…rejects proposal to remove fuel subsidy
Condemns Emir of Kano, Sanusi

The Senate yesterday delcared that the alleged $498.bn missiing oil proceeed are intact just as it opposed a fresh proposal to remove fuel subsidy.

The proposal to remove subsidy was made as senators considered the report of the joint Committees on Finance and Banking and Currency, which investigated the alleged missing of $49.8bn from the Federation Account and opposed the recommendation of the committee that fuel subsidy should be removed.

This was also as the lawmakers advised President Goodluck Jonathan to prepare and present to the National Assembly a supplementary budget “to cover the expenditure in the sum of N90.6bn for PMS (premium motor spirit) subsidy 2012 and N685.9bn for kerosene subsidy expended without appropriation by the National Assembly.”

While rejecting the idea of fuel subsidy removal now, the Senate advised the government to instead, ensure adequate punishment for those defrauding the nation under the guise of fuel subsidy claims.

The lawmakers lamented that a number of cases against subsidy fraud seem to have been abandoned in the court.

The former Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, had alleged that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, had failed to remit $49.8bn to the Federation Account over a 19-month period

Who knows the amount of money that have gone missing between when SLS brought the missing $20billion to our attention and now.

We are focused in the past but nobody is looking at the loopholes which allowed that amount to go missing in the first place thereby allowing them to continue their evil deeds.

Which means the money exist but not in cbn account right. It's either the money was never there or it was but not remitted into the cbn account.

So where is the money now? Federation account or foreign account?

N698 bn was spent on Kerosene subsidy without appropriation ie not provided and another N90bn was spent on PMS subsidy without being budgeted for? So where did about N800bn come from in 2012?

^^^Things are not always right here! Why?

How can you ascertain that the money is not missing, whereby it hasn't been accounted for?

Isn't is right to first request from the President how the money was spent or expended (breakdown of the expenses and other evidence(s)), before they draw at a "reasonable conclusion"?

They have even concluded the outcome before seeking for proof!?

Working from the answer to question, so sad!!!

I just hate seeing that aspect that subsidy was paid on kerosene after a presidential directive to stop such payments and when there are no known beneficiaries. Imagine the next poo, prepare a suplimentary budget to cover....bla bla bla. Please if any nairalander have bought kerosene at the subsidized rate, he/she should let us know, cos seems ghosts have been making use of kerosense since GEJ administration
