Lordscrown: its land rover freelander 2001. I thought as much. I would say, let it go. Search online, and even here on a Nairaland. I've written enough about the Land Rover Freelander to fill a thick book. The faults / defects of the Series 1 Freelander are legendary, and can NOT be over stressed. I've been in the Motor Trade (Garage Service) for as long as I can remember. And I've never come across a more unreliable vehicle. The Rover K / KV series are the first and last word on unreliable. The only engine worth going for is the BMW-sourced 2.0 TD4, but this was only fitted towards the end of 2003. If you still insist on buying this White Elephant, good luck to you. But you would be better off giving the funds to charity, or putting it into a blast furnace, and watching it BURN. 3 Likes |

Lordscrown: its land rover freelander 2001. Run as fast as you can, ivoryhorse open a thread about this car. It a lemon the k series engines eats the gasket for breakfast that was also the killer engine in rover 75. It has a great body most of them retain and their good body structure believe me a lot of them you see in naija are running on converted Toyota engine and transmission thanks to our naija mechanics. Find something more reliable!! |

smartchoice: The whole idea of buying a car, is to enjoy it. As in, get in, turn the key, start and drive. Not go through the hassle of carrying out an alien engine and transmission swap before it can be used. All this costs money, that could be spent buying a decent car. World wide, it is known as a lemon. Even Rover had to concede, and admit it was not one of their best creations. It cost millions in warranty payouts all through production. The engine was the worse single component, though there were over 100 faults listed in total. Believe me, the whole world (and Rover themselves) can't all be wrong, that the 1st gen. Freelander was a financial and engineering disaster. |

Why not just get a toyota. If u going to eventually change it to a toyota engine....im sorry I'm going to have commit a fallacy cos I've not seen all the freelanders users in Nigeria....but everyone I've seen really enjoying that car have resulted in changing in to 1996 camry engine popularly called orobo....dont get me wrong...freelanders is cool...very cute nd elegant body....but I just feel Dat car wasn't built for naija weather...... 1 Like |

Siena:I agree with Sienna. The guy who does transmissions for me has a landrover freelander which he says doesn't give isdues, i know for certain that the 2001 has issues all round. I suggest you buy a different year or better still go for another landrover. Guys please quit asking him to buy a toyota, what has oranges and banana got in common? 1 Like |
