Justice has been done to the question. One thing, however, is that Universities are semi-autonomous and salaries vary from one to another but they all fall within the range stated in various replies up there. Lecturing is a sweet job but not a lucrative one. Merci |

if our energetic profs n lecturers can go home with this kind of salary package, I wonder why our political leaders should earn so big... political job shouldn't be lucrative in any way. 2 Likes |

Chylo: That amount is the whole package before tax and other deductions are done. The housing and other allowances have all been monetized and is included in that sum. By the time tax and other deductions are made a percentage of the money is gone. This person didn't post the income of the Assistant Lecturer which is lower than that. Take home pay for that cadre is about N120,000 |

jidxin: If you look at how many years lecturers spend to get the required education and how much we spend to publish journal papers and attend conferences, you will know that that salary is too little. I'm talking from experience. Promotion for lecturers in the university is dependent on the number of papers published. 2 Likes 1 Share |

DBriteLitehouse: They don't do that anymore unless your school is a whack school. Lecturers are intellectuals, 90% of them have other side legit businesses e.g hostel management, associate lecturing in other schools, etc |

jidxin: First of all, I'm not referring to Poly lecturers their requirements is very much lower than that required to lecture in a university. You say Masters for university lecturers. very funny. You may become a lecturer with Masters degree but you require a PhD to rise to the senior cadre. You can't rubbish that by saying you all do the same, it's far from it. Even for the PhD, most of us still use our salary to run the PhD, you cannot dismiss that with the wave of hand. So as a university lecturer, you cannot escape the PhD, unless the person is not interested in advancement. You say how many university lecturers publish papers. I laugh in Chinese! My brother, please get your facts right. 100% of university lecturers require published papers for promotion and you can also not dismiss that with a wave of the hand. And yes, every lecturer knows this and we always publish. University Lecturers are employed not only to teach, get that straight. A lecturer's duty is 1. Research, 2. Teaching and 3. Community service. In that order. We are supposed to contribute to the advancement of knowledge and teach from our research. So we all do research and publish our findings 15 Likes 2 Shares |

jidxin: It is impossible abeg. How annoying can this be? You can't even be a lecturer II without a PhD degree. If at all you're employed with masters as Lecturer II, you must have published enough papers to warrant it. You think being a senior Lecturer is a play thing? Get your facts right before displaying ignorance in public sir. Anyways, maybe that happens in Polys and Monos 5 Likes |

jidxin: Oh! Congratulations. You were among the last set that became senior lecturer without PhD, that's if you lecture in a university. But I doubt if you can go higher than that without a PhD and the relevant number of papers. My current HOD also became a Senior lecturer without PhD but he was at that level for almost 10 years before he obtained his PhD and became an associate prof. Nowadays, you are not allowed to get to Senior lecturer without obtaining a PhD. Since you're a lecturer, I wonder why you were saying "how many lecturers publish papers". |

Agnesgrace:seconded o. I'm trying to meet up my target with a very outstanding c.g.p.a. Firstly try to be close to all the lecturers, you can escort them to the office after lectures with their bags, briefcases etc, and run some few errands for them be punctual to classes and try to attain an impressive record of at least 90% of attendance in classes, follow up all courses in the department. Be acquainted with the department and all staffs and lastly be brilliant and try to convince them that you possess the qualities of being a lecturer, tell them about it, so that after your graduation you wont be stranded. Those are my few points. Anyone else to help? 1 Like |
