The government of Liberia says that sample doses of the experimental Ebola drug ZMapp will be sent there to treat doctors who have contracted the deadly virus.
The White House and Food and Drug Administration approved the Liberian request for the drug to be made available to them.
Liberia identified itself as the recipient of the drug after the company that makes ZMapp said earlier that its supply was exhausted after fulfilling the request of a West African country, which it did not name.
The delivery of the ZMapp to Liberia follows a request made on Friday from Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf to President Barack Obama.
The sample doses will be brought to Liberia by a U.S. government representative this week, the Liberian government said.

I wonder why President Goodluck has not taken strong steps in getting these Experimental drugs to Nigeria to fight massive outbreak.

Canadian Tekmira and Japanese Fujifilm also have theirs. President Goodluck should have contacted these companies, including the ZMapp producers to support them to get these drugs ready in large scale.

Wonderful. Thought it was refused Nigeria before. If so, could this be because of anti-gay laws?

Or Our President should fly to America. Speak to the President of America Obama one on one. He should also discuss with Mapp head, the producers of the drugs and see what assistance he can give them to get the drug to Nigeria.

Note: The drugs sent to Liberia are free of charge. I believe if we help find them, they can produce more quickly and send it to Nigeria.

The question is, was it a request from the President of Nigeria?

I remember reading of the Health Minister making calls to get the drug. President Good luck should be on the matter.

Production of these drugs cost a lot of Money. President Goodluck said he has made 11 million dollars ready to fight the spread. Why not send some to them to produce the drug in large amount.

Three Million dollars will go a long way.

If it is easy to create, Spain would not have begged USA for the drug.

Re: Experimental Ebola Drug (ZMapp) On Its Way To Liberia by omenka(m): 5:57am On Aug 12, 2014
Why do I get this feeling this wouldn't be exactly thesame drugs that were given those white men

I get this queer feeling what is coming in is a modified version that could be used to genetically modify Africans perhaps make us dumber and perpetually under the thumb of the white man!!

Give it to a single member of the population of the species and have it spread throughout the population over the years!! Engineer it in such a manner it doesn't interact in thesame manner with the genes of whites.

Until our domestic scientists sit up and start creating home grown solutions to our problems, we would forever remain at the mercy of the Americans and Europeans! Only Africans themselves can have their own best interest at heart!! Anything else and what you get is a solution with a concealed bigger problem!!!

God help us.

Relax and let go of those unfounded conspiracy theories, Omenka, because the release to Africa of the ONLY effective treatment for the Ebola virus is a POSITIVE development that should be applauded.

The West now realizes that allowing Ebola to ravage metropolitan areas of Africa will DIRECTLY imperil ALL European countries with air-links to Africa, followed shortly thereafter by an inexorable spread of Ebola to the entire globe, which, if left un-checked, COULD conceivably result in a mass extinction of human life on planet Earth.

Africa owes a tremendous debt of gratitude to US President Obama, and all others who obviously prevailed on the Sand Diego company that manufactured the Ebola cure, reminding their board of directors that the very survival of the human race is at stake, and that now is NOT the time to be coy about sharing the chemical formula whose world-wide distribution will STILL enrich that company beyond its share-holders wildest dreams.

@Jakumo: This aint no conspiracy theory, this is reality check!

I'm realy not against them sending the "drug", I'm just against Africans constantly relying on the white man to figure out solutions to their problems. Pray tell, if the white man decides to shut their air, land and maritime borders against Africans over this outbreak, does it then mean that we've all on been literally placed on death row??

With all that is happening, foresee an era where the white man assumes the position of God and decides who lives and who doesn't!!

We constantly go grovelling before them for handouts forgetting that all of those "aids" come with a hefty price tag! How the hell do you expect one to keep bailing you out of trouble without dictating to a good extent how you live your life?? It explains why they keep shovelling their polices down our throats with very little resistance from our leaders!!

It is high time we awoke from our age long slumber and take our destiny as a race in our own hands. We all boast of independence from colonial rules but are there really "independent" African states

I disagree. The issue is that our government is never proactive but reactive. The ebola alert was issued around March and all they did in all those time was try to secure the borders and even that, they couldn't do. They honestly should have seen it coming and started aggressive measures against combating it. The U.S had isolation units already in place for even the most deadly of diseases buh we got ours after the outbreak. Enough said

Ebola is a threat to the ENTIRE human race, Omenka, so now is NOT the time to spout black-power rhetoric about which racial classification of human beings ought to assume primary responsibility for solving the Ebola riddle, in your learned opinion. Hell, for all we know the Southern California company that holds patent on the Ebola cure could turn out to be a subsidiary of a business empire run by African Americans. Would black ownership still make such a company a "White Man's traitor" against Africa, in your eyes ?

Arguably there could already exist traditional African herbal remedies that slow down or arrest the progress of an Ebola viral infection, BUT, until those leaves and roots can be PROVEN to cure the hitherto 90% fatal disease, as the US-made drug ZMap has already done in saving the lives of both American medical volunteers flown in from Liberia for "experimental" treatment using ZMap, then it is simply TOO LATE in the race against this spreading pandemic for any narrowing of available options down to "looking inwards" in search of your demanded "African" solution to this GLOBAL threat.
