Doha: Hamad bin Khalifa Centre, funded by the Father Emir H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, opened in Danish capital Copenhagen yesterday.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs H E Dr Ghaith bin Mubarak Al Kuwari described the opening as a desire to get acquainted with the history of Denmark and the Muslim world.

Under the leadership of the Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Qatar spares no effort to highlight Islam’s value based on moderation to support serious dialogue among Muslims around the world and establish balanced relations between them and their non-Muslim neighbours, he said.

Dr Al Kuwari said Qatar contributes, with conviction, to positive initiatives for dialogue among cultures and civilisations and mutual understanding between peoples.

He said Qatar is happy to have supported this cultural project and hopes it to become a bridge to build confidence and achieve mutual understanding between Danish people and peoples of the Islamic world.

It is the first Islamic cultural centre in Denmark — the largest purpose-built mosque, including the country’s first minaret — and is managed by Danish Islamic Council.

Al-Hamdi presented Dr Al Kuwari with a memorial gift for the Father Emir from the Muslims of Denmark.

Qatar’s Ambassador to the Netherlands, Kahlid bin Fahad Al Khater, senior officials from the ministry, scholars and clerics were present.
