How To Lose An Election - The Ekiti Example by AkoEja: 9:59pm On Jul 10, 2014
The recent elections in a Ekiti state is a good example of how to lose an election. The governor-elect did not win the election, rather the incumbent governor lost it.

The administration of Fayemi is a good example of how to lose friends and alienate the people!

It is easy to blame the electorate, and start accusing them of accepting bribes for votes, in most cases this is not true.

The people are not fools, they generally will not sell their votes for bags of rice, just like that; especially in a secret ballot.

The only time you will see people seemingly giving up their votes because they have been bribed is when they feel they are under threat (Either their life is under threat or their livelihood)
When you analyse what the current government has done in terms of development, you would think winning the election will be a foregone conclusion.
However when you analyse how the governor has behaved and treated the people over the 4 years, you will not be surprised that he lost the election so badly in spite of his performance.Instead of building bridges, he destroyed them!

I hope the APC leadership will learn a lesson from what happened in Ekiti state, and start making corrections before the other state elections and national elections.

They are too arrogant, and if they are not careful, the Ekiti experience will be repeated all over the country!
Many of us want PDP out, but if APC continues like this, they are are certainly going to lose.

In most of the APC states, you get wanton harassment of ordinary people in the name of banning street trading, even when they know people are struggling and cannot find jobs. You have vehicle inspection officers harassing drivers especially commercial drivers, extorting money from them. If you mistakingly park your car wrongly, which I agree is wrong, you get such a hefty fine that sometimes it is better to leave your vehicle with them, rather than collect it. Punishing a simple traffic offence, should not result in losing your livelihood. Punishment should serve as a deterrent, rather than a way to destroy the offender.

Yorubas (Or any tribe for that matter)are not idiots, the excesses of Tinubu are too glaring for all to see. Everything seem to be done to benefit his family - all the children, in-laws etc, are holding one political office or the other in various states. He virtually own Lagos already.
If something is not done fast, Yorubas will rebel, and bring back PDP, Or any other party that seem able to win; Irrespective of whether they believe the new party is better or not.

This article in the Guardian goes into more specifics, and I implore you to read it. Here is the link.....
