ROSSIKE: Dude, the Turkish league was and is still a very lowly rated league compared to Spain, England, Germany, Italy and even France. Okocha was playing a 'show off' kind of game when he was at Fernabache. When he came to Bolton he became more matured and played with his teammates more often than he ever did, but it was already too late. I still repeat if Okocha was that good big clubs would have come for him. |

overrated or underestimated?....i'm not the fittest judge to pass the irrevocable verdict on papa jay....but all i know is that he's a million times better than a certain lethargic,drooling,glued-to-the-bench Nigerian Chelsea mildfielder......that said, mentioning jay's name in the same breath with ronaldinho, messi, zidane and other ballon d'or winners is a step[judgement] taken too far away.....and about the playmaker issue.....Jay jay,in my humble opinion,is not even better than juventus' midfield maestro PAUL POGBA.....argue the fact above and expose yourself on how irritatingly little you know about Serie A football... |

Re: Okocha Annoying Hype by abatically(m): 7:34pm On Oct 19, 2014 |
otipoju: Football is not just a game of skills, if it is then Okocha would have been the greatest player ever. Anybody remember Denilson of Brazil? Football is more of a team game than just raw skills. This is the reason why players like David Beckham and Paul Scholes (2 players who cannot dribble one player one on one) are highly rated than Okocha who can dribble the whole team. David Beckham has no dribbling skills, but there are 10 more players he can pass the ball to when he has the ball.. that is what makes him a better player. Ability to make the right decision at the right time to help his team. |

Afam4eva:Who said you should listen to me? The point was Pele's opinion is just his opinion and not necessarily correct just because he said so. Mourinho is the best manager in the world, but he had no professional career. Being a great player doesn't always make you a great coach. |

victorix: your right hes one of the best imagine jayjay imagine jayjay being rated in the days of players like seedorf, zidane, rivaldo, giggs, inzaggi, figo ,crespo, batistuta carlos schevchenko delima edgar davis... i wonder if c ronaldo or messi will be known if they had played in this era not to mention george best paul gascoigne rijkaard etc. |
Re: Okocha Annoying Hype by Obi1kenobi(m): 8:00pm On Oct 19, 2014 |
ROSSIKE:Of course Beckham is better than Okocha. He has not only won more team laurels, but individual ones as well and made his mark at the highest levels of the game. He was the best free-kick taker and the best crosser of the ball at this prime and his vision was outstanding and his workrate was phenomenal. Football isn't all about "skills". That's the garbage mentality that makes African teams so tactically naive on the global stage of the game. Paul Scholes is arguably the greatest central midfield playmaker of the Premier League era, but he didn't do step-overs or any fancy trickery. The likes of Xavi, Pirlo, Fabregas, David Silva etc don't waste their time on that sh.it as well. |

abatically:Judging a player by his trophies aint good enough. There're players that only play cameo roles for their country but none remember them. Austin Jay Jay Okocha is a living legend in football take it or leave it. Yes he does not win enough trophies cos unfortunately,he could not get a good club.yes twice he was nominated but was not chosen for those awards. Jay Jay is gifted so he's a great player and you cant take that away from him. Greatness have different. |
Re: Okocha Annoying Hype by Obi1kenobi(m): 8:06pm On Oct 19, 2014 |
abatically:Well said. I'm still laughing at saying Okocha was better than Beckham, and thinking the opinion actually makes sense. I can only conclude it's borne of ignorance. Scholes and Beckham don't perform any fancy tricks, but their understanding of the game and their passing range was phenomenal. Beckham declined fairly quickly around the time he fell out with Ferguson because of his celebrity life-style, but so many people either forget or are ignorant of how good he actually was in his late 90's to early 00's prime years. And I say that even as an Arsenal fan who has always hated Man U. |

toecyne:Is it your anonymity that makes you use this type of language? May God forgive you. As for the debate about the greatness or otherwise of Jay Jay Okocha, there is really no need to argue with each other. If not for the fact that Okocha never played for any of the 'big' clubs, there would have been no controversy about his place among the greatest footballers of all time. But because he didn't play for Madrid or Manchester United, people take the liberty of belittling his talents. Well, such people are entitled to their opinion. But I hope they will also allow me to hold my own opinion, which is that Augustine Azuka Okocha is probably the most prodigiously gifted footballer of all time. Instead of comparing him with any other player, I would rather thank God for having given Nigeria such a talented player and for having given me the opportunity to witness the amazing skills that Okocha so effortlessly displayed. |

otipoju:dude ur argument is seriously flawed, like u said in one of ur earlier post that pele is entitled to his opinion, I believe this is ur own opinion. But u sound as if u are trying to push it down everybody throat who has a different opinion. And I believe we can have a constructive argument without this unnecessary insult. Back to d topic, u said trophies won is ur standard for measuring greatness, let's take pedro of barca for example who has won lots of trophy with dem and playing for one of the best club. No true football fan will ever say pedro is more of a greater player dan okocha, infact its an insult to put both player name is d same sentence. What am tryin to say is that been great in football has alot involve and there is know way jay jay can ever been just an ordinary play. If he is ordinary, y is it we hvnt be able to find anybody to fill is boots in our national team for how long now? Incase u hv forgot what he is all abt try look for best of okocha and tell me how many ordinary play cn do what he does. Cheers |

Re: Okocha Annoying Hype by Nobody: 8:24pm On Oct 19, 2014 |
sarutobie: Okocha never lacked any hunger and drive. The 'big clubs' simply refused to table a decent offer for him. I'm not aware of any offer any of them made. One or two rumours in the papers and that was it. It's incredible. What special football knowledge did ALL the coaches in the 'top cliubs' have that the rest of the world cannot see, as to what their reason was for not signing Jay Jay? When he SHOULD have been signed was from Fenebahce, even though PSG came in with a record 24 million GBP for him - the highest signing on fee of any African up till that time, and a French record. So they KNEW he had the goods. |

If somebody is overhyped and you took out almost the whole day to try and buttress your points and convince us to the latter. And the dude is somewhere in his sofa lounging and popping champagne for some new millions coming in. Who is really stupid here and jobless? 10 pages for a supposed "overhyped" player!! Whewww!! Lord have mercy |
Re: Okocha Annoying Hype by Nobody: 8:46pm On Oct 19, 2014 |
abatically:I disagree. The Turkish league is not THAT far 'behind' the leagues you mentioned. And the quality of their league meant nothing to Okocha. When Fenebahche played Man U at Old Trafford, Jay Jay Okocha was the best player on the pitch by an ABSOLUTE MILE, leading to the English commentators wondering aloud what a player like this was doing in Fenebahche. They were openly saying he should be at AC Milan or Barcelona. And what you call Okocha's 'show off' kind of game is a GROSS INSULT to his massive talent. I've already shown that he was EFFECTIVE at Fenebahce (32 goals in 60 games is highly effective for a midfielder). He included great skill in his game, just as Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi do today (to the extent they can), AS YOU KISS THEIR NUTS IN ADMIRATION. For you it is one rule for Okocha, another rule for foreigners. If Okocha dribbles it's ''Oh Okocha is showing off''. If Messi dribbles it's ''wow, Messi is from another planet!'' Rubbish. 2 Likes |

chai chai OP! the thunder that is about to fire you is doing press up...where were you when German chancellor gave naija presido who came visiting their country, Okocha no 10 jersey sometime ago? perhaps you were on a mental sabatical. He is one of the only select few legendary players to walk the face of planet earth not only from Africa in case you dont know take it or leave it. even the great Dinho attest to the fact. 1 Like |

Okocha is no where near nigerian's g8est Player dt won zero trophies and zero individual acolade. Evn b4 he retired We question his commitment to d national team. Stats were so much against him. In football, so fa ure playing centralmidfield, wings, a PLAYMAKER, or a striker to be categorised as a great player d numbers must speak for u. Ronaidinho, messi, iniesta, xavi, pirlo, figo, snieder, gerrard, lampard, toure yaya, schwientiger, etc r all gr8 PLAYMAKER . okocha ws also a playmaker but he is never to be compared to those players. You might wanna argue dat its because he is an african dats y he nt so much recognised players like nwanko kanu won d ucl with ajax, is goal scoring record ws gr8, he played 4 very good clubs (ajax, arsenal intermillan), rash1idi yekini: he is still d Nigeria's all tym goalscorer, vctor ikpeba(d prince of monaco), Drogba:wat cn i say, one of d best players to comeout of africa. he ws playing 4 marselle b/4 his talent spotted by chelsea.Yaya toure:former asec mimosa plyer, plyed 4 barca and he is currently a top performer @manc now world clz. Samuel etoo: world class striker in his days played 4 Real mad., barca and chelsea. Dese r all world clz plyers, dat deir talent wz recognized by top teams inspite of been an african. |

NairaMode:Nope. I disagree. The niqqah' was a "God" that was intensely feared by every defence line. He was that one player that Could determine if his team won or lost. Once he wants to cut players. Destiny? Nobody can rescue him. Even if the ref. Blows for hlf time.the player go first. Chop am before he her whistle .That guy (to me) had the ability to decide how many goals he wanted to score in a match and he would do it even if he wanted to score ten. All of you'll open your mouth and say "haaaaa.its not possible" then I'll ask. Who is the defender or keeper that'll stop him from scoring the 10 ?? He has wasted the strongest defenders and even washed one of the finest goalies "khan" with all sort of soaps(why he never used his super powers? Is a question for the man to answer) Well! I don't know much about football analysis now but I'm gonna ask. Please .what makes an individual a great player ? Skills or trophies ? Is mikel to be rated higher than Jay my nigah ? Football now sef is just "gra gra" after okocha and ronaldinho .zidane. and *head bows* uncle DelimaRonaldo(the phenomenon) . There's really notin much left .than 22men grown men chasing one innocent leather ball like it owed them money #JustSaying. |
