That's according to his agent Jorge Mendes, who revealed his client's staggering release clause in a recent interview with Spanish newspaper AS.

The Red Devils have been repeatedly linked with a move to re-sign the 29-year-old this summer, and several reports have suggested that Louis van Gaal is eager to add the Portugal star to his squad.

But Mendes has insisted that his client won't be moving back to Old Trafford, and claimed that United would have to shell out €1bn (£800m) if they want to re-sign the Madrid star.

He said: "In addition to being the best footballer in history, he is the greatest athlete of all time.
