FOLLOWING the development in the state, the Nasarawa State governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, on Tuesday, left Lafia, the state capital, around 4.00 p.m to Abuja, to seek intervention of the presidency over the purported impeachment planned for him by the state House of Assembly

The lawmakers, who had since Monday left for Abuja, for fear of being attacked by the loyalists of the embattled governor, were said to be adamant on the impeachment move, if the governor failed to furnish them accordingly.

It was learnt further that the two gladiators, who had shifted base to Abuja, would not come back to Lafia, the state capital, until after the seven-day ultimatum issued the governor to answer the 16-count charge on extra-budgetary expenses had lapsed.

The situation, however, has created panic and palpable fear among the general public.

It was learnt that the clerk of the assembly, Mr Ego Maikeff, had been prevented by security operatives from gaining access to the Government House on Shendam Road, to serve the governor the impeachment notice.

When the Nigerian Tribune visited the House of Assembly between 11.00 a.m and 12.30 p.m on Tuesday, none of the lawmakers was on seat, but informed source confided in the Nigerian Tribune that the lawmakers were under threat of attack, so they had to leave for safety.

In a telephone conversation with the Nigerian Tribune, the press secretary to the speaker, Ibrahim Tanko, said the lawmakers had sat at the plenary, deliberated and taken a decision, adding that “the issue of whether they had fled or not was immaterial at this moment.”

Addressing newsmen, however, the clerk confirmed that he was prevented from entering the Government House by security operatives at the entrance, in an effort to serve the impeachment notice on the governor as directed by the speaker.

He maintained that he was denied access to the Government House when he drove to the gate at about 3.30 p.m and 10.00 a.m on Monday and Tuesday respectively.

According to him, the assembly would be left with no option but to serve the impeachment notice on the governor through the media.

While reacting on behalf of the state government, on Tuesday evening, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Public Affairs, Abdulhamid Kwara said “officially, we are yet to receive impeachment notice. We still expect its arrival.”

APC rogues are not different from PDP but it is wrong for any body to try to forcefully turn the country into a one-party state. A one-party state is worse than military dictatorship, Jona-daft is trying to do that and the end will not be a tea-party for anyone.
