Are you in search of opportunities limited in your current position? Or Are you faced with unemployment? It may be reasonable for you to consider your career path. Ability to research options, realize your strengths, and acquire new skills, and as well summon the courage to make change can help you discover the career that might match with your interest. In this thread, you are going to learn 5 tips that can help you to choose your career and develop it successfully.

Tip 1. Discover Occupations matching your interests: We all naturally have our interests, a lot of things that we can do easily. Though we are capable of doing some other things, but there are certain things that give us absolute satisfaction when we do them. What do you enjoy doing and how can they be applied to a job? The key to choosing the right career obviously lie in identifying your natural interests. So, how can you convert your interests into a new career?
Making research has proven to be the ultimate means of discovering careers that relate to many things that you are always interested to do. This can be achieved in the following ways;
A. Career Tests: There are different tools on internet that can help you discover your career. Though, the help of self assessments, quizzes and questions may not actually tell you what your career might be, but they can help you discover certain significant information about your career, things you enjoy doing and where you excel. Search for a link to different online career tests, fill the required information in the form you will be provided with, and you will be amazed to the career that relate to what you enjoy doing.
B. Researching Specific Careers: In a case where you have discovered some specific Careers, you may leverage on resource information online. Through the information you can get, you will be able to know the full description of positions about the career or job, the average salaries and estimated future growth. It can also help you discover other physical priorities such as;
• The stability of the field you are considering.
• Are you comfortable with the risks involved?
• Do you accept the salary range?
• What about commute distances?
• Will you have to relocate for training or a new job?
• Will the new career or job affect your family?
C. Get Support and Information from others: When you have chosen a career, you can source for more information from someone that is already working in your chosen field. This will help you to actually understand what type of work you will be doing and if it meets your expectations. It will enable you gain connections in the area of your chosen career, and possibly enable you get a job in the future.
You can as well consider career counseling, mostly if you are considering a major career shift.

Tip 2: Evaluate your skills
After you have idea of your career path, it is time to identify what skills you have and what skills are needed. Note, you already have skills known as transferable skills to start with. These skills can be applied to almost any field, and some examples are;
• Written and oral communication.
• Public speaking.
• Management and leadership experience.
• Research and program planning.
What are your transferable career skills?
To discover your transferable skills, consider the following;
 Don’t focus only on your experience at work. When you are thinking about your skills, you should consider all the various activities you have ever engaged with including, hobbies, volunteering and life experiences. Example; even though you may not have formal teaching experience or certification, the ability to impact knowledge to others may be a sign that you putting the skill into practice.
 List your accomplishment that might fit in. You just want to count what skills you have. It can be a tremendous confidence booster to realize all of the skills you have developed.
 Brainstorm with reliable friends, colleagues, or mentors. They may assist to discover transferable skills you have overlooked or better still help you to articulate these skills in the future.
