THE Independent National Electoral Commission on Sunday said the Saturday’s Niger-East senatorial bye-election was inconclusive due to irregularities in some polling units. The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Niger State, Dr. Emmanuel Onucheyo, said this in Minna at the end of the collation of results. He said that fresh election would be held in some polling units in the Bosso, Chanchaga, Munya, Paikoro, Rafi and Shiroro Local Government Areas on September 6. Niger East senatorial district comprising nine local government areas, Bosso, Chanchaga, Gurara, Munya, Paikoro, Rafi, Shiroro, Suleja and Tafa. The REC said the elections in the affected areas were cancelled as a result of violence. Onucheyo noted that Peoples Democratic Party so far has the highest votes out the four parties that participated in the bye election. According current result released by INEC Shem Zagbayi Nuhu of PDP polled 89, 640 votes followed by David Umoru of All Progressive Congress with 84, 689 votes, All Progressives Grand Alliance had 2, 099 votes and the Social Democratic Party candidate has the lowest votes 460. The number of registered voters according INEC was 937, 443 while number of accredited voters, 199, 790; and number of valid votes cast, 176, 888.
