Jonathan, Stop Telling INEC Where To Print Ballot Papers –APC by Skynett: 12:53pm On Sep 08, 2014
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has described the Presidential directive that all electoral materials must be printed by the Nigeria Security Printing and Minting Company (NSPMC) as a threat to the independence of INEC and the conduct of a free, fair and credible elections in the country.

In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said the directive is suspicious because it was followed by the dissolution of the management of the NSPMC, which may be a ploy by the President to inject PDP card-carrying members into the reconstituted management so that the company could become another rigging tool in the 2015 general elections.

“On the surface, there is nothing wrong in having the NSPMC print electoral materials, since this will translate to more jobs for Nigerians and save money. However, against the background of the PDP-led Federal Government’s abuse of national institutions like the military and the police, which are used as the enforcement arms of the PDP during elections, it will be dangerous to have the Federal Government take control of the printing of ballot papers and other electoral materials via the NSPMC.

“Secondly, where is the independence of INEC when the President can just direct it by fiat to do its bidding? INEC should be left to determine where to print its electoral materials to ensure the integrity of such materials…

“Thirdly, asking the CBN Governor, an appointee of the President, to now oversee the ‘reform’ of the NSPMC, and the Governor’s promptitude in visiting INEC over the presidential directive, raise more questions. While the CBN is a part owner of the NSPMC, it is not INEC’s supervisory ministry and should not tamper with its duties,” it said.

The APC said the bottom line is that INEC should be left alone to carry out its onerous duties without interference from any quarters whatsoever.

“There should be a limit to the desperation of President Jonathan and his party to win the 2015 elections at all costs. They have perfected the use of the security forces, especially the military, the police and the DSS, to harass and intimidate the opposition during elections. While the whole nation is still trying to get them to stop abusing the security forces, they should not draft another institution into the election rigging fray,” the party added.

oh APC, i give up on you .

printing the ballot papers outside the country is a waste of tax payers money but printing it locally is a strategy to rig the election , what is the way forward pls.

letting thugs steal ballot papers and cause trouble during and after election is a sign of ineptitude on the part of the presidency and security agencies but deploying them in large numbers during an election is a way of intimidating the opposition supporters. what is the way forward since all PDP supporters are fearless military men who dont fear their colleagues in uniform.

killing boko haram members is a ploy to weaken the north but letting them continue their evil deed is a sign of incapacity to protect lives and property, APC, are you guys from Nigeria or saudi Arabia grin grin

Am still supprised that this fellows are yet to see anything wrong with the new national id card or did i miss that report

APC has a point.

INEC needs to be as independent as possible, and the best way to achieve that is through the constitution.

It is undesirable to have the President giving executive orders to INEC, when the President is an interested party in elections.

That's not an argument for saying the ballots should not be printed in Nigeria. But it should not be the President ordering INEC to do so.

Oh my God! How more low can APC ever get.
Cutting cost is a major responsibility of govt.
CBN oversees Mint. The CBN governor is the chairman, CBN's DG Operations is a member of the board.

Caseless2: i just want to believe u did not read b4 posting this comment.

what did i skip, that he should not give NSPMC orders or that he has no right to sack the board of NSPMC.

this was how you lots made sanusi to rubbish his remaining integrity by telling him that the C in C has no right to sack him because he is the CBN governor.

you have started again. maybe you should also tell Jega that the man who appointed him has no right to order him to do things that will favour the nation in General.
