I am now considering to go for Volkswagen Passat 2006/2007 but, 4plugs. Please, how good is my decision?

If I had to choose between the two, I would choose the Toyota avalon because it is one Toyota that is not too common and commands respect. Ease of use, reliability and maintenance wise, the avalon takes it.

The passat on the other has a better build quality than the avalon, not too common but the reliability is what I can't depend on. The interior is wonderful and what I cherish in that car is the gear shape, small and appealing. Also I have seen more passat in the garage than avalon and they are also priced quite cheaper than avalon I wonder why

I'll take the Passat, the V6. Probably a better handling car, better shaped (in my opinion).

Compare mileage, cost and if possible maintenance history. That is a strong key when buying a used car.

Since our mechanics manually tighten screws and bolts, I would wager that any part that has been changed out will get bad again. Maybe car parts for the avalon may be slightly cheaper but to make a choice, sit inside both of them on two separate days and you will make a choice.

Maintenance costs post purchase is a lottery with used cars since both cars are nice to drive, the choice should be done with the three factors I wrote earlier

Go for the Passat jor especially if you are still a young man. Sharp and smart car. That Avalon is too big. It's meant for Royal Kings that want to show off. Good car though!
Re: Volkswagen Passat 2006/2007 4plugs. Advice! by Nobody: 6:42pm On Jul 24, 2014
Go find yourself a Toyota Rav4 but if it has to be one of these two then the Avalon.

This is not saying that the Passat is bad but it is my opinion that Nigerian roads are not friendly to FWD VWs.

Another unreasonable question but since it your first car I suggest you do research and compare online using sites like yahoo and msn autos.

Advice from someone who can barely afford Corolla will be inadequate

For better value it will be Avalon. If you can afford those cars the least of your criteria is fuel economy.

But drive both first and see which one feels better

The 3.5l v6 engine in that Avalon is next to bullet proof, pretty fast and fuel efficient, as for the passat, well just visit carcomplaints dot com, the Avalon is definitely a more reliable car. if you treat it (regular fluid changes with the required fluids not abro atf and wrong viscosity engine oil ) it would run like new everyday. the passat is a better handling car though. i don't think you would be driving either at a race track so that shouldn't be much of an issue. i'd give the Avalon a score of 8.8 and the passat a 7.5 over 10

The only reason I guess people have no mentioned it here the Passat handles better is due to the fact that the Avalon is such a large car (almost if not as large as an S Class Mercedes). So keep that in mind. Passat as aforementioned is a Camry and Accord Competitor. The Avalon is in a class of its own.

Looks can be deceiving and it's tedious arguing with facts even though Nairalanders will do that.

The Passat has trims that are 100 pounds lighter than the Avalon and also trims that are heavier than the Avalon.

Automotive design engineers typically go to great lengths to change the visuals sometimes when the need to correct a perception.

The thing is you can't argue against facts.

It's amazing what the result of changing the waist line of a car, pinching the sides etc and also rocker panel design can do to who a car looks from the outside.

Some cars look big on the outside but are cramped on the inside. While some cars like the Mini Cooper looks small on the outside but are actually big on the inside.

The data is out there we just need to find it.

Did you know? the Avalon would hit 60MPH in a little over 6 seconds (that's less than the time it takes you to read this post) while retuning close to 30mpg?(highway) you cant go wrong with that cool

Even though the Avalon has 268hp it only beats the Passats 200hp by 0.2 seconds in 0-60.

That's by the length of a bumper.

so it means the Passat has better power to weight ratio? Who knows the top speed of both? I'm sure the Passat is faster...talking about the 200hp 2.0T

LOL you guys are funny.

In any case, when I picture Avalon, I picture a successful older male.

When I picture Passat, I picture a male in his 30s or 40s who is on the verge of success.

I disagree, the Avalon does not have all that royal attributes, talk about a Mercedes e class, then I'll agree, a contemporary 2006 e class...

E-class, a Lexus GS, BMW 5 series, and Audi A6 competitor has too many mechanical issues for me to talk about it. Avalon is cheaper than the Mercedes E-class, but it is far more reliable. The funny thing is that I don't like most Avalons. I only like the 2005 - present day Avalons because they truly look big and imposing.

For one reason and one reason only I would ask you to go for the Avalon that is if you can't find a Passat 2.0 the 2.0T requires premium fuel hence octane boosters.

So I would advise the V6. For a young guy the Passat would be sleeker and easy to manoeuvre for a first time car user the Avalon is a bit too long and too wide.

Brother, I've driven the 2006 Toyota Avalon and it's got all the comfort needed in a car; enough room space, powerful, reliable, durable, prestigious, runs smooth. I recommend the 2006 Toyota Avalon over the 2006 Volkswagen Passat.
