return at that time the next day. He said in effect, "I would go to bed and go to sleep; wake up in the morning, and go on with my work, for I would want Him to find me doing what He had appointed."

This parable in our text is about believers' preparedness for the coming of the Bridegroom. The preparedness/unpreparedness of the ten virgins indicates that a large number of believers will be taken unawares. Christ will not wait for the whole Church to be ready before making His appearance.

Jesus said that the wise are those who listen to and follow His teachings (Matthew 7:24-29). Like the five wise virgins, we need to be prepared lest we miss going with the Bridegroom and our possible rewards.

As a believer, take care of your own spiritual welfare and persevere in faith as the time of Christ's coming is unknown. Sinners can be prepared by being saved from sin, and having genuine personal faith in Christ.

Quote: "Take care of your own spiritual welfare"

Chɑllenge: "Jesus Christ could return tonight or tomorrow. Are you ready?"

Prɑyer: "O God, give me the grace to persevere till Christ's coming"

THE FOOLISH VIRGINS
TEXT: MATTHEW 25:8-13

"And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out. But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you" (MATTHEW 25:8, 9).

In 1909, James H. Stanley warned through his song 'Prepare To Meet Thy God':

"Careless soul, why will you linger,
Wand'ring from the fold of God?
Hear you not the invitation?
Oh, prepare to meet thy God."

Refrain:

"Careless soul, oh, heed the warning,
For your life will soon be gone,
Oh, how sad to face the judgment,
Unprepared to meet thy God."

"Why so thoughtless are you staying,
While the fleeting years go by,
And your life is spent in folly?
Oh, prepare to meet thy God." [Refrain]

Jesus said the foolish hears the word of God but does not follow it. The five foolish virgins appeared religious but lacked the Holy Spirit; do not be a fool who thinks he is spiritually okay.

The foolish virgins have proven that you cannot depend on others' oil, even if they are your parents, you must have oil in your lamp and in an extra vessel to be prepared. Spiritual preparation and growth cannot be inherited or transferred.

The unexpected delay of the Bridegroom reveals that our preparedness and faith is exposed during crisis. How prepared are you for Christ's second coming? If you are not, come to Jesus now, do not wait until the eleventh-hour to amend your ways.

Quote: "Our preparedness is exposed in crisis"

Chɑllenge: "Be intentional in building your spiritual life"

Prɑyer: "Help me Lord, to be found worthy and ready when You come"

MENTORSHIP SKILLS
TEXT: 1 TIMOTHY 1:1-10

"Unto Timothy, my own son in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord" (1 TIMOTHY 1:2).

Paul Borthwick said, "Spiritual health demands a friend who will walk alongside us, speak truth to us (even when it hurts), and keep us honest in our relationships with God and with other people."

Notable contemporary God's generals followed the guidance of John Wesley, Charles Finney and others through reading their books. They in turn have mentored thousands of Christian soldiers.

Mentorship is the guidance and empowerment provided by an experienced person to an inexperienced fellow by sharing God-given resources.

Paul's commitment to keeping the gospel untainted led him to transferring his knowledge and skills to Timothy, so that Timothy could guard it, pass it on to other faithful men and keep the Church unpolluted from false doctrine.

Paul tutored and supported the young Timothy in many ways. These are skills required of spiritual fathers or mothers. Christians are to mirror God to the world.

As young believers, learn from experienced faithful mentors, and then be a parent, leader and companion to new converts growing to become disciples. Leave footprints that will inspire others to believe in God.

Quote: "Inspire others to believe"

Chɑllenge: "Look for a worthy mentor to facilitate your spiritual growth"

Prɑyer: "O Lord, may all who come behind me find me faithful"

ABRAHAM'S FAITH
TEXT: ROMANS 4:1-9

"For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness" (ROMANS 4:3).

One of the hymns we grew up singing is:

"Living by faith in Jesus above,
Trusting, confiding in His great love;
From all harm safe in His sheltering arm,
I'm living by faith and feel no alarm."

Abraham was a pagan before God called him, he believed God wholeheartedly and attained a right standing before God. Our salvation is obtained by faith and not by deeds or actions of obeying the Ten Commandments.

Abraham had faith in God and believed His promises. His faith in God was true, trusting and God glorifying; it's the type of faith that makes us children of God.

We must believe in the saving grace of Christ for Him to forgive our sins. Our faith in Christ and His atoning blood grants us righteousness and reconciliation with God, "For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness..." (Romans 10:10).

God imputes the righteousness of Christ to a sinner who believes, and then he enjoys the Abraham's kind of blessings - protection, prosperity, good health and long life.

Quote: "His faith in God was true"

Chɑllenge: "Let your faith be active like Abraham's"

Prɑyer: "Help me to stand faultless before You, O God"

NOAH'S FAITH
TEXT: HEBREWS 6:1-7

"Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God" (HEBREWS 6:1).

Leah Sharibu, aged 14 was abducted on February 19, 2018 and was asked to renounce her Christian faith as a condition for her release by her abductors; but she held on to her faith. Her demonstration of faith aligns with the song of F. W. Faber and H. F. Hemy titled: "Faith of our Fathers."

Noah was a man of unwavering faith in God; he maintained purity in spite of his impure environment and morally crippled world at his time. He was the only one God found perfect. God's judgment (destruction by flood) came upon the apostate world, and only Noah and his immediate family got saved. Apostasy occurs with constant and wilful sinning against God.

Christians can fall away from the faith, subjecting Christ to public disgrace and destroying the foundation of repentance that it becomes impossible to return to God like the people in the days of Noah. To avoid this, be careful, prayerful and watchful over your motives, thoughts and desires. Maintain complete dependence on God and seek more of His holiness. New converts in Christ should strive for perfection and Christian maturity.

Quote: "Maintain complete dependence on God"

Chɑllenge: "You can maintain purity and faith in God all your life"

Prɑyer: "Help me Lord, to live and walk in faith like Noah"

REMEMBER LOT'S WIFE
TEXT: LUKE 17:29-33

"Remember Lot's wife. Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his life shall preserve it" (LUKE 17:32-33).

John W. Peterson thought of eternity when he penned down these lines:

"Don't turn around to the things you left behind,
All those bridges you burned don't try to find,
Set your face like a flint and walk right on to the Promise Land,
Don't turn around to the things you left behind."

God warned Lot and his family to escape; and instructed them not to look back, but his wife disobeyed and incurred God's judgment - she became a pillar of salt. This teaches us that wilful disobedience leads to definite fearful judgment.

Jesus made reference to Lot's wife as He warns of the impending sudden and dreadful judgment on this sinful world. Lot's wife had her heart and affection on perishable, worldly treasures. She was privileged to escape Sodom's destruction, made effort to be saved, yet perished because her heart was not right with God. You can be saved by receiving Jesus as your personal Saviour and Lord. To escape the eternal condemnation, cling to Christ: do not look back to the glitters of sin.

Quote: "Cling to Christ: do not look back"

Chɑllenge: "Be sure of your salvation and warn lost sinners"

Prɑyer: "Lord, help me to be heaven conscious and focused"

TEXT: JAMES 4:1-4

"Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God" (JAMES 4:4).

Thomas Guthrie said, "If you find yourself loving any pleasure more than your prayers, any book better than the Bible, any house better than the house of the Lord, any table better than the Lord's Table, any persons better than Christ, or any indulgence better than the hope of heaven - be alarmed."

In this world of changing values and fashions, believers are expected to live a life of non-conformity to the world. We are in the world but not of the world. God warns us against friendship with the world because it pollutes. The goals of the world are self-fulfilment, self-will and pleasure-seeking, all of them are antagonistic to God, His Word and His will.

If you have made heaven your goal, you should steer clear of all forms of worldliness. In dressing, appear clean, graceful, decent and modest. Shun worldly pleasures and amusements such as worldly music, dancing and parties. Loving anything more than God means gaining the world at the expense of your soul, those who love and please God will abide forever.

Quote: "Shun worldly pleasures and amusements"

Chɑllenge: "Please God in all things and not self or men"

Prɑyer: "O God, help me to press on until Jesus comes!"
