Deploy These Cowards Away From Osun Because Her Residents Are Omoluabi's... by Ifedamolah(m): 4:50pm On Aug 08, 2014
The military has been deployed around strategic
locations in Osun State ahead of Saturday Poll.
Already, soldiers have taken strategic positions
across the state. Vehicles and motorcyclists were
yesterday being frisked at checkpoints mounted
by the soldiers.
Also visibly present are operatives of the
department of State security (DSS) who reports
available to Us in this Neighborhood are
mistaking the gubernatorial polls for war front as
there have been reported cases of the agency
shooting sporadically into the air with neither
confrontation, nor justification.
Observers, however, are frowning at the
deployment of soldiers during elections as some
experts claim it is a violation of the principles of
the military.
Before expatiating, I want to dispense with two
issues. The first is personal disclosure. I am from
Osun State and I am a Christian from a proudly
multi-religious family (my mum, and my siblings
are practising Christians while my Dad is a
Muslim).
I have never met or even discussed on the phone with any of the three leading candidates in the August 9 election, including the candidate of the Labour Party (LP), who is actually from my Hood, Osogbo Oroki. I am mightily proud of my
regional/religious identities, but they do not
define me as I passionately believe that the
interests of all will be better served in a
transparent and just Nigeria. I make these
disclosures because we live in a desperate and
dangerous time when some people’s sole survival strategy is impugning motives for positions that do not square with theirs.
The second issue is that there has been a very
disturbing attempt to insert Militarization into the politics of the South-western states from Ekiti and now Osun State solely as part of the 2015 game.
Addressing crowds of PDP supporters at the
Osogbo City Stadium, President Jonathan said
nothing will stop the heavy deployment of 18000
plus Military and security Presence in Osun State
for the August 9 governorship election. He said
the deployment was targeted at the security of
the lives and property of residents during the
election.
Yinka Gbadebo (NANS president) Said-----
While we support the move of the Federal
Government to mobilize security men to all the
nooks and crannies of Osun in order to ensure
that the election is free and fair, we wish to state
without any fear or favor that the security
situation in Osun State, as we speak, does not
warrant mobilizing the men of the Nigerian Army
for election purposes instead of its constitutional
role of maintaining and securing the country from any form of external aggression. Election is a civil matter, and our position is that it should be treated by people with civil minds.
“Election should not be made to look like a war.
The presence of soldiers in the state is uncalled
for, and I can assure you it will impact negatively
on the outcome of the election
Olaitan From Ede------
Moruf, an eyewitness who experienced the
invasion told The Paradigm he was ‘scared’. Moruf said “The soldiers came into town as if there was war going on. Sincerely I am scared I dnt even think me and my family Members will come out to Vote’.
