http://m.premiumtimesng.com/news/164579-u-s-ambassador-visits-emir-of-kano.html The U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria, James Entwistle, on Tuesday visited the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, in his palace in Kano Mr. Entwistle congratulated the Emir on behalf of himself and the American people. He said he believed the new Emir is capable of uniting the people of Kano and Nigeria as a whole. The Kano Emir thanked Mr. Entwistle and the U.S. government for the visit. He said he would do his best to unite the people of Kano and Nigerians. The two men then went into a closed-door meeting. Mr. Sanusi, the immediate past Governor of Nigeria’s Central Bank, was announced as the Emir of Kano by the state governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, on June 8. Few months to the end of his tenure as Central Bank chief, Mr. Sanusi was suspended as governor of the bank by Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan, in February. The Bank chief had before then raised allegations that billions of dollars were not being remitted to government account by the state oil company, NNPC. While investigations into the allegations were ongoing, the president fired the former CBN boss, accusing him of “financial recklessness”. Mr. Sanusi challenged his removal in court. He however withdrew the case after emerging Emir. The Nigerian government is yet to congratulate the Emir on his appointment.
