DAN ANYIAM- Nigeria’s first indigenous coach

Dan Anyiam was the vice-captain of the team. He played in the left half-back position.

With just 10 caps, Anyiam was more prominent as a coach than as a player. He was captain for 11 years, spanning from 1949, when he led Nigeria against hosts Sierra Leone, to 1960, when he played his last against Ghana.

He represented Nigeria on 10 occasions and scored once. The memorable goal was in the October 30, 1954, Jalco Cup encounter against the then Gold Coast (now Ghana).

Hate to be the spoil sport but it was so obvious that Osondu was some sort of fraud.
Best player in the u-17 world cup at the age of 16 in 1987 but got invited to the green eagles camp in 1981 ostensibly at the age of 10 shocked
No wonder, In a complete football article by Segun Odegbami in 1988, while assessing the gains of Nigeria Football the previous year (1987), made the phrase 'if Philip Ziazia Osondu is under 17 then my grandfather is under 30 !!'.
(The bright spark of that article was when he talked about an emerging talent within the ranks of Shooting Stars who he suggested was good enough to bypass the Junior eagles and move straight to the seniors - his name ? Mutiu Adepoju. Less than a decade later, he was proved absolutely right !)

FRIDAY EKPO

Friday Ekpo was one of the most influential players in the domestic league in the late 80s and early 90s.The diminutive midfielder won plenty of plaudits from the fans and made headlines after each game. His skills made him one of the most-sought after players in the country. After playing in the 2-1 defeat of Kenya in the group stages, Ekpo did not play in the championship until the third-placed encounter against Cameroon. The midfielder scored the first goaland set up Rashidi Yekini for the winning goal to help the Eagles winbronze after beating the Indomitable Lions 2-1.

NDUKA UGBADE

As a youth player, fresh from St. Finbarrs College Akoka-Lagos, Ugbade was captain of the Nigeria U-16 male soccer team that won the1985FIFA U-16 World Championship. Four years later in the U-20 category, he was also part of Nigeria national under-20 football team at the1989 FIFA World Youth Championshipthat placed second and won silver medals in Saudi Arabia. Nigeria lost to Portugal in the final match, but Ugbade and his teammates were the toast of the day. After his immensely successful youth football career, Ugbade featured in the Nigerian national team for some years, but was plagued by injuries and poor form in the later years of his career which denied him of the opportunity of starring at the 1994 World Cup.
