can you imagine Nigerian police demanding #100 as rogger (bribe) for 4 liters of condensate fuel that cost #120 or risk losing it?. Okiro please call your emissaries to order.
Re: Must The Nigerian Police Be Bribed For Everything? by tripod(m): 10:52am On Oct 23, 2008
Dat one ne small tin. come to phc and see what okiro's boys are doing. its like a state of emergency has ben declared in phc. u cannot drive on the road without being chased out by gun/trigger happy okiros. the worst part of it is that they have become so predictable that real criminal no how to avoid them where necessary. the only place u find okiro is in front of their stations.
while the other criminal (special) squards scattered around the town only look out for vehicles with tinted windshield without an okiro in front or a special number plate.

U could cut through the level of decadence in the okiro family.

the bottom line is, there is a total breakdown of law and order in phc. politicians not helping (aiding and abetting) the overzealous security operatives.

umhhhhh, the 9ja armed forces stinkssssssssssssssssss.

We can say Mike Okiro's administration is the worst in the history of Nigerian police force. Even the administration of Tafa Balogun, Musiliu Smith and others are not as bad as the present one where police officers have no other job on the roads than to tax the citizens and Okiro pretends as if he is not aware of all these. It is a pity

I'm sure we know that there are still good policemen out there.
i know itz in the character of most of them, but some are not that bad.
It wouldn't be wise to condemn the entire Police force, I know how the police have helped me in the past. I was actually asking myself if I was still in Nigeria.

while the police lacking discipline ,killing innocent nigerians e.t.c is abhorrent, dont be in a haste to blame them untill you have seen their standard of living and what they have to go through to survive, remember policemen/women are nigerians as well, and they dont get food stuffs cheaper than the average nigerian because of their uniform some even live worse than an average nigerian,in a situation where a policeman is living in an uncompleted building, living in a cell and having his/her bath very early in the morning in the open police station compound u ll realise its not their fult but the government/system

that is what we should be talking bout, Not make them no collect at all,
Re: Must The Nigerian Police Be Bribed For Everything? by MrCrackles(m): 12:06pm On Oct 23, 2008
Even if the country was overflowing milk, money and honey, Nigerian Policemen would still demand bribe!
They have been cursed from out of this world!!

-If not, someone's life wont be taken because of 20Naira

-If not people wont be harrassed because of 5naira

-If not Nigerian policemen would be busy saving lives and properties

-If not Nigerian policement would be busy enforcing law and order
Re: Must The Nigerian Police Be Bribed For Everything? by kevchina: 12:17pm On Oct 23, 2008
The blame is suppose to be to all those leader thieves ruling nigeria squandering all the money among themselves and their families alone. How can u pay a police man little money and expect him to protect the nation,is imposible,i always say that every nigerian police deserves atleast 100,000 naira monthly because our nation have that money,if government takes good care of them the way westerners takes care of their police,i think we will not be experiencing all this shit of 20 naira bribe, they will be seriously focus on their duty
Re: Must The Nigerian Police Be Bribed For Everything? by lobinoxebe(m): 12:22pm On Oct 23, 2008

But your enemy has been looking for job and he is infact facing starvation grin. They know what the stakes are.Little wonder many policemen (for those with the means) are abandoning their jobs to go hussle abroad.I mean any abroad.

Good point.

Coupled with the fact that we, the masses directly encourage them in their shameless acts by offering egunje, instead sacrificing our time to see the case through.
Re: Must The Nigerian Police Be Bribed For Everything? by kokoye(m): 1:40pm On Oct 23, 2008
I pity Police officers in Nigeria - it's like being between the devil and the dead sea. If you college egunje, people will rain curses on you and that money will not have any positive effect. If you dont collect egunje, you risk losing ur job and be ridiculed because the ur oga is expecting a return.

I read in the papers about a police office on victoria island who faced a gang of robbers all by himself (his colleagues ran when the robbers came), this officer was tortured deliberately kept alive by the robbers so he could suffer. He was left in a gutter for several hours b4 some good samaritans came to his aid. The govt did not help him - he was left at the hospital all by himslef, no insurance, nothing. Even his boss and colleagues did not bother to go check on him. And theyre not paying his hospital fees and salary either. All for doing his job!

The guy regretted his actions - his kids are now out of schools because fees could not be paid, the landlord is threatening him with ejection while on the sick bed.

So tell me, would you blame him if he runs for his life when next he sees a gang of robbers , or if he collects bribes instead??

Unfortunately, its all man for himslef in my dear country called Nigeria.

Why do you single out the Nigerian Police?
UNILAG is expecting a bribe from me just to send my transcript to the HR dept of my employers
Re: Must The Nigerian Police Be Bribed For Everything? by anurioma: 2:15pm On Oct 23, 2008
this is why i think the present motto of the police 'to serve and protect with integrity' is prophetic hence lets all pray for them outside that no hope for them.

True.

Those ones are even worse because they will not come out point blank to ask for a bribe. they'll just stall until you offer it to them. grin
Re: Must The Nigerian Police Be Bribed For Everything? by nomanicole(f): 2:20pm On Oct 23, 2008

That guys knows little or nothing about what he ought to be doing.

My guy. At least they have told you what they want na. Wait till it takes 6 months before they decide to send it. Add another 3 months for it to get delivered.
Unilag sha, Current students are told that if they request for transcripts that they should consider themselves out of the university.

Anyway, with regards to the Police, all i can do is laugh. They once told me to use an ATM when i told them i didn't have cash on me!!
Re: Must The Nigerian Police Be Bribed For Everything? by OBVIOUS(m): 2:36pm On Oct 23, 2008
I don't blame them. They have families to feed.

From top to bottom, almost every living/moving thing in Nigeria is corrupt: schools, unis, churches, and even new born babies.
Re: Must The Nigerian Police Be Bribed For Everything? by Hugger: 2:38pm On Oct 23, 2008
Unilag is stylishly refusing to send my transcript. They have been telling me for the last week now that the thing is with the typist and she will send it when she finishes. I was even given a hint about how the typist might not be motivated to do the job quickly - which I took to mean that I should give her some motivation.
Meanwhile I have already deposited money in their account for the transcript to be sent by courier to my employer.

if Unilag does that, why wont the police do same?
Re: Must The Nigerian Police Be Bribed For Everything? by nornoms: 7:22pm On Oct 23, 2008
shocked i am so shocked that there are people there that are still so corrupt and they don't think for other people, how can they be so corrupt that they think they rule everything.
those police don't know the role of being a police they are there to serve not to be served.
tax and all the money people pay there is the one that pays them
its such a shame that in these African countries as beautiful as they are they are full of corruption.i don't really know how people survive that kind of evilness.
as young as i am,i am so scared to visit your country because of the things i hear and like come on i am an African i as suppose to be free to visit any other neighbor country
hope that one day they may all vanish all those that bribe and the ones that accept to be bribed
it's a shame.
i don't think it is a good thing for them to accept a bribe.

Guy! Forget that transcript issue. You'll need to be physically present for the transcript to be issued and sent. You'll even have to escort the transcript to DHL office oh!

There's a friend I helped get his; first time, his name was misspelt. embarassed
Second time, it was his DOB quoted incorrectly. cry
Third time, sent to the wrong school! angry

I WILL DEFINITELY REVISIT THIS POST WHEN I HAVE MUCH TIME. ITS A SHAME FOR THE POLICE BECAUSE YOU SEE THEM GO INTO ALL SORTS OF THINGS JUST FOR MONEY. IN PHC THE POLICE ARREST PEOPLE FROM 8PM FOR WANDERING JUST BECAUSE "SOMETHING GO DROP AT THE END".
THEY STOP EVERY TAXI IN FRONT OF THEIR STATIONS FROM 7PM FOR THE SAME REASON. tHE ONLY REASON WHY THEY GO AFTER OKADA AFTER 6PM IS FOR THE SAME REASON.
HOWEVER SOME PEOPLE GIVE GLADLY, IF YOU HAVE COS LATE AT NIGHT, IF YOU DRIVE AN EXPENSIVE CAR ON A LONELY ROAD YOU WILL BE HAPPY TO SEE POLICE INSTEAD OF MILITANTS.
BUT ITS JUST TOO MUCH. I THINK THE FORCE NEEDS TO BE REFORMED.
BETTER ORIENTATION, BENEFITS, AND WELFARE MAY HELP REDUCE THE TREND.

I NO SURE SHA!

Well, u can attribute that to corruption. When u consider the pathetic condition of the police, u would want to empathize with them. Nigeria is corrupt , the police too would also follow patern
One of my prayers is Psalm 91.For God to deliver from the snare of the fowler and the noisome pestilence(sic). I have never and i pray never to enter police trouble. and so far, God has been faithful to me. If you think the police is so bad, then think about the VIO, LASTMA, FRSC and other traffic officers. They could be worse than the police on a very bad day when driving.

Abeg, is the police the only people suffering in Nigeria to cause them to harrass people any how. . . asking bribe from the same people the economy is strangling as well? Is that not greed at its highest?
