Imo state governor, Rochas Okorocha, has assured the electorate that his alleged anointed candidate for the forthcoming governorship poll in the state, “Ugwumba Uche Nwosu, is APC in spirit and AA in dressing.” He disclosed this on Saturday at the South-east presidential rally for women and youths held at Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri. “The leading party in this regard with strong support for Buhari is Action Alliance led by Ugwumba Uche Nwosu. “Let me inform all of you that Ugwumba Uche Nwosu is APC in spirit and AA in dressing. He is still one of you and only using the platform to correct an injustice done to Imo people. “APC leadership owns Imo people an apology. They treated Imo people poorly. There is no point bothering yourself; Buhari will win this election not because APC has supported us but because of our love for Buhari. “Let me inform those from Abuja, don’t be deceived by what they tell you, Ugwumba Uche Nwosu will win the governorship election in Imo state”, Okorocha said. In her remark at the event, the Wife of the President, Mrs. Aisha Buhari, urged the electorate to support President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election. Mrs. Buhari, who was represented by the wife of the Vice-President, Mrs. Dolapo Osinbajo, said, “APC is taking us to the next level. The government of President Buhari is working for men, women, youths and children. The government cares for all. Everybody should vote for APC. Nobody should be at home on the day of elections, but should go and vote.” http://mcebiscoo.com/2019/01/13/uche-nwosu-apc-spirit-aa-dressing-says-okorocha/

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) on Saturday held prayer sessions for the success of next month’s general elections. It also prayed for all Christians contesting for various posts, that the will of God be done concerning their ambition. Beyond the elections, the Christian body asked members to pray for God to bring an end to the killings in the country as well as to rescue those still in captivity of Boko Haram terrorists. Speaking with reporters after the prayers in Abuja, the CAN President, Rev. Samson Ayokunle, asked the youths to come out en masse to vote. He also urged the youths to shun politicians who may want to use them as thugs during the elections. In a statement last week, the group had declared January 10 a day of national prayers. http://mcebiscoo.com/2019/01/12/can-holds-national-prayers-ahead-general-elections/

The $2.5 billion Ibom Deep Seaport, a Public Private Partnership (PPP) project would come to reality on or before April 2019. The project would change the landscape of infrastructure in Nigeria, Ms Imeh Okon, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Infrastructure, said in Uyo on Friday. At the High Level Stakeholders Retreat on Public Private Partnership (PPP), she said: “It will have solutions to traffic congestion in Lagos port because those goods that normally go to Lagos will come here.’’ “I can assure you before April, the contract for Ibom Deep Seaport will be signed and the approved consortium will start immediately. She said that the country has spent N2.7 trillion on infrastructure development in the last three years. She said that N100 billion had been injected into rail projects. “What we have done as a government is to go back to the 25-year Master Plan on the rail sector. All what you are seeing right now is in terms of rail infrastructure as a result of the Master plan that was on ground.” She said that the essence of the retreat was to bring stakeholders together to deliberate and develop on policies that would be suitable for the country. She said that the Federal Government was committed to the development of infrastructure in the country, adding that infrastructural development would enhance growth. The Presidential Aide, however, said that revenue generation was a major challenge since the country depended on oil for revenue and the price of oil was not stable in the international market. “The challenge we have seen is revenue; because we are largely dependent on oil to generate revenue and the price of oil has affected government spending. “So, we are going to partner with the private sector to develop most of our priority infrastructure projects.” Mr Chidi Izuwah, the Acting Director-General, Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC), noted that infrastructure deficit was the major challenge to the nation’s development. According to him, increase in infrastructure will boost prosperity, growth and peace in the country. “The President is committed to developing infrastructure, without infrastructure, we cannot have inclusive growth and development. “The stakeholders conference is to re-define our strategies and create investment to develop infrastructure across all parts of Nigeria,” Izuwah said. In his opening remarks, Mr Gabriel Aduda, the Permanent Secretary, Political and Economic Affairs, Office of the Secretary to the Federal Government, said that the retreat was organised to discuss infrastructure improvement delivery framework in Nigeria. Aduda added that the retreat was also put together to examine the legal and operational framework for infrastructure development in the country. We Will Not Boycott Elections, Says MASSOB The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, yesterday said it was imperative that President Muhammadu Buhari is re-elected, with Dr. Uche Ogah as the state governor, along with other candidates of the party, to ensure that both the Southeast and Abia State are fully brought into the mainstream of the government. This just as the leadership of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has advised its members to participate in the forthcoming general elections.Rising from its national executive council meeting held in Awgu, Enugu State, yesterday, MASSOB, in a statement signed by its National Director of Information, Samuel Edeson, however, noted that other “pro-Biafra groups that plan to boycott the elections are entitled to stay at home during elections days.” It stated that in recognition of the freedom of political participation and exercises, “we declare that this year general elections in Nigeria will not be stopped or boycotted in Biafra land. “Our people that still believe in Nigeria projects are free to participate in the electoral processes of Nigeria, including this year, as we have allowed INEC to conduct elections in Biafra land.” Speaking at the party’s rally the township stadium in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, yesterday, Oshiomhole said to the crowd of party supporters, who throng the venue: “Do not repeat your 2015 mistake of voting for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that has deceived you for 16 years.“You must stop lamenting the failure of the present PDP led government in the state and vote in Ogah. The APC federal government has been removing all obstacles against sustainable power supply in the country.” In his acceptance speech, Ogah commended the APC for adopting direct primaries that produced the right candidates capable of wining the elections, assuring the people of the state that if elected, he would within two years of assumption of office redress what the PDP government did in 16 years. Those that received the party flag for senate were ex-governor Orji Uzor Kalu for Abia North; ex-senator Nkechi Nwaogu for Central; Chief Marc Wabara for South, as well as serving members of the House of Representatives, Nkeiru Onyejiocha and Martins Apugo, among others for House and the 24 for the state House of Assembly. MASSOB, however, reaffirmed its commitment to the actualisation of Biafra through the principals of non-violence and international diplomacy, in collaboration and brotherhood with other progressive pro-Biafra groups. “MASSOB, having realised that Biafrans cannot forcefully impose our desirable interest on the people of Nigeria and having understood the principals of non-violence, unanimously agreed and resolved that Nigeria state will independently and internally observe and conduct their political exercises, including general elections. “Nigeria elections will come and go, irrespective of whoever that wins in both national and state elections. We must continue with Biafra projects of actualisation irrespective of both internal and external distractions.” http://mcebiscoo.com/2019/01/12/breaking-apc-counsels-igbo-not-repeat-2015-mistake/

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in next month’s General Election, Atiku Abubakar, has promised to restore the over 10 million jobs lost under the present administration of Muhammadu Buhari. Speaking in Minna on Wednesday at the PDP Presidential Campaign Rally in Minna, Niger State capital, the former Vice President said the APC-led Federal Government has failed in its three cardinal campaign promises of fixing the economy, fighting insecurity and corruption. According to him, there is a nexus between unemployment and insecurity, assuring that if elected, he would not only provide jobs for the teeming unemployed youths but also provide the enabling environment for businesses to thrive. He said: “Let me remind those of you who perhaps were born in 1999 when PDP started governing Niger State. The roads infrastructure that you have in Niger State were constructed by the PDP government. The schools that you attended were built by PDP government. The hospitals that you are attending were built by PDP government. “And then in 2015, they came to tell us that PDP did not do anything. We should change. And we changed. And they promised to fight corruption, to improve our economy and also to secure our country. Have they achieved anyone of these three? When they came in, there was insecurity only in North East. Today, there is insecurity in North West and North Central. And we have lost more lives at any other time in the history of this country in peaceful times. They have failed as far as security is concerned. “When it comes to the issue of economy, we have lost more jobs, over 10 million jobs, to the extent that Nigeria has been declared the headquarters of poverty in the world. This is a record. Have they fulfilled that promise? Now I want to promise you that if you vote PDP, we will restore the jobs that had been lost. You either get a job or get a business to do. “So, this is a promise and a commitment I am making on behalf of PDP and if you vote for PDP. I want to commit to you that if you vote for PDP, the insecurity which they have not been able to control, we shall control it. They have been unable to control insecurity because they have been unable to provide jobs and businesses for the people. So by the time we provide jobs and businesses for our young men and women, you will hear less crime and less insecurity. “So, I want to promise you on behalf of our great party to sack the APC government and let us send them packing. Like I use to say, Buhari must go!!! APC must go!!!” On his part, Director General of the campaign council and Senate President, Bukola Saraki, lamented the growing level of poverty and urged supporters not to ignore that factor during voting. Dignitaries at the event include: immediate past governor of Niger State, Babangida Aliyu; his counterpart from Kano State and current senator representing Kano Central, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso; former Minister of Special Duties, Tanimu Taraki, PDP governorship candidate in the forthcoming governorship election in the state, Umar Mohammed Nasko; Senate Minority Whip, Phillip Aduda among others. http://mcebiscoo.com/2019/01/10/atiku-promises-restore-10-million-jobs-lost-buhari-must-read/

The 232-kilometre Maiduguri-Damaturu-Potiskum road which was closed earlier today, over what residents said was due to a military operation in the area, has now been re-opened. The spokesperson of the 7 division, Col. Ado Isa confirmed this to Channels Television. A member of the Joint Task Force (JTF) in Maiduguri had told our correspondent that military convoys were seen on the road, a major expressway leading to and out of the Borno state capital. Following the action, members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers in Maiduguri stopped loading passengers travelling out of the city. Motorists coming into the city were also restricted from using the road, where terrorists are said to have a dozen crossing points. Meanwhile, the spokesperson of the Operation Lafiya Dole, Col. Onyema Nwachukwu, explained in a statement that the Army is only carrying out a clearance operation and snap checks for the safety of motorists, saying the action was not a road closure. http://mcebiscoo.com/2019/01/09/maiduguri-damaturu-highway-reopens-closure-military-operation/

SK Usman, Maiduguri: In their determined efforts of wiping the remnants of Boko Haram terrorists, troops of Operation LAFIYA DOLE have embarked on aggressive clearance operations on suspected Boko Haram terrorist hideouts and crossing points with tremendous results. It is in this line that they neutralised quite a number of them and recovered various calibre of arms and ammunition in such areas around Goniri in Yobe State, Damasak, Kross Kauwa and Monguno, among other locations in Borno State. Specifically, the 120 Battalion and the newly formed Nigerian Army Special Forces Command have neutralised over 100 Boko Haram terrorists in various encounters. The Nigerian Air Force Air Task Force component of Operation LAFIYA DOLE has been giving close air support to ground troops and also facilitating the hot pursuit of fleeing infiltrating terrorists in the ongoing operations. Significantly, the Air Task Force have destroyed several Boko Haram terrorists gun trucks and facilities. The gallant troops have also been repelling attempted efforts by the terrorists to infiltrate their locations. Buoyed by the Chief of Army Staff’s presence and motivation, the troops in the frontline are in renewed positive fighting spirit across the theatre to stop incursions and annihilate the terrorists. The battle has now further shifted to the fringes of Lake Chad and other suspected Boko Haram terrorist enclave along the borders. http://mcebiscoo.com/2019/01/08/end-road-deadly-blow-boko-haram/

The Oba of Benin, Ewuare II, has called on politicians to play the game by its rules and avoid do-or-die politics, saying God and the ancestors are seriously against those who will acquire political power through blood shedding. He gave the charge during a meeting with the chairmen and members of the various political parties and the Edo State Council of Traditional Rulers and chiefs in Benin City. The monarch said power belongs and comes from God and He decides who to bequeath it to, stressing that, that should be the reason politicians must learn to put their trust in Him and see politics as a game where there must be a winner and a loser. “It must be realised at this point that no one has powers of his own. Besides, it is God Almighty, the great geometrician of the universe that gives power to anyone, be it political power or spiritual power. “So, it will be against God’s wish if anyone tries to achieve political powers through spilling of human blood or killing innocent citizens. “The Edo State Council of Traditional Rulers and Chiefs condemned such act in its entirety,” the Oba said. He noted that while it is customary that there must be a winner and a loser in an election, the winner must learn to be magnanimous in victory while the loser must be gallant enough to accept defeat in order to be able to strategise his way to victory in the subsequent election. The Oba further advised politicians to stop stockpiling arms and recruiting youths as political thugs with the sole aim of distorting the peace and tranquillity currently being enjoyed in the country. “We understand that some politicians are procuring weapons and are already recruiting gullible youths as thugs to be used before and during elections. “It is our prayer that God and our ancestors will help avert violence and mayhem from our land before, during and after the elections,” he prayed. The Oba, therefore, advised the youths to be weary of politicians who might come to recruit them as thugs for whatever amount just as he asked them to support any candidate of their choice through free, fair and credible elections and must be ready to demand good governance, transparency and accountability from their elected leaders. http://mcebiscoo.com/2019/01/08/2019-oba-benin-invokes-god-ancestors-politicians-eager-shed-blood/

There will be a nationwide protest on Tuesday by Nigerian workers to press for a higher minimum wage, the Nigeria Labour Congress said today. However, the union’s general secretary, Dr. Peter Ozo-Eson clarified that the action is not a strike. The umbrella labour union, along with the Trade Union Congress, wants minimum wage jacked from N18,000 to N30,000. “It has come to our attention that some sections of the news media have largely misrepresented our action plan in reaction to the delay in transmitting the recommendations of the Tripartite Committee on a new national minimum wage to the National Assembly by President Muhammadu Buhari. “It should be recalled that the National Executive Council of the NLC met on December 17 last year and directed that we hold nationwide mobilisation of workers and our allies if, by December 31, 2018, the bill on the national minimum wage has yet to be sent to the National Assembly to be passed as an Act of Parliament. “We immediately announced then that on Tuesday, January 8, 2019, there will be a nationwide mass mobilisation and protests simultaneously across all states in Nigeria. This does not translate to a strike.” (NAN) http://mcebiscoo.com/2019/01/07/minimum-wage-nationwide-protest-begins-tuesday-nlc/

President Donald Trump stood firm Sunday on his demand for billions of dollars to fund a border wall with Mexico, claiming “tremendous” support inside his camp on the contentious issue which has forced a government shutdown now entering its third week. “We have to build the wall,” Trump told reporters as he left the White House for the Camp David presidential retreat. “It’s about safety, it’s about security for our country. “We have no choice,” he said, warning once more that he may invoke emergency powers to get a wall built without congressional approval. “I may declare a national emergency, dependent on what’s going to happen over the next few days.” An impasse with lawmakers over funding for the border wall has partially shut down the federal government since December 22. Trump said Friday that the standoff could last “months or even years.” The shutdown has left some 800,000 federal workers sent home or working without pay. Large numbers of federal contractors are also losing pay. Talks aimed at ending the shutdown were to resume early Sunday afternoon in Vice President Mike Pence’s office, a day after a meeting involving him and representatives of Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi, the top two Democrats in Congress, made little headway. Trump indicated however he was not expecting a weekend breakthrough, saying there would be “very serious talks come Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday.” – Accusation of ‘stalling’ – Trump repeated his claim that many furloughed federal workers “agree 100 percent” with his demands, while asserting he also had “tremendous support within the Republican Party.” But Democrats, who now control the House of Representatives, seem in no mood to make concessions on a border wall Pelosi has described as an “immorality.” Pelosi said Sunday that if the president “doesn’t care whether people’s needs are met, or that public employees are paid or that we can have a legitimate discussion, then we have a problem.” Reflecting the depth of the divide, she added on CBS’s “Sunday Morning” that Trump sometimes gave the impression that “he would like to not only close government, build a wall, but also abolish Congress, so the only voice that mattered was his own.” Trump’s acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney told CNN on Sunday that Democratic negotiators seemed to have come to the talks Saturday “to stall.” Both Democrats and Republicans have attempted to pin the blame for the shutdown — a disruptive political ritual almost unique to the American system — on the other side. “This shutdown could end tomorrow and it could also go on for a long time,” Trump said. “It really depends on the Democrats.” – Trump ‘doesn’t care’ – Building a wall along the 2,000-mile (3,200-kilometer) US-Mexico border was a central plank in the 2016 election campaign of Trump, who has sought to equate immigrants with crime, drugs and gangs. Mulvaney said he had concluded that Democrats “think they are winning this battle politically and they’re vehement because they think the president is paying a price politically. That’s unfortunate.” But a leading Democrat involved in the negotiations, Senator Dick Durbin, pushed back. “I can’t say that we’re close (to a solution),” he told CBS, “because the president’s made it clear he doesn’t care.” As the impact of the shutdown spreads — with reports that it may affect food subsidies for the poor and the tax refunds many people depend on each year — Trump insisted that Americans understood his stance. “I can relate and I’m sure that the people that are on the receiving end will make adjustments — they always do — and people understand.” The shutdown has left transportation security agents and FBI employees working without pay. The popular Smithsonian museums, just blocks from the White House, have been forced to close, while national parks have seen trash pile up and bathrooms go uncleaned. http://mcebiscoo.com/2019/01/07/trump-digs-wall-shutdown-enters-week-three/

The Director-General of President Muhammadu Buhari Election Campaign Council, Rotimi Amaechi, has dismissed an audio recording where he was alleged to have said that President Buhari did not read newspapers or listen to news on the economic situation in the country. He said that he was not aware of such audio which is now being played on several online platforms. When he was asked for his comments on the audio that has gone viral, Amaechi said: “Nothing. I am not aware of any audio recording.” Further told that the audio was gaining momentum on different online websites, the immediate-past governor of Rivers State and incumbent Minister of Transport asked: “Do I do website?” It would be recalled that an audio detailing Amaechi’s criticism of the Buhari administration went viral some days ago. In the audio, Amaechi was reported to have said: “This country can never change, I swear. The only way this country can change is in a situation where everybody is killed.” In the same audio, Amaechi was also quoted as saying: “This country is going nowhere. When Magnus (Abe) was Secretary to the Rivers State Government (SSG), I told him that this country is hopeless and helpless and he told me, ‘Oga, stop it’. This cannot be coming from a governor. “But two months (later) in Abuja, Magnus came to meet me and said, ‘I agree with you; this country is hopeless and helpless. All they do in Abuja is to share money. “I have already written to the governor of Katsina State and I don’t know why he has not replied to give us the land in Daura for a university in Daura. The next university would be in my village. There was a popular saying while we were growing up, that charity begins at home. Will my own (charity) begin abroad? “The president does not listen to anybody. He doesn’t care. You can write what you want to write. Does he read? I was flying with him in an aircraft and we saw a news report where a goat seller was complaining that he couldn’t sell his goats during Sallah because of he Buhari’s administration. And the president said what’s my business with goat sellers?” http://mcebiscoo.com/2019/01/07/amaechi-opens-leaked-anti-buhari-audio-recording/

Police in Phoenix, Arizona, United States are investigating how a woman in coma for more than 14 years gave birth at Hacienda Healthcare, a nursing facility. A local CBS News affiliate, Arizona’s Family, first reported the incident Thursday. According to their report, the victim, who remains unidentified, gave birth to a healthy baby boy on Dec. 29. A whistleblower, who remains anonymous, told the CBS News affiliate that none of the staff knew she was pregnant, thehill.com reported “None of the staff were aware that she was pregnant until she was pretty much giving birth,” she said in a TV segment that disguised her voice and hid her face. “From what I’ve been told she was moaning. And they didn’t know what was wrong with her.” In a statement, Hacienda HealthCare said it would also conduct an “internal review” to evaluate patient safety. “As an organization, Hacienda HealthCare stands fully committed to getting to the truth of what, for us, represents an unprecedented matter,” spokeswoman Nancy Salmon told Arizona’s Family. “We are already conducting a comprehensive internal review of our processes, protocols, and people to ensure that every single Hacienda resident is as safe and well cared for as possible. Anything less than that is unacceptable to our team, our company’s leaders and the communities we serve.” The victim has reportedly been a patient at Hacienda HealthCare facility in Phoenix for at least a decade after nearly drowning and falling into a coma. Male staff are no longer allowed in the rooms of female patients at the facility as the investigation is underway. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Friday, raised an alarm over suspected activities of fraudsters who disguise as officers of the commission to extort money from the unsuspecting members of the public. It was also disclosed that the illicit activities were being perpetrated by sending scam mails to individuals. EFCC spokesman, Tony Orilade in a statement, said the commission had uncovered a number of email addresses, telephone numbers and websites used by unscrupulous persons to perpetrate such fraudulent activities, and is acting on them. Orilade added that in some instances, the perpetrators send fraudulent emails, letters and make telephone calls to unsuspecting members of the public and, impersonate government officials and organisations. The commission, therefore, warned the public of these fraudulent activities saying, anyone who enters into any agreement with any such impostor does so at his peril. It also reiterated that none of its officers will demand for gratification to “kill” an investigation, and no operative will invite a suspect to any location apart from EFCC’s designated offices, which can be found on its website. EFCC advised members of the public not to send money to any fraudster demanding money in the name of the commission for whatever purpose, and to desist from engaging in any communications with them. http://mcebiscoo.com/2019/01/04/efcc-raises-alarm-scam-mails/

The Kogi State Government has dismissed as “routine fiction”, claims by the opposition People Democratic Party (PDP ) that the party was denied the use of the Confluence Stadium for its presidential campaigns slated for Monday 7th January, 2019. Reacting to the claim in Lokoja, on Thursday night, the Director General of Media and Strategy to the Governor, Kingsley Fanwo said the Government of Kogi State knows when to draw “partisan lines” and that the Stadium belongs to all Kogi people regardless of political affiliations. According to the Governor’s spokesperson, PDP’s claim was capable of portraying the State Government in bad light, urging the opposition party not to mislead the public. “The claim by the PDP spokesperson, Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan that the State Government denied the party of the use of the Confluence Stadium for its Presidential Campaign is false, misleading and a deliberate attempt at portraying the State Government in bad light. “The fact here is that the State Government had approved the use of the Stadium and directed the Secretary to the State Government to communicate same to the party. As I speak to you here, the DG of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council in the State, Rt. Hon. Clarence Olafemi is in possession of the approval letter. “Mr Ologbondiyan‘s allegation is an embarrassment to the Government and people of Kogi State. I know he is an honourable man and that he will apologize to the good people of his state for the false claims. To claim denial of the use should ordinarily mean that their was an official communication to the effect of the alleged denial. “It is important to clarify this to enlighten the public before they are misled again. We have a good relationship with Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan who was a part of the Inauguration Team of our Administration. I would have ordinarily expected him to get across to us to know the true situation before misrepresenting the facts of the matter to the general public. “Governor Yahaya Bello is an honourable man and a statesman who will never involve himself in dirty politics. A former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Timi Frank, on Thursday gave the General Abdulsalami Abubakar-led National Peace Committee, a 72-hour ultimatum to call President Muhammadu Buhari to order. Frank made the call over Buhari’s alleged “gross violation of the recently signed peace accord by presidential candidates towards the forthcoming 2019 general elections.” He said the failure to make Buhari to respect the peace accord within the stipulated period would force the “opposition political parties to pull out of the peace accord and subsequently direct their supporters to massively resist the ongoing aggression against them.” In a statement signed and sent to DAILY POST, Frank said the call became imperative due to the “ongoing campaign of terror against leaders of opposition political parties aimed at actualizing a wicked conspiracy already hatched between the agents of the Buhari administration, security forces and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to brazenly rig the 2019 general elections.” He stated that the alleged “ongoing crackdown against top members of the main opposition political party – the Peoples Democratic Party – grossly negates the spirit and letters of the accord – “as there can be no peace without justice, equity and fairness.” Frank described the “ongoing use of the police and anti-graft agencies to hound prominent members of the PDP as an act of aggression that cannot be further tolerated as the elections draw near.” He stated that the “intimidation and hounding of key opposition figures across the country and the attempts to deny opposition parties access to legitimate finances by anti-graft and security agencies show that the APC and Buhari have begun to violate the tenets of the peace accord few weeks after it was signed.” The former APC spokesperson insisted that “it is now clear that the President and his party are out to rig the 2019 polls, or in the alternative, refuse to respect the will of Nigerians which is to hand over the reins of power to the eventual winner of the poll, should he be defeated as he is sure to be.” He said that “top presidential aides are currently boasting that they already have results of elections that has not been conducted in their kitty with which they will declare the President and all APC’s candidates vying for various offices across the country winners irrespective of the actual results of the next polls.” He lamented that the Nigeria Police was leading Buhari’s onslaught against the opposition ahead of the polls while the entire security apparatus of the country has shamefully bought into the plot to upturn the will of the people and rob the opposition candidates of victory. Frank further added that the “illegal extension of the tenure of the current Service Chiefs and the planed elongation of the tenure of the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, speaks volume about the intention of the present administration to use the nation’s security forces to rig the February elections and illegally perpetuate itself in power.” He said that the “siege on Senator Dino Melaye’s house by the police, the unlawful detention of activist, Deji Adeyanju, and the harassment and intimidation of businessmen believed to be sympathetic to the cause of the opposition is a clear violation of the peace accord at this pre-election stage.” He noted that failure by the Abdulsalami’s peace committee and members of the international community to prevail on Buhari to allow for free, fair and credible elections in the country will lead to a catastrophic upheaval never witnessed in any of the African continent. He described the much trumpeted “integrity” of Buhari as phony because events have since shown him to have encouraged, condoned and perpetuated corrupt activities while deceiving gullible Nigerians that he is an anti-corruption czar. He wondered how a President that has corrupted the nation’s governance system and security forces – preparatory to use them to rig the forthcoming elections – continue to lay claim to integrity. “How can a President that has sanctioned the diversion of state funds to finance his election say he has integrity? How can a President that is using state-funded security forces to intimidate, harass, detain and incarcerate members of the opposition say he has integrity? How can a President who continuously disdains and disregards lawful judicial pronouncements lay claims to integrity? “How can a President who has ordered his men to monitor banks and block the source of funds for opposition political parties say he has integrity? “Let the Presidency be warned. Nigerians are ready to take their destiny in their hands should the government not conduct itself properly to free the country from his clueless and inept administration. “Any attempt to rig, truncate, or declare the next presidential election inconclusive – like the case of Osun State – or refuse to relinquish power after defeat would be tantamount to reversing the massive democratic gains the country has recorded since 1999. “However, Nigerians are well prepared to resist any such draconian actions with the last drop of their blood,” he said. http://mcebiscoo.com/2019/01/03/2019-call-buhari-order-72-hours-timi-frank-tells-abdulsalamis-panel/

Says FG, military doing their best Michael Olugbode in Maiduguri The Governor of Borno State, Alhaji Kashim Shettima, has admitted that the security situation in the troubled state is worsening but said he could not blame President Muhammadu Buhari for the situation because he now has unfettered access to the president unlike during the administration of former president, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, when he was treated as an enemy of the presidency. Speaking at an extraordinary security meeting held on Monday night at the Multipurpose Hall of Government House, Maiduguri, the governor urged the attendees not to engage in blame games over the perceived failure of the soldiers, which he said would be unfair given the enormous sacrifices they have made in the last seven years. He said despite the worsening situation, he would rather encourage rather than blame the military, saying the soldiers were doing their best within the circumstances they had found themselves. There has been a resurgence of Boko Haram attacks, especially on military bases in the state in the past few months, leading to heavy casualties on the side of the Nigerian Army. No fewer than 40 soldiers have been killed in sporadic attacks on bases in Metele and Baga. There are conflicting claims of the insurgents holding positions in some of the local governments of the state. But Shettima said despite these he was unwilling to apportion blames to Buhari and the military. He explained, “Some persons have asked why I have not criticised the Buhari government or the Nigerian military over situations in Borno. My response to them is that unlike in previous years when I was treated as an enemy of the presidency, I have from 2015 to date, gained unfettered access to the president. I see the Commander-in-Chief at the shortest request and I tell him my concerns, he listens to me with keen interest and in most cases, he takes measures. I have not had reason to be frustrated with the presidency unlike previous years. “Let me say that even under the previous administration, I regularly supported and defended the military. When I said in February 2014, that the military was not being well equipped, it was not a comment by design, it was a spontaneous reaction, which came out of frustration and it was in defense of the soldiers being killed in front lines. I knew the problems.” He said the most inhuman way to go is to gather and condemn those who are putting their lives on the line and giving their lives in efforts to find peace. According to him, “We are principally here as a family, as a people all affected by the situation in Borno State, to discuss suggestions that will hopefully contribute to combined ongoing efforts towards addressing the problem.” He underscored the urgency of the situation when he told his guests, “For seven years, we held our regular security council meetings. I from time to time consult with some of the participants here. However, I never for once convene an extraordinary meeting of this nature because, frankly speaking, I was avoiding a sort of dramatisation or being sensational about our challenges in Borno State. “Without being insensitive to the realities of our situation, I feel deeply pained whenever Borno is being discussed on the basis of helpless weakness. I prefer to assume a position of strength; a position of normalcy and a character of being incurably optimistic.” He said his greatest wish was and still is, not to bequeath Boko Haram challenges and IDP camps to his successor. “We wanted to, and still want to get Borno fully back to normal days,” he said, adding, “Sometimes, I unconsciously find myself boasting that Borno is safer than Lagos. I simply feel very bad to sound pessimistic about Borno. I so much believe in optimism.” But the influx of men, women and children into Maiduguri, as well as reports of many dying on the way, have triggered tension in the state with concerns among citizens calling for drastic action to be taken by the government. It was based on this that Shettima convened the Monday night security meeting that involved almost all sectors, including security agencies, the media and legal practitioners. The outcome of the meeting was not disclosed as officials of the government said its conclusions would only be made known to the president. http://mcebiscoo.com/2019/01/02/shettima-admits-worsening-security-situation-borno/

The Grand Imam of Shafaudeen in Islam Worldwide, in Oyo State, Prof. Sabit Olagoke, has predicted that President Muhammadu Buhari will emerge winner of the 2019 presidential despite the stiff competition from the main opposition. The cleric stated this in Ibadan, headquarters of Shafaudeen in Islam Worldwide Wakajaye, while releasing his 2019 prediction to the country after his confinement and fasting as well as prayer for the country. The Professor, who doubles as the President of Ajagun Esin Consultative Forum, AECF, said “Against all odds, winners would emerge. APC as a party would have some threat and surprises but election would tend to favour the incumbent president.” On the major opposition, he said “the PDP on the other hand, would create a scene of disappointment for its presidential candidate.” Olagoke declared that the 2019 election would come up after some structural adjustment for effective feasibility. He maintained that all stakeholders in the elections must ensure that the elections were free, fair and credible in order to avoid a stalemate. He warned that the wrath of God would descend on anybody or group of people plotting to cause violence and plunge the country into any upheaval. On security, Olagoke urged Nigerians to “pray against a situation of mass drift of people from a part of the country to the other. Let us work for peace and tighten up security” Generally, 2019 shall be characterised by the following events: “problematic challenges and reconstruction for repositioning, favourable year of economic revival and new face of education management, boost in security and favourable year for sports.” Stressing that good governance is a function of godly leadership, he called on the political class to imbibe the culture of tolerance, focus on the issue of welfare. http://mcebiscoo.com/2019/01/01/new-year-prophecy-islamic-cleric-olagoke-predicts-winner-2019-presidency/

Ahead of the 2019 general elections, the leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Caucus, in Abia state and former Abia representative at the Federal Revenue, Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), Senator Chris Adighije, has pleaded with the people of South-East zone to vote massively for the APC to enable the zone get fully involved in the scheme of things in Nigeria. Adighije regretted the voting pattern of the people of the zone in the 2015 presidential election, warning that such step if toed again, would doom the Igbo nation. The APC chieftain made the appeal while reacting to the statement credited to the Vice President Yemi Osibanjo where he called on the people of South West to vote massively for Buhari in the forthcoming presidential election so as to enable the region take over the nation’s mantle of leadership in 2023. He harped on the need for the people of the South-East to support the APC in the coming presidential election to enable the zone take its shot at the Aso Villa in 2023. Recall that Osibanjo had, while speaking in Ibadan, Oyo state last week, said a vote for Buhari may lead to the South-West producing president in 2023. Adighije reacted thus, “He (Osibanjo) is the vice President. He is also from South West zone. And I’m also preaching, asking on our people to vote massively for APC, so that we can have a chance to take over the mantle of leadership in 2023. “Is politics, but in actual sense, the south west has had the opportunity under Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, the South-South has had the opportunity under Goodluck Jonathan. Morally, south east ought to, but, is politics. “So, all I’m asking the south east zone is to wake up, live up to responsibility, vote massively for APC, so that nobody would have any reason to ask South West to vie for President, when they have already done so. “Definitely, if we (ndigbo) do our homework very well, I’m sure, South West must at the appropriate time, see reasons that the South East should be allowed to produce Nigerian President in 2023.” The APC chieftain however sued for peace as the 2019 general election approaches, urging the electorates to go for credible candidates in the upcoming election. http://mcebiscoo.com/2018/12/31/2019-presidency-apc-chieftain-adighije-warns-ndigbo-toeing-wrong-path/

The national chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Victor Oye, has stated that the party was prepared for the 2019 presidential election in the country. Oye said his party’s presidential candidate, General John Gbor (retd) is the most qualified among the candidates jostling for the nation’s presidency in the upcoming election, pointing out that the administrations of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have failed to provide democratic dividends to the Nigerian people. “We are ready, even if you call us today, we are very ready. On that day, our candidate (Gbor) is going to mesmerize the others because he is the most qualified.” The APGA chairman, who stated this in an chat with DAILY POST on Monday, maintained that the nation’s economy had been bastardized under the watch of the two political parties, adding that his party, APGA, was poised to enthrone the needed change in the country come 2019. Oye went on to clear the air on the controversy trailing the just-concluded governorship primaries in Abia state, reaffirming that Dr. Alex Otti, is the only candidate of APGA for the 2019 gubernatorial election in the state. “If you go to INEC, we have one governorship candidate, Dr. Alex Otti. Otti emerged as our governorship candidate through a primary election. “Nothing will affect the chances of APGA in Abia state, because, the people of the state are already routing for Otti, who is busy going ahead with campaigns and electioneering,” he said. http://mcebiscoo.com/2018/12/31/2019-presidency-apga-national-chairman-victor-oye-speaks-partys-readiness/

Speaking with newsmen during the presentation of his keynote address at a one-day seminar the penultimate week, Agboke said politicians were itching to buy some of the 914,529 PVCs that were yet to be collected. Advising the eligible voters to collect money from desperate politicians who want to buy votes, nevertheless, Alli urged them to cast their votes according to their conscience. The former Secretary to the Oyo State Government also described the security levies imposed on religious centres in the state as anti-people, and urged the Governor Abiola Ajimobi-led administration to look for Internally generated revenue elsewhere and stop multiple taxes collected from religious leaders who must have paid the compulsory tenement rates on their worship centres. “If you are looking for money, you should go elsewhere. There are some untapped revenues the government has not tapped; not in churches and mosques. We are after getting good governance in Oyo State and not about propaganda and lies of present administration. “Since we left government in 2007, we have not had government of the people again. Infrastructures have been dilapidated in the state. Agricultural policies are only available on paper and cannot be felt in the real sense especially in the lives of our people. Crime rate is higher now than ever before. Forget about the security propaganda being bandied about, go to police stations and check the records, you will observe it is higher these days than ever before.” On local government autonomy, he emphatically noted that governors who opposed local government autonomy were wicked. “If our local government is not autonomous, we will continue to have problems. Any governor who is against local government autonomy is wicked. I will support local government autonomy as a governor,” he said. His words: “The achievements of the ruling government today in Oyo is just cosmetic. Under the Zenith Labour government, pensioners won’t be afraid of retiring because we have model of paying them along with active workers. “We are going to give a human face to governance. I will take off where Senator Rashidi Ladoja stopped. We had community-driven economy when we were in government and we still have it intact for the good and better lives of our people”, he promised. http://mcebiscoo.com/2018/12/31/2019-name-politicians-want-buy-voters-cards-oyo-alli-tells-inec/

The grandson of Second Republic President Shehu Shagari, Bello Shagari, has revealed why the ex-President refused his presidential residence when he was sworn-in 1979. Bello, who is the President of Nigerian Youth Council disclosed that Shagari felt that the residence was too luxurious for him and his family. The late ex-President’s grandson made the disclosure in a chat with Vanguard on Saturday. He said: “When he was sworn-in as the President, he decided to take the Vice President’s residence instead of the one meant for him because he felt the residence meant for the President was too luxurious for him and his family.” Shagari, had passed on Friday at the age of 93 at the National Hospital, Abuja after a brief illness. The former president, who won his second term election was, however, toppled by a coup d’etat that brought in Buhari as Military Head of State. http://mcebiscoo.com/2018/12/30/shehu-shagari-rejected-presidential-residence-grandson-bello/

The leadership of Tiv community in neighbouring Benue State has appealed to the Taraba State Governor, Darius Dickson Ishaku, not to neglect the Tiv in the state but to carry them along. The Tor-Tiv , Prof. James Ayatse, who made the appeal yesterday at a security meeting between both states in Wukaril Local Council of Taraba, tasked the governor not to edge Tiv out of the state but should endeavour to give them the much-needed attention. The meeting, which was aimed at finding permanent solutions to the security challenges bedevilling the two states, brought together governors of both states, traditional rulers, security chiefs and top government officials. He said: “Before colonial rule, the Tiv and Jukun were living together peacefully in this place. Before independence, a good number of Tiv people were administered from Wukari under the traditional authority of the Akp-Uka. Also, a good number of Tiv people are indigenes of Taraba.” The Tor-Tiv said his people in Taraba would continue to work for the growth of the state. He urged Ishaku to create a chiefdom for Tiv people of Taraba State. The paramount ruler, who was represented by the chief of Kwande Local Council of Benue, Ambrose Iortyer, said the Tiv Traditional Council in Benue had created districts for even the Hausa in Agnolotti, the Jukun in Abinse as well as other small tribes, whom he said now sit in the Tiv Traditional Council to deliberate on issues. Also, the Akp-Uka of Wukari, Sharau Agyu Masa-Ibi, who is also the Chairman, Taraba Traditional Council of Chiefs, pledged the Council would carry everybody along, irrespective of tribes, political parties etc. Both governors reiterated their determination to continue to ensure peace and stability among the people of the two states. http://mcebiscoo.com/2018/12/30/ortom-tor-tiv-urge-ishaku-carry-tiv-people-taraba-along/

The gubernatorial candidate of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) in Oyo State, Barrister Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli, has enjoined Governor Abiola Ajimobi of the state to source for money elsewhere instead of imposing security levies on religious centres such as churches and mosques. Alli, who alleged that achievements of the present government under the leadership of Ajimobi are mere cosmetics and only on papers, lamented that Oyo State which used to be pace setter is now copying other states in the areas of education, health, agriculture among others. The former Secretary to the Oyo State government while addressing journalists on Friday in Ibadan, the state capital, also frown at some of the policies of the state government which he described as “anti-people polices”. DAILY POST recalls that Ajimobi had last month announced a yearly security levies on industries, businesses and churches and mosques in a bid to raise money to assist security agencies in order to ensure a crime-free state. But Alli, while describing the move as another way to increase the level of hardship in the state, urged the governor to look for money in other areas instead of imposing levies on religious centres in the state. He explained that there are many untapped areas in the areas of businesses, industries, agriculture and other areas the government should base its revenue on and not religious centres whose motive is not for profit making. He queried the rationale behind the levies, lamenting that if people pay taxes on business, personal income tax and be subjected to pay levies in churches and mosques, it will be additional burden on them. Alli said, “If you’re looking for money you should go elsewhere. There are some untapped revenues the government has not tapped. Churches and mosques should not be taxed. What do they have in churches and mosques that you are taxing them. That is not the place to make money. Go elsewhere. “There are a lot of untapped areas. So, if you are looking for money, you don’t go there. Ajimobi’s achievements is just cosmetic. What we are after is good governance in the state. Pensioners won’t be afraid of retiring. “We, are after getting good governance in Oyo, government is not about propaganda. Since we left government in 2017, no government again. Infrastructure has been dilapidated. Agricultural policy is on the paper. We don’t see it in the life of the people. “Crime rate is higher now. The achievement of government is just cosmetic. What we are after is good governance in the state. Pensioners won’t be afraid of retiring. “The state is now 26, 30th position the state which used to be first for many years. For many years Oyo is yet to access its counterpart fund. The money is there. It is now 25% so that the state will be able to access it. We’re going to give a human face to governance. I will take off where Ladoja stopped. “We had community-driving economy when we were in government. It isn’t about having empty silos in the state. In other climes farmers are rich but here the reverse is the case. We are going to create a prosperous Oyo state. We are pacesetter but now we copy the others most unfortunate is the we didn’t copy right. “Some local government don’t have general hospitals. It show you that there is nothing like modernity. We have been backward, when Akala constructed road with certain amount, people were complaining but now they constructing a kilometer road with 1 billion naira, is that modernity. Look at the Mokola-Ojoo road constructed over ten years ago and the one constructed recently in Eleyele-Dugbe, can you compare the two? That is why I said that we are only copying in Oyo state.” http://mcebiscoo.com/2018/12/29/zlp-guber-candidate-alli-slams-gov-ajimobi-security-levies-churches-mosques-oyo/

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar on Friday said President Muhammadu Buhari should have been executed if Nigeria’s system was working. Atiku said Buhari should have been killed for overthrowing a democratically elected government in 1983. The Waziri of Adamawa, who spoke through his Media Aide, Paul Ibe, was reacting to a remark from Buhari’s campaign spokesperson, Festus Keyamo. Keyamo had claimed that the former Vice President should have been jailed for corruption if the country’s system was working. In a statement he issued, Keyamo claimed that Atiku was on the verge of committing suicide. Reacting to Keyamo’s comment, Ibe, who took to his Twitter handle wrote: “Festus Keyamo should be careful what he brings on himself and APC campaign. “If Nigeria had a working system, Muhammadu Buhari should have been executed for overthrowing a democratically elected government in 1983.” Shagari, who won his second term election was, however, overthrown by a coup d’etat that brought in Buhari as Military Head of State. http://mcebiscoo.com/2018/12/29/shehu-shagari-buhari-killed-atiku/

Manchester United caretaker manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that his side will be without defender, Chris Smalling when they tackle Bournemouth in the Premier League fixture at Old Trafford on Sunday evening. According to Solskjaer, Smalling has a sore foot and will be unavailable until next year. He also said that the likes of Anthony Martial, Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku could be back for the Red Devils’ clash against Bournemouth. Martial missed United’s last game on Wednesday against Huddersfield Town because of sickness, while Sanchez has not played for United in over a month due to a hamstring injury and Lukaku has missed both of Solskjaer’s games but is not understood to be injured. “We’ve not had a lot of training,” Solskjaer was quoted by Manchester Evening News as saying on Friday: “So we had yesterday off, today’s the first day back. Romelu, Anthony and Alexis were light, light yesterday so hopefully they can join part of the training today and let’s see how they come through. “Marcos and Scott look like they can take part very soon, so the situation is looking better. Smalling’s got a sore foot so I don’t think we’ll see him until the New Year, maybe not even before Spurs, probably, around about that time. But you never know.” http://mcebiscoo.com/2018/12/28/epl-solskjaer-confirms-one-man-united-player-miss-bournemouth-clash-gives-update-three-others/
