Increase in agriculture, but not food processing is key to national development OR Food processing,but not increase in agricultural production is key to national development Pls contribute to this debate,thanks. |

I will want to stand on the side of food processing: but truely one need to look at both w holistically, you cannot isolate one and leave the other. From experience here in nigeria, I realise that farmers go through a lot of stress to sell their farm produce. There is no system in place here to help a farmer produce then hands off sales. So you see a farmer produce here, plan his logistic then beg market women to buy at reasonable price. Processing earns more for a farmer, and for economic development it encourages serious entrepreneurship, more people are employed to cater for farm produce. |

If processing I high and dia isn't increase. In agric produce, you will have many machine down time in your processing as a result of shortage o unavailability of raw materials. So also if you have a high agric produce with little or no processing, wastage becomes inevitable. So they go hand in hand, in a direct proportionality. B extension, an increase in agriculture should imply an increase in processing. |
