Strange Request: Woman Uses ‘holy Spirit’ As Collateral To Get Bank Loan. by Nobody: 10:24pm On Sep 15, 2014
On Friday, 12 September, there was a drama of
sorts at a micro-finance bank in one of the major
cities of Delta, when a certain middle-aged
woman approached a bank officials and requested
for a loan of N1.5 million.
After which, the official gave her a form to fill for
the loan facility. While filling the form, she wrote
the name of her 12-year-old son as surety, while
writing ‘Holy Spirit’ as collateral.
The bank official, apparently bemused by what the
loan-seeker wrote down, took the form to his
superiors to seek advice on the appropriate
course of action, after which the woman was
invited to the boss’s office.
Upon getting there, she was asked to explain why
she wrote ‘Holy Spirit’ as her collateral, and her
12- year- old son as surety.
She responded saying, “Don’t you know the Holy
Spirit or are you not a Christian? Do you want me
to write the name of ordinary mortal that will
disappoint the bank? No, the Holy Spirit is my
collateral because He does not lie, and He cannot
fail. So, please let me have the loan.”
After she was told that it was not possible to use
the ‘Holy spirit’ as collateral, she angrily told
them: “Since you don’t want to give me this loan,
you wait for me and see what the Holy Spirit will
do. You must give the loan to me.”
After her declaration, she reportedly stormed out
and walked away, only to return a couple of days
later, with the wife of the chairman of the board
of directors of the bank.
The wife of the chairman, reportedly came in and
angrily asked, “Where is that disrespectful officer
who refused to honour my request that this
woman be given a loan. This is indiscipline and
an act of insubordination. Bring him out; if you
can’t respect the wife of the chairman of the
bank’s board of directors, who else will you
respect?”
This absurd story was first reported by
