LadyH: Seriously, that movie under played the BEAUTY of the book itself. What a pity.
I couldn't have phrased it more felicitously. Your post succintly captured my opinion. i'd thought i was the only disgruntled audience of the flick. If i had watched it first, i roundly doubt it would have piqued my interest to pick up the novel.

i was once a sinner but i came pardon for my soul to receive this was freely given but i found that he always kept his words chorus there is a new name written down in glory and its mine o yes its mine and the white robed angels sing the story a sinner has come home

I so much love the song, especially because my grandmum sang it on her sick bed few minutes before she died. So everytime I sing that song to remember her.

I loved this hymn as a little boy in Deeper Life children choir. Always made me feel like crying. I am an atheist now but I still love nice hymns like this.
