hello,

If u r on XP, u can use partition magic to create unallocated space where u will subsequently install Solaris OS. But if u r on VISTA, to install another OS get a lot of issues n d wahala dey frustration.
4 me I have windows XP n Solaris 10 on d same system, n I have oracle 10g running on both OS.

I had issues installing Solaris 10 on a partition, a loud screeching noise, which was why i switched to VB and successfully installed it on it with the same DVD. So i plan to run it first on Virtual Box before having a go again on a partioned drive. Also, do you have any idea why my system made those loud scary noise while i was installing? the noise did not seem to affect the installation process but had to stop it for fear of blowing up something!

I will assume that your system is primarily running on MS windows which has an NTFS file system. First you cannot install Solaris successfully on raw NTFS file system. You need to do the partitioning with a "Partition Magic Software". The software will help u not only to partition easily but to create unallocated disk
space devoid of any file system format per say. Your Solaris should successfully install within these unallocated disk space with ease.

now am totally sapped! successfully downloaded the Oracle 11g 2GB installation files today, extracted it, shut down the Solaris OS, feeling happy with myself, only for me to try restart later when i got home, , my OS kept rebooting.I have been online all day with no visible result.Any suggestion, apart from re-installing the OS that is, because i really want to recover the files and all the settings

Thanks man, was able to figure it out. Seems my boot archive did not have enough space to boot up. Had to delete some stuffs because the space allocated by th VirtualBox(7GB) is far lower than the virtual memory i allocated. Now am setting on another journey trying to clone the vdi disk into a bigger disk, Dont you just love IT,

i'm having problems Installing oracle 11g Release 2 on my Solaris 10 box
I've did a fresh install, manually laid out my disk slices and have one Interface configured during initial installation.
Also have all the packages added and Sudo Installed.
Envirrrronmental settings are also in place.
After copying the Oracle installation fies and Unzipping both files,
I change to the installation directory

/export/home/oracle/installation

-bash-3.2$ ./runInstaller
/export/home/oracle/installation/database/install/.oui: syntax error at line 1: `|' unexpected

from my output after executing runInstaller - (/export/home/oracle/installation/database/install/.oui: syntax error at line 1: `|' unexpected)
What do you think I'm missing.
