A Namibian Senator, Afeni Ndemuna, yesterday in Lagos hailed the Nigerian Constitution, describing it as one of the best in the world.

He said that his country’s legislative arm would recommend the constitution to the government and people of Namibia.

Ndemuna, who led a four-man team of Namibian senators on a courtesy call on Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State, said they were in the country on a study tour. The senator is the Chairman of the standing committee on constitutional and legal affairs of Namibia’s highest law-making body.

He said his country stood to benefit immensely from the Nigerian constitution, which had been put to practice in the last nine years.

“The delegation is also in Nigeria to purposely visit the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja and Lagos to see how best the constitution is being practiced.

We will, through our one-week stay in Nigeria, learn from the federal lawmakers and Lagos lawmakers about best constitutional practices,” he said.

Fashola, in his remarks, said that there was no viable alternative to democracy.

He identified team work among the three arms of government as the secret of the success of the state in democratic practice, over the years.

Yes, it's true that we have a lot of good laws. We just don't happen to implement most of them.

Check other countries constitution. And why one man can  write a nation consitution. It is not possible. A nation as to write his contitution. Only in Nigeria, will some one man be the brain behind the constitution.

The Namibian is correct. There is nothing wrong with most parts of the constitution. The problem lies with its implementation. Many of you mght be surprised to learn that even South Africa's constitution is modelled on Nigeria's own constitution.
