Nigeria’s top artistes have joined hands with ace filmmaker, Tunde Kelani’s Maniframe Productions, CcHub Nigeria and Naija Medic247 and a handful of Nollywood directors to launch a multi media Ebola awareness programme, Lens On Ebola, writes BIODUN KUPOLUYI.
Lens On Ebola is one of the health campaign series on video PSAs produced by Kelani, using Nollywood’s star power to drive critical health messages.
The series which feature celebrities including: Tonto Dike, Desmond Elliott, Femi Sowoolu, Yomi Fash-Lanso, Sani Danja, Joke Silva, Steve Onu “Yaw”, Kunle Afolayan, Toyin Aimaku, O.C. Ukeje,Bayo Bankole, Halima Abubarka, Funky Mallam, Khabira Kafidipe, Seun Akindele, Gloria Mba, Sunex Chidiebube, and Ricardo Agbor was launched today, Tuesday, August 19.
The campaign dubbed“Stay calm, stay healthy. Get the facts, and share what you know”,would help Nigerians to keep safe and informed about Ebola. Lens on Ebola leverages the power of Nigerian media and entertainment to present clear, simple and actionable Ebola information.
The Lens on Ebola team came together to address the urgent and ongoing need in Nigeria for accurate information about Ebola. Lens On Ebola’s real time health information has been provided by the US Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Facebook is the Lens On Ebola campaign’s official social media partner, helping to amplifyEbola information throughout Nigeria and all countries impacted by Ebola, including Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia. Additional campaign partners include the African Center of Excellence for Genomics of Infectious Diseases (ACEGID) on strategy and production, Orature Lab on translation and BBCMedia Action on distribution.

In addition to video and radio PSAs, the campaign will include information graphics to be distributed freely as posters and flyers. Campaign PSAs and graphics have been produced in all relevant languages (English, Pidgin, Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo) and will be distributed for free – via web, TV, radio, and more.
Formed by a coalition of organizations in the spirit of collaboration, the campaign seeks to support and partner with all efforts to stop Ebola. Lens On Ebola aims to drive traffic to the great resources that already exist, including Ebola Alert ( www.ebolaalert.org) and the Free Hotline 0800EbolaHelp. Lens On Ebola is open to any inquiries regarding partnership for distribution and amplification of the campaign.
