The Federal Government says it is not against intermediaries that have offered to persuade the Boko Haram terrorist group to release over 200 Chibok Girls kidnapped in Borno State, April this year.

President Goodluck Jonathan told the Washington Times in USA, where he attend an African Leaders Summit convened by US President Barrack Obama, that the government welcomed the efforts of the intermediaries, stressing that all avenues would be explored to rescue the girls.

A statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Dr Doyin Okupe, quotes the President as saying that ”while appreciating the support of the international community in an ongoing rescue effort of Chibok Girls, their safety should be considered paramount in several methods of the operation”.
While describing a strict military approach to the rescue effort as ‘delicate’, President Jonathan said: “If it is to risk a few dead bodies, it is easier. You can blast the place and carry the corpses. But is that what we have to do? So it is delicate”.

According to the President, the Federal Government has information on the location of the kidnapped girls, but was being mindful of the consequences of invading the location to avoid a repeat of an episode in February 2013, in which an offshoot of Boko Haram killed 7 foreign hostages in Northern Nigeria before authorities could rescue them.

He believes members of the Islamist militant group are ready to die when dealing with such scenario. “It is different from an ordinary kidnapping by criminals or people who don’t want to die. So it is very, very delicate.”

President Jonathan, however, stressed that the dialogue option was not being ruled out, explaining that the government had set up a dialogue committee on the security challenge also in north, even before the Chibok girls were kidnapped.

“We have a team and we encourage people to assist them. Quite a number of people have come with different information. But none of them has yielded any results yet,” he said.

The President expressed the government’s commitment to winning the war against terrorism in Northern Nigeria as well as rebuilding the infrastructure destroyed by insurgents. He called on all leaders in the region to co-operate with the Federal Government and assist security agencies with necessary information to accomplish their mission of securing lives and property of citizens.

Indeed!!

Thesame president who commissions layabouts to label anybody who volunteers to help mediate in the crises Boko Haram is the one saying this rubbish!!

The president is so blinded by hate for faithfuls of Islam, just like the trolls they pay per post on the internet, and would be quick to ostracise anyone who dares to make any attempt at initiating dialogue and bring about an amicable end to this mess so Nigerians to go back to living normal lives.

What did they say about Buhari when the sect unilaterally chosed him to speak to the govt on their behalf?? Yet they never called Wole Soyinka a militant when the militants chosed him to represent them in talks with the government.

The government by its own doing makes it very difficult for anyone to volunteer help!!

Mr President made a point tho'. What happened to those foreigners in feb was bad.

Boko Haram is ready to kill them and kill themselves too.

I just hope Mr President would be fast in seeking third alternative rescue operation strategy before it's too late. He doesn't have to wait for different groups to bring their ideas or strategies.

He can be proactive about it. Take the initiative, search out world's best secret services in rescue operations (there are many of them), consult them, pay them if you have to, and implement the best!

This abduction case should have been over by now Mr President, there are so many other critical national issues coming up. You are the President of Nigeria, the first real civilian president after Yar'Adua in a long time, and Nigeria is passing through some delicate but transformational phase, so you have to be FAST!.

If that had been over be4 now, you'd have concentrated all ur efforts on curtailing the recent Ebola Epidermic. Don't let problems compound for you so you don't become overwhelmed. Face each one and see it through to the end and be fast about it because another is on its way. That's proactiveness for God's sake!

As much as I'd love to say President Goodluck is clueless and nonchalant we have to see the truth. Boko-haram is beyond what most Nigerians think it is. It is a political war, Religious war, a means of obtaining power by some ruthless animals at the top and a way of dividing Nigeria into what they think it should be. Nigerians need to stop worshiping these politicians, we need to stop screaming their names and running after their campaign vehicles because of one bag of rice. Until we uphold our dignity and our pride, this people would continue exploiting us. They have successfully taken our human rights from us. May God lay his hands upon Nigeria and have mercy upon Africa.

Jonathan hired Salkida (Boko Hara leader's childhood friend) to negotiate on his behave. He even signed a presidential weaver to shield the man of any Boko Haram related prosecution. After several meetings, it was agreed that the women and children (mostly relatives of suspected Boko Haram members that were arrested because their husbands were not found) will be swapped in exchange for all the girls.

The negotiator Mr Salkida also brought a video message from Boko Haram showing all the children and their plea to the government. Just a day before the release (the day Jonathan went to Paris for a meeting - that was also when the Defense Hq claimed to know where the girls were held), President Jonathan called to suspend all discussions, negotiations and swap arrangement.

The question is why the decision to cancel? Was he hoping to lay hand on the money first? Was he pressured? By Who? Was the plan for military action? - So many unanswered questions.

116 Days later, Jonathan is now begging for a fresh negotiation. May God save us all from an unstable and inconsistent Leadership.

GEJ has spoken for the first time in a long time, as someone who knows what he's doing.

The unfortunate thing is that he has allowed the situation to deteriorate before realizing the monster this Boko Haram poses to our national security. Had he and his team taken immediate actions the moment these girls were kidnapped, we might not have been where we are now.

The only way I see out for these girls now is for the government to negotiate their release even if it means swapping them for relatives and family members of the captured "Boko Haramites". Further delay could be dangerous.
