Ebola: Why Is Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu (minister For Health)still Keeping His Job? by jpphilips(m): 6:27pm On Aug 04, 2014
I ask this question because the last time Nigerians lost their lives in droves in the Hands of Boko haram loads of officials in the defense ministry were either, retired or dismissed.

One may think that this "Ebola soon to be an epidemic" in Nigeria is an act of "god", in the parlance of the religious pundits, but then, if the facts before us are carefully subjected through the clinical prognosis of common sense, a whole lot of discerning minds will agree completely with me that Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu, does not deserve to be addressed as a minister of this great republic.

I personally could still remember vividly few months ago when Jakumo opened a thread on how close this virus is to Nigeria, of course, we don't expect a "whole" professor and "Minister" to have time for a microcosm like Nairaland which happens to be a representation of a microscopic Nigerian populace.

What bothered me greatly, was the Fact that news agencies Like CNN, Aljazeera and the BBC have been releasing updates on the spread and the WHO efforts in containing the scourge, yet our Amiable prof, and unfortunate minister was too big to turn on the Television.

At the very least appeal for leniency in any sane nation where common sense has not been torpedoed by tribal and political sentiments, the WHO news bulletin of 29th July 2012 is an evidence of gross neglect by the health minister, between 1st of August 2012 to 20th of August 2012, Ebola has spread through three West African countries (Uganda, sierra Leone and the Congo) respectively.
Even if this unfortunate Minister is Allergic to Television, does it mean that a serving health minister does not even read the WHO news bulletin?
it is absurd, opprobrious and totally unacceptable, this nation is sinking very fast with the crop of inefficiencies it is parading as public officers.

A careful perusal of the 2013 budget, revealed that Our unfortunate minister budgeted 74,980,348naira for magazines and journals, little did we know that he finds it difficult to keep abreast with WHO news bulletin which happens to be FREE online.
Do I need to mention that the same Inefficiency of this man is the major reason, doctors have been on strike.

Find below an excerpt quote from a breakdown in the 2013 budget, and how much we have spent so far, does it not amaze Nigerians that all entry points in this country have no emergency response strategy even when a contagious virus was just few thousands kilometers away? Pay attention to the bold parts, where our revered Minister listed familiar epidemics, but his so out of touch with the reality across his border probably undermined a deadly virus like Ebola, need I remind us that this column of Prof chukwu's budget is costing the Nigerian Tax payers 480,416,005:

EPIDEMIOLOGY:HEALTH EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS AND RESPONSE TO EPIDEMICS(CSM, MENINGITTIS, CHOLERA, LASSA FEVER, HINTFLUETC) INCLUDING PROCUREMENT AND DISTRIBUTION OF EMERGENCY DRUGS TO EPIDEMIC PRONE STATES;(B)SUPPORT TO
THREE(3)NUMBER VIROLOGYLAB AT IRRUA,IBADAN,MAIDUGURI AND ESTABLISHMENT OF ONE(1)NUMBERVIROLOGY LAB AT ABAKALIKI.(C) INTEGRATED DISEASE SURVEILLANCE,IMPLEMENTATION OF IDSR FOR EPIDEMIC PRONE AND COMMUNICABLE DISEASES.(D)EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS AND RESPONSE TO TRAUMA.

The inefficiencies in the north eastern part of the country is the reason over 5,000 irreplaceable lives have been lost, yet Nigerians are folding arms hoping on God. The Saudi Arabian Government in April fired its health minister Abdullah al Rabiah at the outbreak of the mers corona virus, we should at this point learn the need for a level of discipline to be enshrined in our public servants.

If Nigerians let this dark era of our history slide without Consequences, then I will believe that we as a nation lack knowledgeable people, we will lose all moral right to ask a Mikel who could not complete a pass while Doning the National Jersey,to score goals in a an international tournament.

After the last weeks denial that no Nigerian is infected with the deadly virus, it baffled and tore my heart to shreds that a man who is conferred upon him with the highest title in the Academic world, could go on air to make such premature claim on the Viral spread, ignoring completely the fact that the incubation period of the virus is between 2 to 21 days. I doubt if Professor chukwu actually passed through a trado medicine class let alone the college of Medicine.

Here is WHO's assessment of the Nigerian situation, it clearly states that four people are already down with the virus as at 1st of august,2014 which includes a nurse.

If this is not a clear case of an Administrator who has lost touch with the reality in his ministry, I wonder what is?

perhaps most Nigerians are oblivious of the fact that Senegal and Cote d Ivore geographically located closest to the Epicenter, till August this year, are yet to register a single Ebola case.

Prof. Onyebuchi chukwu should go back to school because evidently, Politics and administration is no where near his miniature talents, President Jonathan should kindly do the needful in the interest of public safety.

Ebola has been in Africa since 1976, no African country bothered to look for a cure, in 2003 the United states DOD (God bless America Anyways!!) supported its research with a meager $25m and today they have Zmapp, guess what you have; Begging and ranting on the internet, shameless fvcktards!!,

Is it $25m we cant afford? or a research center that private companies own? what exactly is the problem with Africans and Nigerians?
the money stolen from NNPC in a year is enough to get these things done yet we are here whining over America this, America that.
Look at the clown you have as a health minister, he sounds so confused, looks helpless, talks like a mechanic.

Do I blame him? of course not, instead of the President giving him a query for such unprofessional comment, the confused president was calling late Patrick sawyer names, as if he has a panel to face in resurrection.

Onyebuchi chukwu is a disgrace to Medicine, he told us that all the 8 Ebola quarantine patients are stable and responding to treatment, two days on; Justina the Nurse died.

Before July, there was neither an Infra red thermometer nor a bio hazard suit in any entry point in this country, yet Nigerians are blaming the United states!!

How about demanding professionalism and accountability from people who pilot the affairs of this nation?

How can the Minister tell Nigerians that he has a "drug" Nano silver for our Ebola patients, you people don't know the kinda mess these guys are making till you become a victim, what stops Chukwu from getting clarification from FDA first before coming to misinform Nigerians? it took the Intervention of the FDA for Chukwu to agree to proceed with the recommendation of his committee, these are the kinda fvcktards we have in power and you expect serious countries to take us seriously?

A f00l who saw the test report of the Doctor and claim she has survived Ebola while WHO is saying she is a false positive, meaning she never had the Ebola virus, thank God for WHO quarantine guide lines, Chukwu would have infected her there, meanwhile, has already set Nigerians on a jubilation frenzy that one of theirs have survived the lethal virus, how worse can this shameless man get?

Lagos state (our Ebola Epicenter) is yet to receive a dime from the $11m intervention fund, yet, people are still holding America by the jugular,

The minister must go!!

He jumped the gun making that statement. Like most politicians, he tried to save face by claiming everything was in place to checkmate the entry of Ebola into the country. However, a VIP personnel with the virus was first flown to calabar then transferred to Lagos before dying. He came out again to claim that checkmates have been put in place to prevent it's spread. The next news was a corpse was transferred through the borders to a state that could still be effective.

“Nigeria is ready, because the Ministry has taken every precaution, including getting the vaccines and medicines in case there was any incident in Nigeria. “So far, there is nothing like Ebola fever in Nigeria, and Council was reassured that every step has been taken to ready our country just in case, infected persons come into the country from our neighbouring countries"

This Minister started the chaos in the Health sector. Everything was "ok" till he came in and destabilized the system. JOESHU asked for his removal then but it was seen as beef.

Now its clear he is a mess up and a disgrace to NMA. The world will be wondering if the health minister of a country could be talking trash, how will her medical workers be.

As for residency, the govt is just flexing muscle, it will be resolved "soon". But Docs should learn that when negotiating, you win some and lose some.
No profession in Nigeria is paid what it deserves, mayb politics(that's if it passes as a profession)
So Docs should relax and accept the offer for now to fight anoda day or they will keep shooting themselves on the foot.

But I know we have more qualified people to take up his position, but POLITICS
