Gen Adekunle, one of the most celebrated military commanders of his generation – Jonathan

on September 13, 2014 / in News 7:44 pm / Comments

President Goodluck Jonathan has described ‘Black Scorpion’ Gen. Benjamin Adekunle as a very courageous leader, whose civil war heroics, easily made him one of the most celebrated military commanders of his generation.

In a statement by presidential spokesman, Reuben Abati, President Jonathan said that Adekunle will be honoured and remembered as a valiant soldier who served his fatherland exceptionally well at a very trying time in its history.

“President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan extends sincere commiserations to the family of late Brigadier-General Benjamin Adekunle who passed away earlier today.

“The President joins them and other Nigerians in mourning the very courageous soldier who achieved national fame during the Nigerian civil war for his gallant leadership of the 3rd Marine Commandoes in the successful effort to defend the unity and territorial integrity of the country.

“President Jonathan believes that General Adekunle’s civil war heroics, which made him easily one of the most celebrated military commanders of his generation, have ensured that he will always be honoured and remembered as a valiant soldier who served his fatherland exceptionally well at a very trying time in its history.

“As the Black Scorpion’s soul returns to the Almighty Creator, President Jonathan enjoins his family, friends, former military colleagues and all who mourn his passing to also give thanks to God for blessing the nation with fearless soldiers and patriots of his calibre who stand ready to lay down their lives for the peace, unity and progress of their country.

“President Jonathan prays that God Almighty will comfort the grieving family and associates of General Adekunle and grant his departed soul eternal rest.”

You are very funny

So if you are GEJ, you will abuse him when you have election at the corner

If I am GEJ, I will use this opportunity to say nice things about him in order to win the votes of Yorubas especially those gullible ones who have joined the North for a plate of vice-presidency despite the atrocities and disappointment their past leaders eg Afonja Awo Abiola have suffered in the hands of the North.

The black scorpion rescued Biafran children from the starvation which the Biafran elites like ojukwu and Achebe, were putting through when you bare in mind that ,the war was already lost within the first 12 months.
The black scorpion rescued the Niger delta from biafran terrorism.
From the killing civilians, subjugating and disgracing their leaders , taking their lands , changing the names of their geographical space into Igbo sounding ones , the black scorpion's effort was duly appreciated by the liberated. This greed all because of oil, power and wealth.
He retired from the military and lived a life of honour and dignity.that is unlike others who went ahead and destroyed what we fought for.
The nigerian state simply turned into what led the biafrans to want to seize the Niger delta in the first place .
An insatiable greedy ogre for oil and a covetous monster for other people's properties.
My hope is that his family would not allow the Nigerian army and all the corrupted institutions of governance anywhere near his funeral.
Colleagues at the war front ,yes
But definitely not the Nigerian army.
Substitute them with hunters and palace troops.
By the way ,no one cares whether the FG. Or any outsider honours him. Oyo will honour him.
And with time,we shall scrub off all those foreign sounding names of nobodies from all the monuments ,roads, bridges etc and replace them with the true heroes and individuals who have worked hard for the betterment of the odua nation.
A true soldiers leads from the front and not in an air - conditioned room in Abuja ,stealing his soldiers salary or selling weapons to terrorists.
He joins the likes of generalissimo ogendengbe in the ranks of true warriors.
His story shall be told in years to come.

FACT.
a soldier who turns and run instead of fighting, get a bullet in the back of his head right there .
He is a danger to his unit;even worse than the enemy .
That is the way of Oyo.

If it wasn't for Adekunle's heroism, Ijaws will be under an oppresive Biafra. If you look East of the Niger today, Ijaw is the dominant political group, thanks to Adekunle and the 3MCDO.

Jonathan has plenty to be thankful for and his homage to Adekunle is in order.

^^^I'd like to take you up on your assertions! No trying to wriggle and blag your way out of what you assert here as being true!!:

1) Can you mention the ethnicities that make up this Niger Delta you talk of?

2) Can you flesh out your claim a bit on Biafras terrorism in the Niger Delta? Who carried out said terrorism....when was it carried out......and who exactly were the victims?

3) You made mention of Igbos changing the names of Niger Deltan 'geographical space' into Igbo sounding ones; can you mention the ethnicities this was done to; what the original name/s was, and the new one/s Igbos forced on them; and also, kindly mention the language these people speak!?

4) On 'killing their civilians and subjugating/disgracing their leaders': Can you cite instances? Just so we can compare and contrast with what they've been through at the hands of your precious 'Nigeria'!

5) Finally, can you mention the lands Igbos took, and from whom? And while you're at it, maybe you could list the lands/resources of this Niger Delta you speak of that Igbos appropriated or sold off, so we can see how it stacks up against *Nigerias (* read Hausa/Fulani/Yoruba) rap-sheet!?

Better name is "Reuben Abati speaks for GEJ on Adekunle's death."

When Ojukwu died, Jonathan and his wife showed their remorse by themselves, likewise when that Ayo or whatever dude died, Jonathan spoke and showed remorse using his own mouth. When Adekunle died, Reuben Abati speaks for them grin

Anyway it is expected. He is after all the president of Nigeria and the election is coming up, of course the president has to show his remorse to Adekunle. Obviously, the fact he didn't say it himself implies clearly how he really feels.

The most important thing is that Adekunle' family members are not falling over themselves in abuja beging for medical bills and state's funeral financial assistance like the people east of Niger did, they even threw in a supposed widow/hoe for good measure.

If not for General Adekunle, GEJ could have never gone to school to earn his doctorate (though it's useless) and would have been a subjugated and second class biafran fisherman forced to surrender half of his daily catch to the pot-bellied Ibo oppressors. He has every reason to be grateful to the emancipator of ibo wives and children for rescuing him from imminent slavery and delivering the Nigeria that he leads today.

I said GEJ and his wife showed remorse by themselves. They didn't have someone else do so on their behalf unlike well, now on Adekunle. Recall that was the time you and your brethren made fun of his wife for saying "Ojukwu died but his manhood lives on." and also you and your brethren attacking GEJ for saying "Ojukwu lived and served with all his might." and also attacked him for giving Bianca a position in his administration in honor to Ojukwu.

GEJ wasn't in this video but they highlighted a statement he sent regarding Ojukwu. His wife was in the video, likewise Nnamdi Sambo.

So far, apart from Yoruba's, nobody else have paid tribute to Adekunle. I thought even the damn northerners he fought so hard for would pay some form of tribute yet ironically, nada. Now that it self is hilarious to say. I'm not trying to make myself feel important, just pointing out how someone is used and dumped like a mugu. Comical grin grin grin grin grin

Adekunle did not fight for Northerner....he defended Yorubaland against the coward Biafrans who missed the direction to North and instead went West.

The problem with you folks is that you are almost universally insular because of how you get your news and how your society is structured.you get a few mavericks here and there but there is a predictability that goes beyond stereotyping.Next time you meet an elderly person from ND,ask them what your folks did to them during the war.what about the people of southern cameroun who chose to leave Nigeria rather than being saddled with your folks' baggage.
You picked up on many point in my post.
I will not help .you either live with the hand -me -down market square gossip or read up on what others who were not emotionally involved in the conflict ,wrote.
But everything I wrote here are historical facts. In fact ,the first time I heard of the killings done by Biafran was from an elderly calabar woman who went through the ordeal .whole village burnt, men forcefully conscripted or killed if they refused.
I have done a lot of reading on this matter.
By the way ,what happened to the thousands of Nigerian POW captured by the biafrans?
War crimes cuts many ways ,you know.

There are reports from
missionaries
People who came on humanitarian visits
Global Security companies .
Mercenaries who fought for Biafra
Foreign Governments
Diplomatic dispatches
UN genocide investigators.
You can find them and read up.
Numerous books non-Nigerian books on this matter and many references to the war in publications .
Were war crimes committed ?
No war has ever being fought without war crimes being committed.
Who starved Biafran ?
Ojukwu and Biafran elites did. They turned women and children into propaganda prop .
