The Enugu zone of the Court of Appeal today dismissed the appeal brought before it by Chris Ngige, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the November 16, 2013 election. Mr. Ngige had asked the appeal court to overturn the verdict of the Anambra State Governorship Election Tribunal that had earlier upheld the election of Willie Obiano of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) as the Anambra governor. Mr. Obiano was sworn in in March 2014 to succeed former Governor Peter Obi, also of APGA.

Justice Mohammed Lawal Garba led a panel of five justices in considering the appeal filed by Mr. Ngige who sought a ruling setting aside the verdict of the tribunal and a determination that the election had failed to comply with electoral laws.

In rejecting all the grounds of appeal filed by the APC candidate, the appellate court ratified the election that brought Mr. Obiano into office.

Today’s verdict marks the final stage of any legal challenge to the election of Mr. Obiano.

APC is always fond of using 'ajaguda' court judgements to assume leadership positions. They can never win elections on a neutral ground

The judgment is in line with the psychological rectitude of Anambra people and the people of the south eastern Nigeria despite the catholicity of irregularities that mar the election. The judges just play along to aviod bad taste. On the other hand, Its quite simple that APC allowed itself to be pigeon holed as a sectional party agitating for Northern hegemony despite the input of southerners in the south west. Her popularity is questionable in the south east and south south. Ngige naturally could have become the governor today if not for the unsellable party he associated self with.
