Less than three weeks to the Osun State governorship election, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has lost one of its top chieftains, Colonel Olayiwola Talabi (rtd), who defected with hundreds of his supporters to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The defection which took place at Ikire also saw the flag bearer of the PDP, Senator Iyiola Omisore, pledging to implement immediate anti- poverty measures if elected governor in the August 9 governorship poll.

Announcing his defection, Talabi told a large crowd at the rally that he quits the APC because of its anti- people policies and the marginalisation of local leaders in favour of Lagos based political actors.

Lamenting the failure of the Aregbesola government to positively touch the lives of the people, Talabi said he could no longer explain to the people the many failures of the government to fulfil its promises to the people of the state to him: "I quit because I am fed up with servitude, with failed promises, with anti- people programmes, and with bad leadership. I am now convinced that Senator Iyiola Omisore is the right man to take the state out of the present mess and rebuild it from the destruction witnessed under the APC governorship."

Meanwhile, the governorship candidate of the PDP, Senator Omisore, lamented the deepening poverty crisis rocking Osun State, wondering why the people should be suffering in the midst of abundance.

Responding to the Lamentations of town people during the rally, the governorship candidate said he empathised with the hard time the people of the state are passing through, attributing the situation to capital flight occasioned by the poor policies of the APC government.

According to Omisore, "the penchant of the APC government to service its Lagos cronies has killed the local economy, impoverish the people and stifled their means of livelihood. We will boost the local economy, enhance the livelihoods of the people and implement anti-poverty programme."

He assured those who decamped into the party that what sent them out of the APC will not happen in the PDP, explaining that a PDP government under his leadership will be people-centred and people-oriented.

Osun elections will be keenly contested , no party is sure of victory yet, unlike ekiti where it was obvious from the beginning that fayose would win

Bye bye Col. Talabi. Well done Omisore for absorbing a liability. No more comment until after the election.

nothing was obvious in ekiti before the election because APC e-rats never allowed people to know what was on ground due to their false propaganda on fayose

anyone who is a keen observer of nigeria politics will know that pdp was going to win thatt election. Have u taken a closer look at the choice of candidates gej has been supporting?and even taken a closer look at some of his recent ministerial appointees ,one would know that the plan to retake the south west had begun. Osun case will be the decider and if apc lose that election ,that is the end .

It is Colonel Olayiwola Falabi and not talabi. We are from thesame town and I'm right here to make what seems ambiguous to you very clear now.

Colonel Layi Falabi is the immediate younger brother to the Akire of Ikire, he retired from the military just few years ago and PDP was the 1st party he joined when he retired. He nursed the senatorial ambition and was not given and that's why he left PDP when Aregbesola was restored as Osun state Governor and now he is going back to his vomit.

Colonel Layi Falabi has no supporters in Ikire as far as Election is concerned, he joined the PDP alone and with no supporters. You can quote me wrong by posting pictures from the campaign. PDP is a dead party in Ikire, irewole local Government and the twin town Apomu, isokan local government.

Colonel Layi Falabi cannot win his polling boot for PDP let alone of the whole town.

He doesn't own PDP. People are free to to leave any party and the party that wins today can lose tomorrow. No party is a winner forever. All those screaming success of APC what have they really gained since the success? Nothing. The fact that you are still replying and talking about him shows how bitter you are and how relevant he is.
