The Gospel IS THE Power Of God - Teaching On Romans 1:16 by Goshen360(m): 3:07pm On Aug 30, 2014
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.
Romans 1:16

Many Christians today are still fasting to receive power from High from God. They go to mountains with the aim of receiving power from God. They do all kinds of things in anticipation for power for ministry or from God for one purpose or another. Alas, God uses the foolishness of the word to counter the wise. You're looking for power, but God says here's the power - the gospel. In other words, you get hold of the gospel, you already have the power of God you're looking for. Also, aside of the gospel, a Christian is powerless. Powerless Christians are Christians without the gospel. The gospel IS THE power that God operates with; without the gospel, God will not and cannot do anything for anyone. Look and read the verse again, "...the gospel, because IT IS THE POWER OF GOD. God's way are not man's way. Are you seeking power from or of God, the gospel IS THE very and exact power of\from God you are looking for; get hold of the gospel and you have the power.

I'll like to go deeper a little bit into that text...

What then is the gospel?

First, we must understand there's only one and only gospel, as per every dispensation of God. We, the church confuse so many things about the one gospel. We preach every gospel God had preached through His prophets of old and bring it up to the contradiction of the gospel of the new. In every dispensation, the gospel had always been one. Under the law, the gospel was preached to them and what was it? Bring me a sacrifice\offering....God said and I, God will bless you through\by that sacrifice\offering. Today, people are still preaching that old gospel not aligning to the truth that, that was a shadow of Christ's sacrifice and offering with which God will bless you. Why? Because the law is shadow of good things which is to come and has come, a shadow of Christ. But was is a gospel then? Yes. Is it a gospel now? No! - Romans 1:2.

The gospel is about His Son, Christ. Romans 1:9. What is it about His son that carries power of God for salvation to everyone who believes?

New International Version
Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures...
1 Corinthians 15:1-4

We understand from scriptures above that, the gospel is about Christ and what he had done for us through his death, burial and resurrection being preached as the gospel of Grace of God. This is what is often known as the finished works of Christ so that you can rest....when you believe in him and what he had done for you. To the Corinthians, he said, "...by this gospel, YOU ARE SAVED...". Glory to God, hallelujah. To the Romans, he said, this gospel IS THE power of God UNTO SALVATION...to everyone who believes. (notice, he didn't say "these" gospel as in plural or many but he said, "this"...meaning just singular, one)

I am not ashamed of the gospel

Preaching the real and true gospel carries as "sense" of shame. This is because, the true gospel, you are preaching "too good to be true message" that some people will ask questions like, can this be true? Also, it carries a sense of foolishness and some people will say, it doesn't make sense. cheesy Ladies and Gentlemen, this is by foolishness of God which is wiser than the wisdom of this world. How do we explain non-imputation of sin and imputation of righteousness to everyone who believes and comes to Christ if it is not other than a shameful\foolish thing to say - 1 Corinthians 1:21.

...it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes...

The word power here is the same word, dynamis. One of the meanings is, "inherent power, power residing in a thing by virtue of its nature, or which a person or thing exerts and puts forth". So what he's saying here is, the gospel by its nature, carries the inherent power of God unto salvation. Salvation here means completeness....in Christ to everyone who believes.

The word salvation here is the word sōtēria and it means: deliverance, preservation, safety, salvation. deliverance from the molestation of enemies. In an ethical sense, that which concludes to the soul's safety or salvation, of Messianic salvation. Salvation as the present possession of all true Christians. Future salvation, the sum of benefits and blessings which the Christians, redeemed from all earthly ills, will enjoy after the visible return of Christ from heaven in the consummated and eternal kingdom of God.

Here we understand, in this gospel is the very power of God with which you're delivered from every molestation of the enemies. The very power of God resides in you when you get hold of the true gospel of Christ. You're not attending deliverance sessions, you're delivered and and preserved in Christ. Salvation does not only mean your soul is saved. You're also preserved in Christ and complete.

...to the Jew first and also to the Greek.

God began to deal with the Jews first and first began to preach the gospel to them in shadows. Hence, to the Jews first. It doesn't mean the Jews are more important to God than the Greek or the Gentiles. There is no respect of persons with God. He's speaking "to the Jews first"...in respect to the gospel of God in that it was first preached to the Jews First and then to the Gentiles\Greek. Hebrews 4:2. This text does not place the Jews more important than the Gentiles in the eyes of God.

Grace and truth be multiplied unto you in Christ!!!

Beautiful, except that, there is nothing like a 'powerless' chrlstian. A churchgower/members of the mixed multitude can be powerless, but a christian can NEVER be powerless. A blessed day to u sir!
